November Episode Update and Favorite Holiday Recipes!

Hello!

The November Episode is still in the works and after chatting yesterday in the livestream, I think we're going to take a little break to be with family and then have the episode finished up and posted later next week :))

In the meantime, I thought it would be fun for us all to share some of our favorite recipes in preparation for Thanksgiving!

Above is a video I love so much, with a truly wonderful recipe! I use Myokos butter and add toasted pecans. I then broil it at the very end with Dandies marshmallows sprinkled over the top :D

If you have a favorite online recipe (or family recipe), please feel free to share in the comments and this way we can hopefully all try something new and amazing this week!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I can't wait to see you next!

-Christine

November Episode Update and Favorite Holiday Recipes!

Comments

I guess the November episode was the spider web ornament episode posted in December and then the December episode was the shrunken heads? I otherwise see no November episode and am very confused

Eris

I can't figure out what the November episode was either

Eris

Thanks for letting us know! My Patreon account was having some issues and I was worried we were missing out! 🖤

Stephanie D Eerkes

Hi Christine, Stephanie and Vicente! There are two Patreon Exclusive Episodes coming out this month. One for November and one for December :D The first was just posted (Novembers episode) and one is coming tomorrow (Decembers episode). Hope that clears it up :))

Christine McConnell

I was just thinking exactly the same....

Vicente Ben

I am wondering the same thing... I'm not seeing it either.

Stephanie D Eerkes

Did the November episode come out?

Christine Zittell

We had Thanksgiving with friends and then today, Saturday, we cooked our own for the two of us. Love having lots of leftovers for the week. Anyway, I made these sweet potatoes and oh my were they excellent! Easily my favorite part of the meal. I haven’t had them that good since I was a kid, I never learned how my mom made them. Thank you! 💖

Cariushka

My mom’s is where I usually spend the holidays and she always makes mashed sweet potatoes with brown sugar and cinnamon mixed and marshmallows on top. I wouldn’t touch it as a child but I am endlessly amused that they’re now one of my favorites. However, my mom knows that I don’t consider it a holiday unless she’s made her fruit salad. It’s essentially an ambrosia salad but this is a recipe passed down from I think my great grandmother to my grandma Bonnie and so on. It’s dumb simple cuz all she does is take a can of fruit salad, drain it, cut up an apple and banana or two, throw in some marshmallows and then cover it in cool whip but it’s one of the only traditions I’ve been able to keep alive in my family and my mom knows if she doesn’t make it, for some unknown reason she doesn’t trust me to, I’m going to be disappointed. And for all her faults, that’s the one disappointment she hates seeing. So there it is. For every family holiday.

Traci Harkins

So glad you decided to give yourself a little break. Family is very important.

Have a lovely thanksgiving everyone!! This is my go-to recipe for roasted potatoes -- as a bonus, it's both vegan and gluten free 😊 https://www.seriouseats.com/the-best-roast-potatoes-ever-recipe

Aw hello fellow sweet hyster-sister and happy Thanksgiving to you! *waves from across SoCal* Oh my goodness an emergency hysterectomy?! Dudeeeeeeeeee!! :( I would privately message this back to you, but I don't think we can do that on Patreon. Sorry, particularly because I'm longwinded weirdo lol. I'm so very sorry, and around the holidays too! How frightening and shocking that must have been for you in so many ways. Geez! That's a whole other enchilada I can't even fathom emotionally, mentally, physically, etc. I won't ask what the causation was out of respect for your privacy of course, but I can't even imagine how that must have felt (and still feels). Sending gentle holiday hugs <3 I hope for you that your recovery has been very smooth, that you had a trustworthy surgeon (and medical team), and that your life has been changed this past year in only positive ways since the surgery. <3 Last December I had an investigative abdominal lap on 12/21/23. No endo, and no cancer thank goodness, but I had a severe case of adeno which my surgeon could tell just by looking at it. It was so bad it was like I was 3 months prego my eggo all the time, that's how bad it was lol. Without knowing it we were sorta kinda holiday surgical twins! My heart goes out to you truly on all levels. My hyster in May was planned thankfully. My surgeon however was scarily hands off and she didn't give accurate info about a lot of important things. I've had ongoing issues ever since and complications. Now I'm seeing a new doc thankfully. Currently having fears about prolapse and or/cuff issues though because my PT therapist is concerned this week about that and, thus, has scared the actual Dickens out of me this week lol. ANYWHO! I hope your holiday season is bright, with no anxiety in sight-only peace and joy for you and yours :)

Jenny McKinsey

Hey Jenny! Fellow Hyster-Sister here! I had an emergency hysterectomy two days before last Christmas, so I can empathize with all the weird symptoms and big feelings that arise. I hope your recovery goes smoothly, and that you are taking care of your sweet heart.♥️

Erin DeWitt

Thank you so much! That's my precious Oliver, my soul cat, that I lost to cancer two years ago. My 🧡.

