Tagami Village 60x40 Battlemap | VTT

Hey everyone, for the first time I've tried painting a massive 60x40 map which I hope you enjoy! However I have had some some issues, Including corruption of PDF files when creating them and for some reason the inability of my file optimizer to lower the size off the large 300dpi high resolution maps. Because of this I'm going to have to upload the maps to google drive instead of Patreon. you'll be able to download them there via the link below. Sorry for the inconvenience, in future I'd like to see if I can resolve these issues so I can do more mega maps!

After a weary day of travel, you arrive in the small farming village of Tagami. Children frolic around the town battling each other with short bamboo swords, while elders converse with older peasants hauling rice grain via wheelbarrows. Kindly folk, they invite you in for the night and feed you soup with rice, vegetables and fish. Soon after, you head to bed for some much-needed sleep.

Sometime after midnight a loud noise outside wakes you up. Investigating, you find three well-armed men standing over an elder who has been pushed to the ground. The armed men are demanding rice and dried goods, but the old man apologizes and tells them that the villagers have already given all they can spare last time they came. That, if they were to give any more, they would surely starve.

The largest of the armed men gives the elder an ultimatum. Either the village collects the necessary food for them in the next week, or his group will make them regret it.

If you engage the men they’ll lie to your face; claiming the army has requisitioned the food. But in actuality these men are deserters turned bandits—and only a small amount of the greater gang. If you fight, the men will attempt to flee and return to the others, or die in combat. If this happens, all the bandits will return in three days. But, if you allow the bandits to leave without conflict, they will only return in seven days, as earlier promised.

Once the bandits have either left peacefully, fled, or been killed, the elder will beg you to teach his people to fight like you do or—at the very least—help protect the village when the bandits return.

If you choose to help teach the villagers to fight, you may teach them any skills you know at base level, as well as grant one villager per three days one level in whatever class you are.

When the bandits return, depending on your efforts to reinforce the town and what you’ve taught the villagers will determine your success in driving away the deserters.

It's true they could try and track them down and make a pre-emptive attack and in that case, I'd make sure to leave hints as they get closer to the deserters camp that the group is to large to handle by themselves. Perhaps they could come across a deserter scout that they can subdue and after some punishment he'd inform them of the fact the group may be to large for them to defeat on their own. If they continue to the camp at that point it, it's their decision. You should want the players to choose to defeat either behind the palisade by themselves, or preferably to teach the townsfolk some combat skills. ;) ~ Luke

Probably a bit late to be pondering this, but...for a skilled party, three days seems a bit generous. What is stopping them from tracking down the bandit hideout and doing a pre-emptive attack?

Thanks Aikar! I think the eastern / asian themed maps are certainly not done enough which is why I'm trying to throw some in every now and then! I'll also be getting around to start doing some with interiors, It just takes a little longer as I still need to create some internal asian assets and do some messing around to get it all looking right. :) ~ Luke

Glad you like it Robert! I really like the larger maps too so if I can fix or minimize the issues that come along with them that would be great and give me a lot more freedom. I'm hoping when I pick up a new PC in the next few months that it'll run a lot better, my current rig is about 4-5 years old and while it was a top of the line computer back in the day it's really showing it's age and these massive maps can be a pain to paint because of lag and issues saving. I'm also planning to do the graveyard next month as a 60x40 epic variant. :) ~ Luke

Again a realy great map! And I love that you are making asian themed maps, I had been waiting for these for years. Do you think you might create some asian style indoor rooms in the future so we could open the buildings without breaking the asian flair? Regards

That is so exciting to have the larger maps! Last month I suggested the a graveyard for the same reason - while many of the smaller maps are beyond simply "awesome" in design, when players run off the board it is less than climactic. My thinking was that a map of a size such as would fit on a 4x8 table maybe with wiggle room (so a 4x6 or 48"x72" map (this one being nearly that size!) allows for a full-blown squad battle and not necessarily just the small proximity fist-fights... Larger mini's like dragons and giants need room to move so this larger map opens up a world of gameplay! THANK YOU!! (PS - i would still love a graveyard in the same size as this... lol.. just asking! :-)
