Idea's for the giveaway :D
Added 2019-10-07 17:31:59 +0000 UTCSo for a giveaway to be legal in California, it's required to be won by a skill and not chance. Here are a couple options for how we can deal with this in the future :D I'll use the option with the most votes for this next one, but am always up for trying something different :D
Honestly, I like a drawing the most because it's super fair and there's no hurt feelings, but what can you do? :P If you don't care for any of these options and have an idea for something I haven't thought of, please leave me your ideas in the comments :)))
On a side note, I am having SO MUCH fun with making these videos and thank you so much for being a part of this :D I can't wait for you to see what I'm up to at the moment!

2020-04-23 08:56:07 +0000 UTCThis post is an older one, but with it being spring would you do a video on spooky/horror gardening? Please and thank you!

2020-04-11 01:15:36 +0000 UTCI feel like an option where people can simply enter their name, comment on a post and then the winner is draw from those that comment would work. Give people like a week to post a comment.

2020-03-03 19:13:10 +0000 UTCI like option 1 and 2 because people who aren't skilled at art should still get a chance to win! (Even though it would be great to do that option since I'm an artist lol) I live in Canada though—am I still eligible to enter?
Alex
2019-11-02 18:15:27 +0000 UTCHello Cherylynne! Honestly, I love your idea SO MUCH, I'm double checking with Patreon to make sure it works and then will be using it, if they give me the go ahead!! Thank you so much for this suggestion!

2019-10-25 15:31:24 +0000 UTCUnfortunately I'm not artistically gifted and I'm a beginner on everything I do. Sewing, sculpting, baking, and cross stitch. I also work often since I work at a specialists office and can't get on whenever.. this stinks but best of luck to whomever can fight in these options! that really is a breathtaking piece. It matches my house really well lol.. bummer.

2019-10-24 20:44:02 +0000 UTCI think you should do a contest where your patreons will have a chance to show off their skills and then fellow patreons vote for the best one or you select your favorite. For example; you made spiders in your last episode. Have those that want to participate build their own creation using your instructions or using yours as an example. Then we send you pictures or post a public picture for voting or you select your favorites and then we vote or you pick the winner. Whew. Hope that makes sense lol

2019-10-21 18:48:37 +0000 UTCA lot of people who do giveaways that include California ask a super easy "trivia" question (e.g. "what is the word of the day") that anyone who [listened to the podcast, saw the blog post, opened the email, etc.] could answer, and then do a drawing from all who answered correctly. I see those all the time so maybe that works as "winning by skill"?

2019-10-20 02:58:10 +0000 UTCI’m not sure what would be the best solution. I’m curious if a randomized generator would pass the law or not. My only issue with the creative options is that it does benefit those who are naturally inclined to be creative. Not everyone who watches can come up with unique ideas or create anything close to the level you do which means the winners would always come from only a small portion of patreons. I consider myself pretty creative and handy and even I wouldn’t be confident enough to submit my works. I think the trivia idea might work if it’s available for maybe 48 hours and those who get it right can be submitted to random generator? That way “pure chance” has been removed (since they proved a skill) but it’s not limited to those in a certain time zone or with a certain level of creative skill. That’s the best I can come up with from my small amount of the law.
Riley Slater
2019-10-18 02:58:36 +0000 UTCSo maybe it's coming from a family of Jewish lawyers that makes me so found of loopholes, but is it possible to do something that shows our "skill"- such as we all submit artwork that's all deemed as skillful, or answer a quiz (allowing us to Google answers), and then we're all qualified as "skilled" under Cali law and then you can resume with a drawing of all your "skilled" fans?
Shoshana Portnoy
2019-10-17 18:45:33 +0000 UTCI didnt choose one of these options. I've read a lot of the comments here and really liked the idea of either just choosing a random patron to "gift" it to off camera on your own time OR a "guess how much of" type contest where closest to the actual number wins, this could be anything from how much of a certain material you used in the video, how many hours it took to create, or something different like how many candies/marbles/fake spiders etc are in this jar. At the end of the day we are here for you and the wonderful creations you come up with. I feel like the amount of time and energy it would take to judge other people's creations or ideas would eventually be very daunting for you given the number of patrons you have. Whatever happens thank you for always making me feel inspired :)

2019-10-17 17:08:31 +0000 UTCI would love to see a recreation of the plant from the movie Little Shop of Horror!