Lori Salvador

I've been making this harvest kale salad since ever, or since the recipe was first published forever ago. (: So good!! https://abeautifulmess.com/creamy-kale-harvest-salad/

Danielle Manuelito

Im not much of a cook and only know basic recipes, but just wanted to wish Christine (and family) and everyone here a Happy Thanksgiving!

We always visit a local Chinese restaurant with so many tables that getting a seat is easy. Usually we get the Peking duck, which is three courses in itself, but lately we’ve been ordering hot pot and a bunch of sides. The caramelized roasted eggplant is to die for!

Almost every year the last 20 years I have been making this cranberry chutney and almost everyone loves it. I always put it in re used fancy round preserve jars (I forget the brand), it lasts at least a few months in the fridge. The smell while cooking it is the best thing ever, pure autumn. Cranberry Chutney Ingredients: 1) 12 ounces fresh cranberries (1 bag) 2) 1 cup peeled, diced apple (about a medium size apple, I always use Honeycrisp, my fave apple) 3) 1 cup orange juice 4) 1/2 cup chopped dried apricots (about 9-10) 5) 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (I use 1/2 tsp dried if I don't have fresh) 6) 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 7) 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 8.) 3-4 tablespoons honey, to taste (I usually like it with a lot more than this), or vegan honey substitute Place the first 7 ingredients in a deep, heavy saucepan and bring to a simmer. Cook over low heat with the lid slightly ajar for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the liquid is mostly absorbed. Add honey to taste and simmer uncovered for another 5 to 10 minutes until thick. Let the chutney cool to room temperature, then store in a sterilized jar, tightly covered but not sealed. Refrigerate until needed. Before serving bring to room temperature.

So glad you decided to spend time with family! Kudos to the people on the live stream that supported that!

Winter panzanella has become a staple of our Friendsgiving table. We will sub boiled eggs in for the ham when we need to make it vegetarian. The leftovers keep well too so long as you store your croutons separately. https://food52.com/recipes/8799-winter-panzanella

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I make homemade noodles. We follow the 2-4-2 rule 2 cups flour, 4 Tbsp milk, 2 eggs. This makes your dough. You roll out thin. Then cut the noodles and let them dry. Then you cook them in turkey stock until they are like dumplings and gravy.

Emily Martin

Happy Thanksgiving from Australia! It's not something that we celebrate here. Enjoy your time off!

Wendy Armitage

You have a lovely Thanksgiving too Christine and Family 🥰

Linda Rodriguez

Aw thanks so much Lori! Much appreciated! Hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Also LOVE your precious little icon pic with your cute little kitty :) adorable!

Jenny McKinsey

I am german so we dont really celebrate Thanksgiving, but what comes to Mind as sorta "Thanksgiving-y" Is a pumpkin Quiche I make from time to time. Its basically pie-crust made of flour, Butter, cold water and a punch of Salt. And for the filling I cut down Hokkaido pumpkin and roast it in the Pan with some chopped onions until Tender. For spices I add Salt, Pepper, Nutmeg, some Ras El Handout powder (or simple Curry Power), some White Wine and pine-nuts. I let the Mixtur reduce a bit while the crust prebakes for 10 min and then Mix it with some eggs (or plant based substitute) and top it Off with some Parmesan, or something similat. Then bake for like 20-30 min at 180C in the oven. The Pumpkin-mixture also makes a great filling for home made Ravioli :)

Pyromite

I hope you have a speedy pain-free recovery 🙏. Happy Thanksgiving!

Homemade cranberry sauce- 1 bag of fresh cranberries, 1 cup of sugar, zest and juice from 1 orange. Heat over medium and stir until all the cranberries have popped (about 15 mins or so). Let it cool before putting in a container for storage. Super easy and tastes way better than canned!

Christine, thank you so much for your kind response! I got a little misty eyed to be honest. You seem like such a pocket person in real life because of how you are on here (I call precious/lovely people pocket people). I’ve been a fan of yours for many years, and have so delighted in seeing all of the beauty you put into the world. I hope you love these cupcakes! Deb Perelman, like you, is a goddess in all things baked goods. I’m sure you’ll make these beyond magical with your own special touches. Thank you so much for the well wishes-it means a lot. I’ve had some complications, challenges, and random weirdness (like oddly even memory issues) for the past 6 months and some things right now that are currently worrisome (cannot get in to see my gyn until December 12th even though my PF physical therapist wants me to see her stat <:/), but I know I’ll get through. Thanks for reminding me of the goodness in the world, Christine (I needed that today)! I’m glad people like you exist as well as your followers. Would love to find out if you liked the recipe or not-hope it’s a smash hit for Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving!

