I lived with my dad and his girlfriend for a while. She had an old cuckoo clock in her creepy library. My bedroom was on the other side of the wall from that clock. Every hour that dam clock would go off cuckoo cuckoo...... I hid the key that you had to use to wind it. He found it! I think the ghosts put it back. I was sleeping so peacefully then heard the clock go off again. I love clocks have a few old ones that are silent....lol

You gave me the courage to repair my late grandmother’s clocks. When she passed, she had over 200 clocks in her home. Her home sounded like rain from all the ticking. And when they all chimed it was an Orchestra of bells and cuckoos. I have clocks from 1700s- 1940. I got one clock that was made in Hungary circa 1900 working yesterday. And I bought a non working grandmother clock this week for $60 because now I have the confidence to get it up and running. Thank you for this video! You’ve given me the opportunity to restore my grandmother’s presence in my home .

Wow!! This is the best video you've done so far - I've always been interested in clocks but never got an antique one for myself because I never would have known how to fix it. Now I might have to buy one and give it a go. Seriously amazing work, I love seeing it Christine! Btw, your cats snoring over the chimes at the end cracked me up😹😹

I have one of those big old clocks as well! Well, we call it big old clock. Because it's big...and old. From around the 1820s. Mine has a painting of a ship on it, though. I do not think it is original, though. I love with you did with the gold paint on the glass with yours! I love that old paper on the interior. It's super beautiful the way you did it and brings the focus onto the gorgeous clock itself. I wouldn't paint anything further on it. It's perfect the way you have it now!

I also really love antique clocks. I have one mantle clock that I inherited from my grandparents and a grandfather clock that I bought second hand, I had to hire a repairman to come to my house to get it going. Now it works perfectly and I have to wind it once a week. My house isn’t really big enough to have a lot of clocks that chime.

You may need to adjust the pendulum. It took a while for me to get mine to the right length. From what I understand, it's always going to be off 1-5 minutes so don't expect perfection.
http://www.theoldclockworks.com/service/how-to-regulate-the-time-of-your-clock/
Your pendulum may not look exactly like this, but it should have some way to adjust the length.

My stepdad had a clock repair shop. I worked for him fixing and cleaning clocks for a while. I had to take the clock apart sometimes, replace broken pieces and put it all back together. The spring was always so scary to put back on! Clock repair is a lovely, but dying art. Love my clocks I was able to get having my pick of the ones nobody ever picked up!

Love it! This has definitely reinvigorated my desire to buy an Art Deco clock, especially if I can save money by (hopefully) fixing it myself.
Would really love if you had a continually updating text-based master tool list -- tool, brand, and product/version number, possibly grouped by all-around tools and specific taskers, updated with each new project? Would be a great help to avoid searching comment threads, and searching for the tools outside the US.

I love old clocks so much! The way they work is just so fascinating. I always have to stop and admire them when I find one in an antique shop; but I think you've given me the inspiration that I need to pick one up and get it working again! Would you ever consider doing a video on restoring old sewing machines Christine? I have a Singer treadle machine from the late 40's/early 50's that I restored and use all the time (the only sewing machine I need, it can do anything!) and I would be absolutely over the moon to see you work on one from the early 1900's...or even older! They are incredible machines :D Thanks for the amazing videos as usual xo

When I was a child we had a cuckoo clock that looked nearly identical to the one in your video. I don't know if it was made in Germany like yours or not, but my step-dad was German so it would not surprise me if it was! Sadly it got destroyed during one of our many moves in my teenage years. I can also attest that if the chain came loose it was a real pain to get working again. It also sometimes got knotted up and that wasn't much fun to fix either.

I thoroughly enjoy all of the extra images (the kitties, the antique images, etc.) in the video. Professor Poof adds a lot of character to the videos and makes me smile every time. I also appreciated the glimpses into how you use Photoshop.
How do you create the faux antique image photographs i.e., take modern images and turn them into antique photographs with period hair and clothing?
Thank you for sharing your art, I really enjoy your unique creativity and style. You've inspired me to jump back into creating art.

I loved this episode. As cute as your outfit in it was, I imagined you in one of your long, Victorian dresses (like the one in your portrait in the end!) working in a clock shop. Maybe Mystic Clock Shop? :) Then, of course, you became a Time Mistress able to affect the universe through your very specific tinkering and repairs. I knew you couldn't resist going that extra, artistic step and the Photoshop and the painting gold on the glass was wonderful. Nice to see your captive so prominently featured and his new music is wonderful. Was the ticking part of the music or truly all those clocks ticking around you? I also like seeing all the animals, especially sweet Archimedes who is so white and fluffy now. Nap baby. Thank you for another great episode!

What a great episode! I’ve been wanting an old clock, but it just never happened. This has reignited my interest in acquiring one. The gold foil on the first clock looked amazing. Is there a benefit to using the gold foil as opposed to a gold paint? Or is it more for aesthetic?

That was so fun! I’m such a nerd about trivia and random information so I loved learning about your clocks! Now I want to do some more research on clocks, what makes them different, etc...Thank you for the educational opportunity!
Also, let’s talk about how your kitties love to steal the show! I love how they all come out when you’re working and get nosy! That Professor Pouf gets me every time! ❤️

This is so cool. My grandfather was a clocksmith and I grew up listening to the sounds of ticking clocks, chimes, and cuckoos. How very nostalgic this was for me!

This was a super delightful episode -- thank you, Christine! I especially enjoyed the soundtrack accompanying this episode -- it hit the right mechanical, chime-like, musicality that was perfect for clock restoration! You and your "captive" are a wonderful team! P.S. the cat snores also made this episode particularly wonderful

To add a little more authentic look to the clock glass replacement......you might use old period glass that has flaws for character. Easily found at antique shops.

First of all, I loved this episode. I love antiques and the old clock (especially old pocket watchs) and it'll be very usefull since I've received from my grand-parents a very old clock when they moved. So thanks for that. Weird timing because I myself have been getting into clocks lately. Just bought my first wall weight clock from the 60’s that we go working. Love the chimes. If you love fixing broken stuff, you should watch “The Repair Shop” on Netflix. It’s this cute little cottage in England with all these different trades people who fix broken antiques and heirlooms. It’s perfect for you.

Thank you for another wonderful piece! Clocks are like family members as they all have their own personalities. I am about to embark on painting the glass on my kitchen clock and this video is so 'timely'. The one in my care is a Seth Thomas metal series #2. I found several rub-ons that you can buy to put on the glass but none of them match the original....so I'm going to attempt creating my own. Thank you SO much once again for sharing yours and your captive's talents. Truly an inspiration!

Thank you so much Christine. I have a cuckoo and kitchen table clock that I have had serviced in California and when we moved to Washington they stopped working. I've never had the confidence to go inside them which is usually not me as I am an artist too. But with your tutorial on these it really helps me feel better about it. They are a piece of history and I feel confident now that I can get in there and help them work again. The key is to take your time and enter their world, not force yours on them. These pieces are alive. I also love the idea of adding a service note as well as personal history which both of mine have. Thank you! Sufi

This came at a perfect time. Before my Dad passed he never taught us how to look after his clock collection. They all have just stopped working. Now I can get them back into working order! THANK YOU!!!

I can’t wait to watch this later this morning! I have a beautiful Victorian mantle clock I’ve been wanting to fix for ages since I bought it. I hope at some point you’re able to do a Victorian lampshade DIY! Really want to get back into learning some new skills this year 😁

I love you sense of humor :) Creative’s carpets and work surfaces are always forgiven by fellow creatives. We get it.
