Found Your Love (Chorus)

Chord time! Lots of chords too. I know you're going to love all of these chords. Check the TAB for the full list.

There are bigger and more complete versions of many of these chords, but in the context of the mix and the song it would have made the guitar sound too dense. So, what I did in this tune and in many others is to strip the chord down to only 3 or 4 strings, making it lighter and more manageable in the mix. Sometimes they may seem kind of random and out context without the bass notes, so it's important to understand this is just one piece of a larger puzzle.

This part can be a really fun way to work on your funk strumming. Notice that my right hand is doing wide motions but still not really hitting the lower pitched strings. This is accomplished by angling the pick correctly, something you can experiment with to find your sweet spot.

Also if you look at my left hand, you'll see that on many chord shapes, whichever fingers aren't being used on a particular shape will mute the lower strings (most often the 3rd finger). This way, if you do accidentally strum an extra string, it's not going to make any noise anyways.

Towards the end at measure 17 the guitar switches away from a rhythmic role and into a textural lead role, using octaves and 3rds. The main purpose of this is just to sound real pretty.

In the vid I'll play the part with the strumming, and then run through the chords one by one.

Have fun and good luck! Drop any questions down below.

"I know you're going to love all of these chords." Totally heard that in JP's voice.

Oh MAN, some of those chord combos at the end there have my creative juices flowing. A fair bit of my practice time lately has been just playing in the space, not even necessarily trying to write something, just trying to create sounds that make me happy--and I'm definitely seeing some possibilities here! :)

"The main purpose of this is just to sound real pretty." You can just go ahead and copy and paste this on all future posts.
