Here's one of my favourite brief sections in any TWRP song. It comes after the chorus to connect the music into the following section.
Warning, it's v fun to play!
Basically, there's these 3 note shots that alternate with someone playing a cool fill. This section happens twice in the song. The first time around, the guitar plays 2 fills. The second time around there's 4 fills, one taken by each band member. We'll be looking at the first instance today.
The actual 3 note shots with the band are easy enough (8 - 6 - 8). I play the shots on the record with distortion, but the fills are on a clean sound, so live I usually just stick to the clean sound, which is what I've also done in this lesson.
The first fill takes place in the 8th position C minor pentatonic (see below). The main focus should be on keeping the notes rhythmically precise, and the notes being quick and choppy to give it a tight funky sound.
The second fill starts by playing an F11 into an F9 chord. If you prefer, you can just call these 'Prince chords'. After this, I move up to the 15th position (see below) and play C minor pentatonic (4th pentatonic position).
There's a lot of jumping around between different positions here, so this part can help acquaint you with hopping around from high to low positions in the pentatonic framework. When you're moving around the neck like this, it both sounds and looks very cool!