2019-10-17 03:39:01 +0000 UTCcan it be called a raffle instead of giveaway? then you can pick from a hat so to speak :)

2019-10-17 02:41:39 +0000 UTCLike many others here, I can’t always log in Live Stream. As for ideas, I’m here for your inspiration as my talent is limited. I would love to win one of your creations, but have little chance with any of these options. Not one to like stating a problem without a solution (or suggestion), what about a naming contest. Whether it be a new creation, pet, plant, skit, etc? Introduce the thing to be named at the end of your current video. You choose the top 5 and people vote up to the next video when you would announce the winner. It would give everyone time to give an answer, doesn’t really require artistic talent and doesn’t pressure you to make a choice (except the top 5 and you could have hubby do that if you wanted to).
Cherylynne Gordon
2019-10-16 04:35:49 +0000 UTCThat's an interesting idea. Then it's not a raffle, it's just sending a gift to a member.
jessica franzen
2019-10-16 03:24:07 +0000 UTCI wish there was a different way to handle this. I would love to have a chance to win but I can't participate at a certain time to answer a question nor can I participate by art work since my creative abilities are extremely lacking. That being said, your videos inspire me to recreate some of your projects (especially those spiders, just bought some fake fur). So, in the end, I don't want to put more stress and pressure on you. I truly enjoy your videos. But would love to have the chance to own a creation of yours.
jessica franzen
2019-10-16 03:22:47 +0000 UTCI like the art contest idea... It inspires us to use our own creativity to make and just thinking that you saw a painting/sculpture/poem/crocheted sweater/baked good that I made would be reason enough to make it. It would add even more inspiration to what you already give me. Life's not fair. If it were, there wouldn't be such talented people that stand out above the rest, like you. And that's okay.
Alexa Smith
2019-10-16 01:58:06 +0000 UTCSimilar to what many people have already suggested, I think perhaps you should have a trivia question/quiz that all patrons have the chance to answer and the first person to submit the correct answer or get 100% wins the prize. I generally cannot attend the livestreams when they're live, I watch them after the fact. I'm also not very artistically inclined nor do I have the brilliantly creative ideas that you do for your projects, but I'd still love a chance to own one of your beautiful creations!
Caitlin McMahon
2019-10-14 02:31:53 +0000 UTCI kind of had an idea for one of your next projects. I was wondering if you would ever try your hand out in baking one of your previous creations or new ones but make them vegan. It would be interesting to know if its possible since baking vegan can be a little different.

2019-10-13 23:44:06 +0000 UTCI LOVE THE ART CONTEST IDEA!!!
Kyle
2019-10-13 02:41:07 +0000 UTCI like this as well since some of us lagged and we’re behind so there was no way to be exactly fair. But the law stuff is tricky. I enjoyed the name from a bowl. I don’t want to compete with you all lol
Jessica Woods
2019-10-12 23:05:30 +0000 UTCI think a fairer approach to the trivia question would be going with something more asynchronous. Something like a Google form with x number of questions that we then have a certain number of hours to submit (24? 48?) and then if more than one person gets 100% you can use a random number generator to pick the winner. That might make it easier for you to manage too since it automates the hard part of handling large numbers of entries.
Janeice
2019-10-11 15:16:26 +0000 UTCAll the options, except the last one, give me anxiety! And the last one makes me sad, but it's probably the easiest option. I hope another fairer (and legal) way reveals itself!
Rachel Austin
2019-10-11 10:47:30 +0000 UTCHave you also thought about a raffle? You could sell raffle tickets to us for like 0.50 cents to a dollar and then draw a raffle ticket. Whatever money you receive can be used to cover the cost of shipping the item and help fund your future projects. Just an idea 💋💋
Bettie von Sweetz
2019-10-11 04:07:43 +0000 UTCWhat if you do an electronic raffle? Kahoots works if you want to do a raffle or you can do multiple questions and they will calculate the fastest to answer.
Kristina pierce
2019-10-10 20:37:13 +0000 UTCYeah. I think it's reached a silly point and way too much thinking/effort. If you want to give a gift, you should be able to give a gift. I'm sure there's a loop hole in there LOL. We're here to have a good time and see her amazing talents! Doing it privately gives Christine the satisfaction of wanting to give and it gives the receiver a nice/amazing surprise and no one else needs to get involved on such a large scale. :)) She can always make the announcement the following month who received it, if she so chooses.

