Progress update for 10/12/2023

Heya all! It has been far too long. And I mean that. I thought the last release of summer growth was only like, a few weeks ago and suddenly we are here. Mea Culpa. In this post I'll explain why, and what the progress has been like. 

Have the games been worked on?

Yes! Very simple put, a lot of work and writing has gone into both games. Both have new features and storylines that we want to get to you!


Then why so few posts

Why have there been so few posts lately? Two reasons. For one, my private life has been hectic; the bane of every content creator. Without going into detail, my job security has been plumeting due to circumstances out of my control, and for that reason it's hard to put focus where I want it to. 

Second reason, is that I like making posts when I got something to report. Saying 'writting has been done and a system has been added'  means little when that system isn't playable, or fun to interact with. So let's get into the topics of why I got less to report there every week;

Summer growth

Summer growth has been going well.  We are writting for the mid and end game, which has a lot of fun variables to it. Why is it going slower? Simple. When you got little to no story to keep in mind, you can just write. When you got an entire game already, you need to cross-reference and do a lot more work, fix bugs, whatever. 


Art

Art is always a reason for a good post! Why has there been so little art? Simple, Soviet has been busy. That's an external dependency, that I can't solve easily. But, I have agreed with him that in the coming weeks he can focus on these projects more!

Feudal Growth

Feudal growth has been going well! Each week the game has new systems, is more playable, the story is planned out... so why is it taking so long?! Simply put, we need to make an entirely new engine. Summer growth is a interactive novel; go here, display text. Feudal growth is a full on game with custom UI, custom mechanics, pathfinding, everything. So, it takes a lot more work to make, simple as that.

So what HAS been done!?

Enough beating around the bush! What has been done?! Well, let me go over it one by one. First of all; 

Summer Growth. 

In summer growth we're working on making the mid-and end game have more content. We're building up to a bodybuilding contest, and a challenge for the player; what if the potions become less effective, and the growth is slowed down?  Beyond that we're writting a ton of new content for Kris and Johan, including some hot fucking, resolving Emma's burndown, building a greenhouse with Elena... a lot is being written but tying it all together takes a lot of work!

Feudal Growth

Where to even begin! First of all, Feudal growth has a full tutorial now where the core mechanics are explained. It starts off with the princess moving to a region in her kingdom that is all ruled by petty lords, each using ancient privileges and agreements to rule as bandit kings. The player will take control of her on her mission to govern this region... if things actually went her way!

Since the last updated I added an economy system where I can manage the economy of the game, and the players can actually see what they are paying for, and how much. The game is meant to be medium intensity with management, with a lot of things actually managing themselves. The player sets the direction, and their agents do the work for them, while the player experiences some... unusual growth. 

A new city system has also been added, where the player actually has to learn what each city specializes in and how many resources they can get out of it. 

okay, but what are you doing with those resources and cities!? Managing them! The player has no direct control, but can send agents out to solve various issues such as goblin attacks, minotaurs rampaging or whatever you can imagine!

To wrap up

So as you can see, a lot has been done. The problem is that it's not stuff I can get to you all in a demo that's fun. This post will also have demo's of summer growth and Feudal growth attached to it, so you can play the new stuff that's in it. But, I'll have to ask for more patience for the development time. 

As for updates like this... Well, I'd love ideas for how I can keep you all in the loop. Over at my discord server I'm active daily, and everyone is welcome there! But the pace is at times inconsistent, and I don't always have new fun toys to show. I'd still like to thank you all for your patience, and hope it'll be worth it for each of you in the end!
