Attack On Titan 4x21 (80)

Hey Guys!

Welcome back. Are you ready for today's episode? It's AOT 4x21. Another crazy twist last episode that has our heads spinning and our theories going in circles.

WHOA. What a cliffhanger! What happens next? Can anyone reason with Eren?

This is so good.

No spoilers here—trust me. Let’s break it down step by step: 1. As a few people have already mentioned, the title of the very first episode of Attack on Titan is “To You, in 2000 Years.” Now we have an episode called “From You, 2,000 Years Ago.” Obviously, there’s a link between these two that ties directly into the relationship between Eren and Ymir... but I’ll let you all think about that yourselves haha. 2. About the “true” story: it’s basically what you saw. It’s no lie that Ymir built bridges, created roads, and cultivated farmland. She did all of this for King Fritz of the Eldian tribe. At the same time, it’s also true that she wiped out the Eldians’ enemies: the Marleyans. It’s interesting to notice the contrasts here: the Marleyans are shown in red, like Roman soldiers, while the Eldians are depicted more like a Nordic tribe. From that, we might assume Marley initially had the upper hand in the war they were fighting against the Eldian tribe... but once Ymir appeared, everything changed. Riding the wave of Ymir’s power, King Fritz began building the Eldian Empire. And when Ymir died (13 years after obtaining her powers), she passed the Titans’ power on to Maria, Rose, and Sina, and the rest is history: for 1,800 years, the Eldian Empire did exactly what the Marleyans claim it did. No one disputes that. 3. Still on Eldia’s history: if you rewatch episode 57, “That Day,” look at the scene where Grisha seems to be “interpreting” the Eldian Empire’s books sent by the Owl to the Restorationists, claiming that Eldia never committed the atrocities Marley accuses it of. Grice interrupts him: “That’s amazing, Grisha—you can already read this ancient language!” and Grisha admits he doesn’t actually know it; he only understands a little. Grice then asks, “So how do you know it’s true?” Grisha replies, “Isn’t it obvious? I HAVE FAITH IN OUR FOUNDER YMIR!” In other words, Grisha’s argument is based purely on faith, rather than something rational—like an actual translation of those books. Essentially, Grisha wanted a scapegoat to justify his hatred of the Marleyans, and he found it in those unrealistic beliefs rooted in what he saw in those texts. And there you have it—Attack on Titan really is that deep!

Jas

amazing episode!! one thing i wanted to mention: all of the eldians you saw in the Paths dimension really were there! it wasn’t just for visualization purposes; Eldians or Subjects of Ymir can be summoned to Paths anytime. You’ll see more of this in later episodes.