2019-10-10 20:34:57 +0000 UTCWhat if you got someone from out of state to do the drawing for you?
Ann Bromley
2019-10-10 15:35:05 +0000 UTCFor the giveaway to be legal in California it has be won by skill though? Otherwise I agree, drawing the name out of a hat would just be way easier lol. :)
E. M
2019-10-10 11:12:11 +0000 UTCLike so many others, I adore your work and the chance to see what you're doing (and to help support you through Patreon), and the chance of winning is just the cherry on the frosting on the very creepy cake. It seems that most of the options you suggested would be more work for you, or stressful for you or for your admirers, or time-consuming. What do you think about a simple "skill" contest of your admirers guessing the number of beans (or spiders?) in a jar, or something similar to that? People could submit their guesses over a few days or a week, so it would be more fair, and those who either are not creative or who just don't have the time to take away from their own projects wouldn't lose out on a chance to own something made by you. Otherwise, I, like some of the other commenters, think your just giving a true gift to whoever you choose -- if that can be legally distinguished from a "giveaway" gift -- is a lovely idea. I think I can speak for at least some others when I say that it makes me happy to know that someone is getting something they'll always treasure, even if that someone isn't me.
V Godet
2019-10-10 01:35:33 +0000 UTCThe first option detracts from your ideas. The trivia question detracts from the live Q&A in terms of time, the art contest is extremely unfair to those who can not be artistic and corners people into having to be so, and stopping it altogether is pointless if you don't want to. However, having said all that, even giving ideas is not so great because we look to you for that. If someone/or many want to, that's okay and you're interested in some ideas, fine, but to do so as a contingency to win, doesn't seem to right to the whole concept of why we're here. I'm interested in what's in your creative mind, not necessarily someone else's every month. I'm sure there's lots of great ideas, and once in a while it's okay, but overall we're here for you because we adore you. So what's the solution, well again, let's remember we're here because every month you already give us a gift with your creative mind and craft/art. I do think it's okay to randomly pick out of a hat unbeknownst to us and just mail it out. Someone will be so happy. Thrilled. It's not like we know the person who's going to be receiving it even when it's mentioned live. Plus it makes it ultra fair to EVERYONE because a lot of people can't watch the live Q&A for one reason or another. It's fun to know right away, but look at the drama it's creating and you don't need to waste precious time worrying about this. Anyone and Everyone will love the gesture and the art piece. Good Luck!

2019-10-10 00:55:27 +0000 UTCI am not voting. I say choose someone on your own time and not on camera and just send it to them. Think of how exciting that would be!
Jess
2019-10-10 00:11:49 +0000 UTCI like the trivia bit except that I'm over in the UK so getting timing that works on both sides of the great big puddle is tricky I suspect :)