Jenny McKinsey

Ok, this one I have to try! I love all the recipes I've seen and this one in particular really has my name on it! Thank you so much for sharing Madalyn :D

Christine McConnell

Thank you so much Jenny!! This sounds incredible and I totally want to give it a try (I absolutely love pumpkin bread!) On another note, I hope your recovery has gone well. I know it's different for everyone, but I'm thinking of you.

Christine McConnell

Here's a recipe I got tons of compliments on...a sweet potato casserole from Martha Stewart (although Christine's recipe with the marshmallows sounds super good, too!)...https://www.marthastewart.com/348501/sweet-potato-casserole

Kiki Reef

I have fallen spectacularly off the planet lately and have missed this lovely group and Christine's beautiful content! If there are any hysterectomy sisters on here you know what I'm talking about. It's hard to have to remind myself that recovery is not a straight line, even months out. Hope everyone has had a beautiful Fall season! I can't wait to comb through the turkey day (or Tofurky day) recipe suggestions on here! I first discovered this recipe many moons ago through Smitten Kitchen, and I have fallen in love with Deb Perelman's recipes ever since. Pumpkin cupcakes. I personally love pumpkin cake and pumpkin bread better than pumpkin pie. If anyone falls in that camp or simply wants to mix up their Thanksgiving table enjoy! It will be love at first bite-I promise! I mean, maple cream cheese frosting-hello! I admittedly add a dash of sea salt and pumpkin pie spice to my frosting when I make it as well. I first made this when my husband I were dating 10 plus years ago when it was just the two of us and our Maltese doggie Angel for one Thanksgiving at home (I also made duck instead of turkey because I'm a certified weirdo). The cake was a particularly huge hit for us. I have a feeling that this recipe is fairly forgiving when tweaked to be vegan. I've also made this gf (I think) and I'm fairly certain I remember it was super amazing. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! : https://smittenkitchen.com/2008/11/pumpkin-cupcakes/

This is such a great idea to share recipes! So many good ones! I’ve made this the last couple years and everyone loved it. Can be made vegan as well with easy subs for butter and vegan puff pastry. In case this can’t be opened without an NY Times subscription I’ll try to paste in a comment as a gift so will be unlocked. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!! https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1020596-vegetarian-mushroom-wellington?smid=ck-recipe-iOS-share

You're welcome 🤗. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Give the fur babies a hug from me! I just love all of them 🧡.

Miyoko has a recipe for making a whole vegan turkey (with crispy skin!). The charming video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6kHOxR4bDY

It's not vegan, but vegetarian. It's from a chef cookbook from the South (US). It's basically au gratin potatoes but better. Carrots and parsnips with truffle butter added. So, (1) thinly slice half of an onion. Then, sautee with about 3 tablespoons of truffle butter until translucent. (2) while onion is cooking, peel and slice 1/4" thick on the bias 3 large carrots, 3 large parsnips and 1 large russet potato (3) add 2 cups heavy cream, adding a salt, pepper, and freshly grated nutmeg to taste. (4) Once cream is simmering, fold in sliced veggies and cook for about 10 minutes (4) transfer contents to baking dish buttered with the truffle butter, and bake at 350 until golden brown on top. About 40 mins? Depends. I just watch it until it looks right. And omg, it's so good. No cheese in this version. You can also add fresh thyme. I make my own truffle butter just mixing in some good truffle oil to room temp butter and then I just wrap it in saran wrap into a log and put it back in the fridge.

Alexia Wilson

Those look amazing!! Thank you, I'll 100% be trying this :D

I'm not a big fan of thanksgiving food, BUT I do make this hard apple cider sangria and everyone finishes it no matter how much I make: https://www.freutcake.com/in-the-kitchen/drinks-anyone/sparkling-fall-hard-apple-cider-sangria/

Happy thanksgiving, Christine! 🧡🧡❤️💛

I am so glad you are going to have some family time. It's important! And we can wait a little for a new video. The first seasonal recipe that comes to mind is this one. It's sweet, hot, and creamy, perfect for curling up by the fire with a book, some cookies, and a couple of cats. Can be made with plant-based milk & butter and maple syrup or agave instead of honey. https://missminamurray.com/2022/12/20/in-the-kitchen-hot-spiced-milk-1948/

Mina Murray

My Mom makes something similar but with apples in addition. Delicious

Rebecca Phelps

Glad to see you taking a break for the holiday! My family is of Italian descent, so we always make gnocchi for Thanksgiving dinner!