2019-10-09 21:01:38 +0000 UTChow does one suggest an idea? if that is chosen??
melissa
2019-10-09 20:22:05 +0000 UTCI think she has over 3,000 Patreons, so even something small would be time consuming :)
Jennifer Lewis
2019-10-09 12:28:31 +0000 UTCI'm no good at art so that option is no good. I like the idea of trivia. For those of us who are poor.
Paula Osborne
2019-10-09 10:53:35 +0000 UTCCan every tier submit an idea or how would you do that? You would have to read a lot of ideas. I'm not sure, if this is fair for all
Alexa Z.
2019-10-09 10:48:03 +0000 UTCThat’s why I was thinking if she did an art contest then she can randomly draw a name of anyone that entered! That way no matter the skill set anyone that at least tried has a chance!
Sara Estridge
2019-10-09 02:46:19 +0000 UTCI’m not sure if this helps but what if you did an art contest and everyone who submits is eligible. Then you could randomly draw a name of anyone who participated. That way no matter the skill set, as long as everyone tries their hand at something artful, they have a chance! That way you can turn it back into a drawing (but weasel your way around the legalities)!
Sara Estridge
2019-10-09 02:43:04 +0000 UTCAlso a way to make it fair, have an exclusion period where if you were top 5 (or just won!) you can't win again for x amount of months. That way you won't have the same people sweeping the comp every time.
Emma Bednall
2019-10-08 21:58:37 +0000 UTCHow about for an art contest, top 5 of whoever did the previous months "easy" craft? Like, execution, concept etc. That way you can see how people do with your own creations and ideas in their own unique way!
Emma Bednall
2019-10-08 21:57:06 +0000 UTCI recommend doing an online auction to continue supporting you and/or a nonprofit group.
Mina Hernandez
2019-10-08 21:18:58 +0000 UTCfor option two only certain tiers would be eligible?
Allison
2019-10-08 20:44:45 +0000 UTCMaybe the “skill” can be choosing a number between 1-1000 or whatever. As close to a raffle as you can get. Give those who want to participate a week to answer and you can only guess once. And if a couple people choose the winning number, have those people choose a number again. Easy peasy 😀
Camie
2019-10-08 20:27:31 +0000 UTCThe best part of following you is seeing the amazing creations that come from your mind! If you let others choose a craft or project for you, it's not as fun as some of the things that you think up. Don't worry too much about giveaways, they will take up a lot of your time. I have read in another comment that you could give something away privately based on whatever parameters you privately wish. . . At the end of the day, these are you creations and works of art. These are the things YOU area making, don't worry about being fair to all of us. You have reason for giving it to whichever person you may choose and for any reason. :) We all support your art and creativity and are just thankful to be involved and able to watch more of your amazing creations. You inspire me. Thank you!
Jessica Irons
2019-10-08 17:35:30 +0000 UTCI'm really worried about you spending a ton of time choosing "the Best" idea for any type of giveaway - I'm afraid it could become a HUGE, overwhelming drain on your limited time resources. So I'm changing my vote to what Ray "BadServo" Taylor said. Just privately choose one person to "gift" it to. We all know how you're going to choose - just don't state that publicly - it's your choice, and handled off screen. Then every now and then you might have a contest just for fun, but honestly, the amount of time you will spend on judging will be too much to do on a regular basis. Save time wherever you can! We want this to be fun for you, too!
Aunt Debbie Halloween
2019-10-08 16:37:18 +0000 UTCProject idea: Make something small and not too time consuming so that each Member can have a l;little something from you , Like little spiders or eye balls.

2019-10-08 16:36:04 +0000 UTCIf the idea of the art contest could be expanded a bit to include art and writing, that would be neat! I think the folks who are artistically challenged (like me) could get a fair shake if they could also submit a poem, a short story, etc. I agree with not liking the “quickly answer a trivia question” route... many were experiencing lags in their stream and I think that would always happen. I live in the woods and my internet isn’t the fastest :) unless there is another way the trivia could be answered rather than in the livestream! some sort of survey link or something? I mean, I do love trivia... but honestly, it was worse seeing people complain and bicker about not getting a fair chance than knowing I wouldn’t win... it was so uncomfortable (as I’m sure it was for Christine too!). I don’t care if I never win anything, because the ideas and content and seeing you create magical things is prize enough alone, but the less bad vibes from elsewhere the better!
Natasha Rolnick
2019-10-08 16:19:55 +0000 UTCthat is a great idea actually. i mean trivia derived from being a fan. it could also include questions that have come from her instagram, twitter, facebook and book she wrote. that way its a skill. knowing your christine mcconnell trivia. its shameful self promotion but hey in this day and age lol
melissa
2019-10-08 16:01:44 +0000 UTCI like the idea of trivia questions but with Google these days it kind of changes things. What if the trivia question each week was derived from your last Q&A or YouTube video or even from your show? That would drive more traffic to your content. You could choose a question based on anything previously mentioned. Seriously, true fans would get it because we have watched over and over ;) ;)
Angela Pogue
2019-10-08 15:30:08 +0000 UTCI'm not a fan of any of the options. Maybe you should talk to a few other Youtubers or Pateron artists and see what they do for giveaways and contests. I think the only fair way is random chance, but there has to be some way around it for it to be legal in California.
Helena Ramirez-Watson
2019-10-08 13:27:02 +0000 UTCHi Christine ! We appreciate how hard you work and are so excited for every project! Attending livestream contest is almost impossible for people who aren't in your time zone.

2019-10-08 07:33:11 +0000 UTCYes, they are available later. But I would miss out on the price since I cant be the first one to answer a question 😕
Lisa Löfgren
2019-10-08 07:10:23 +0000 UTCI get so excited when you put up a new project! It truly means a lot of me! 😭 I really love your giveaways! Soo fun! You’re so clever and sweet! It’s an honor to be a patron!
Amber Arden
2019-10-08 06:31:20 +0000 UTCI would treasure a Christine McConnell original, but I don't like the stress of it all. The livestream was such a harrowing 15 minutes and then the debate over who won, etc. As a viewer it was very uncomfortable to watch and not worth tuning in. I'm interested in the art, your process, and getting to know the artist. And not a giveaway! Someone is going to win and a bunch of people are going to lose. There's no way to make it equitable and the whole thing is sort of disappointing for almost everyone watching. I say dump the giveaway thing and instead open an ETSY shop. You could sell everything from an inexpensive cookie to a couch!
Señor Scary
2019-10-08 06:14:55 +0000 UTCPeople that want to be considered could write a limerick about the object in the drawing. Rhyming is a pretty accessible skill. Or a Haiku. Or tombstone epitaphs. I like Christina's idea of guessing how much of something. This could be related to the project: how many pounds of frosting? How many feathers? Though this puts a burden on you to do some measuring/counting. You might also want to use a survey/form to collect the entries so you don't have to collate a bunch of comments.
Valerie Steinbrugge
2019-10-08 05:12:20 +0000 UTCAlthough I would love to do the art contest I think it would eliminate people that aren’t artisticly talented, so definitely awesome ideas for content benefit us all!
Julia
2019-10-08 02:45:16 +0000 UTCWould a skill testing question once a winner is drawn not satisfy the legal requirement? A simple math question usually works (or does where I live). (Sorry if this has already been answered!)

2019-10-08 02:40:48 +0000 UTCHi Christine! I love your videos! ! like the idea of the best idea. As a fellow cat mom myself, how cool would it be to build a cat haunted house and/or spooky cat tree? Thanks for taking the time to read my comment. Warmly, Stacey
Stacey
2019-10-08 02:28:51 +0000 UTCIn case they don't allow a drawing with a trivia question, I vote for the "Person that submits the best idea for my next project wins" But limit it to a one sentence description, 20 words or less, so that you don't end up drowning in descriptions. Announce that in the case of multiple people coming up with the same "best idea" you will pick the person who's sentence was the most descriptive/interesting/creative, but don't share what anyone submits in order to keep conflicts and hurt feelings from happening (i.e. "Hey - I think mine was more creatively written than his") It should be a blind contest.

2019-10-08 02:01:27 +0000 UTCI really would love for you to do the lighting, decorating, and photo-editing video that was an option last time. I’m DYING to get into this. No rush. Just when it rotates in among your projects!

2019-10-08 01:59:27 +0000 UTCI picked the second option, but maybe alternating between options for the giveaways would be best. Trivia one week, best idea the next, etc.

Blythe
2019-10-08 01:49:10 +0000 UTCAfter some research, giving a "gift" should be fine, whereas a "giveaway" can be problematic. Although the poll options are neat, we have to consider time zones and internet speeds for trivia questions. Art contests may be too time-consuming for some. And let's be honest, many of us will come up with similar project ideas. Loopholes for the win, please.
Kimmie Cat
2019-10-08 01:48:20 +0000 UTCA discussion of great cult horror film would be fun. I loved Waxworks and notice not many people had heard of it. I certainly hadn’t heard of Trick R Treat that you mentioned live and I can’t wait to watch!
Blythe
2019-10-08 01:46:26 +0000 UTCI think this is the best idea (Yay Brooke Cochran!) Christine could ask the question during the video, and then the person could answer by a given time - 24 hours or so - to make it fair for the out-of-country people!

2019-10-08 01:32:30 +0000 UTCI like the idea of best idea, or as someone else mentioned guessing the number of items in a jar or container. I love the idea of community art, but the drawback is that some may be disadvantaged from the start due to time, budget, and ability constraints.

2019-10-08 01:18:21 +0000 UTCI agree with a comment listed earlier. You should be able to "Gift" an item rather than offer it as a "Giveaway". Would that be a loophole in our California issue?
Kimmie Cat
2019-10-08 01:16:06 +0000 UTCI like the art idea! That was people can get a chance to get creative!
Rebecca Byington
2019-10-08 01:10:27 +0000 UTCI cannot draw to save my life, (like many other I assume), so I feel like that one is already unfair....
Melinda Collins
2019-10-08 01:09:38 +0000 UTCI voted for #4 because the shipping must cost you a fortune! It stresses me out 🙈
Erika
2019-10-08 01:09:34 +0000 UTCI think of these options the first is the only fairish one. I don't know the best plan I also loved the drawings the most. What about guess the games. Show us a cake or jar of spiders or something and ask for submissions. First to submit the right answer wins.
Jennifer Martin
2019-10-08 01:07:38 +0000 UTCNot crazy about the idea of an art contest. I think it puts part of the group (experienced crafters, makers, artists) at a huge advantage over other people. THAT BEING SAID! I love you, and your work, and your generosity in doing giveaways at all. You certainly don’t have to do that, and I know we’re all very grateful that you do. Just want as many people (no matter their skill set) to have the opportunity to win your amazing work! I really liked some of the ideas floated around previously... A trivia question that we have time to answer, and those that submit an answer then get put in a drawing to win? Maybe some kind of quiz (pop culture, techniques we learned from your videos, holiday lore) and whoever gets the most correct answers gets put in a drawing?
Ashley June Burgess
2019-10-08 00:55:14 +0000 UTCI like the artistic contest or best idea for a project. I'd also like to suggest perhaps a guess how many items are in a container. It should be legal to do because it is both a skill and chance contest. For example, in your video or the livestream have an item like say an apothecary jar filled with eyes and ask people to send in their best guess for how many are in the jar and the closest to the right answer gets to win the giveaway prize for that month. I would also suggest maybe changing up the way you decide to do the giveaway every month or so, that way it makes it interesting and perhaps gives as many people as possible a chance to participate and to win.
AsH
2019-10-08 00:53:14 +0000 UTC“Art contest” and “best idea”are my two favorites because we get to be creative as a community!

Justin Turrentine
2019-10-08 00:29:43 +0000 UTCI think that the bingo may still violate CA law unfortunately since we pay a monthly amount to Ms. McConnell's Pateron account.

2019-10-08 00:29:11 +0000 UTCHello Christine :) I think I’ve seen people in California post giveaways on Instagram where they say all you have to do to win is Follow, Like this post, and tag 3 friends. Perhaps you can do something like that in a Patreon post. Not sure what the exact rules and loopholes there are about it but I think it would give everyone a fair shot because I love making art so naturally I voted for the art option. Thanks again for trying so hard to accommodate everyone! You’re so sweet!
Melodie figueroa
2019-10-08 00:26:09 +0000 UTCWhile I think number 1 is probably pretty fair, I don't like the idea of us choosing your projects because I like seeing the things that your wonderful spooky mind comes up with, that's why I watch. I voted for art because as long as there isn't a restriction on the medium then it's something that everyone can get involved in and I think it would be super fun and it would be an amazing honour to ever get picked as one of your top 5 even if we didn't win the poll in the end 😁
Sarah Kane
2019-10-08 00:22:22 +0000 UTCI love your idea!
Katherine
2019-10-08 00:19:46 +0000 UTCAn art contest sounds like so much fun! But since some of us are pretty time-strapped maybe we could alternate the choice of winner with an art contest every 2 or 3 months and an idea for the next video as a choice of winner for now? The Bingo idea from Naiya McKizia sounds like so much fun. It would be so cute if we could do Golden girls themed Bingo!
Katherine
2019-10-08 00:18:58 +0000 UTCWell is it illegal in California to send friends a gift? I mean we could all qualify as friends, right? Do the drawing but not live. Send the "gift" to the "friend" you "pick". Take out that friends name from pot for the other times. That way same friend doesn't get gift twice.🤷 This way ppl in different time zones have a chance. Ppl that aren't artist or arent very creative still have a chance.
Jess

2019-10-07 23:44:48 +0000 UTCNot that I'm complaining at ALL, with humble intentions... I think the idea is to give back to the people who are patreons which allow her to do this work, not to just some person who watches one or two videos and wins over all us.
Jolee K Stark
2019-10-07 23:43:32 +0000 UTCI believe in Canada you have to answer a math question or trivia question to win something as well

Jolee K Stark
2019-10-07 23:37:01 +0000 UTCI think option 1 is by far the fairest way after a draw. Love this idea, and gets us being creative too!!
Niko Ketsilis
2019-10-07 23:35:30 +0000 UTCI like the poll option but also maybe one month do a short essay, a craft, or something other than just art. Some of us are not good artists. Someone else mentioned Bingo! I like this idea!

2019-10-07 23:16:12 +0000 UTCSeems there is always a potential loophole to get around "laws". Sounds like a good way around this one to me. Of course if I were Christine I'd ask for legal advice to be 100% sure!
Wednesday
2019-10-07 22:46:24 +0000 UTCAnother thought, is it possible to have someone in another state handle a raffle? Not sure how feasible that is, but I agree that a raffle is the fairest way!
Doug Schoettle
2019-10-07 22:44:48 +0000 UTCI like the idea of Thomas about an auction with the proceeds to charity
Doug Schoettle
2019-10-07 22:42:13 +0000 UTCGreat idea! Seems like it could be fair to all if say there's a 24 hour window to submit the video titles. That way all patrons worldwide would have an equal chance.

2019-10-07 22:40:39 +0000 UTCI like the idea of changing the medium/themes each time and Christine's idea of having different levels of skill win prizes.

2019-10-07 22:27:55 +0000 UTCIt seems like internet lag and time difference is a common issue to be considered.

2019-10-07 22:20:43 +0000 UTCMaybe a separate, less often contest? I would also love to see other inspired creations!

2019-10-07 22:19:25 +0000 UTCAgreed! Even if it isn't something that is done every month, perhaps there is an art contest every other month?

2019-10-07 22:15:58 +0000 UTCMost definitely! That is one of the main reasons I subscribed on Patreon, Christine's videos inspire so much creativity.

2019-10-07 22:08:25 +0000 UTCI think it would be fun (and fair) if we did BINGO to determine who wins the prize. You could upload bingo cards on patreon and then we can all download them and then you can say bingo numbers on your live stream and the first person to get bingo can message you their bingo card and they can get the prize. This way it's still fair and everyone has a chance to win. Or since some people have problems with the live stream you can just post the winning numbers here on patreon and then the winner can message you their card.
Naiya McKizia
2019-10-07 22:01:16 +0000 UTCI don't know how to draw and the live stream trivia question was a bomb for me because my stream was so delayed others were answering before I even saw you ask. I think you should ask the folks over at r/legaladvice on reddit and see what they say. There may be a way yet of doing this in an easy fair way that wont get all the Patrons in a tizzy.
Bree
2019-10-07 21:45:14 +0000 UTCFor the fan art idea is it restricted to a specific medium? I’m not good at drawing but I love working with clay and I’ve gotten into writing. Plus you could change it from month to month such as with a specific theme in mind. Also people that can sew could make creepy voodoo dolls or something. Art is such a broad category so I think if suggestions about what mediums can be used might encourage people that think they aren’t talented to try and use something they are good at. If all else fails each month could also be a different kind of raffle.
Piper Hoffman
2019-10-07 21:39:45 +0000 UTCI also like Ray "BadServo" Taylor's idea. One-on-one-gift-giving loop-hole for the win.

2019-10-07 21:23:04 +0000 UTCyes
Lisa Schmitz
2019-10-07 21:14:54 +0000 UTCVoted for option one. I am not at all a creative person and just love watching your art. I also work a bazillion hours. So winning on something creative or being on time for the live feed is probably not an option for me. I think it is awesome you give anything away at all. Do whatever makes you happy.
Daisy
2019-10-07 21:11:29 +0000 UTCI voted for the 3rd option (fan art.) I didn’t like the first option because it’s called “From the Mind of Christin McConnell” not “From the Mind of Some Rando.” I want to see your ideas that’s why I subscribe. I also don’t like the second option because the livestream process is just a pain. And I hate the 4th option because you don’t like it and this is your show and you should be able to do what you like more than what anyone else prefers .
Uzannesay
2019-10-07 21:00:22 +0000 UTCNo matter what you pick we will support you! Not everyone can watch the live streams and when it comes to art we’ll make sure it’s not about drawing but what others can create! And they can take a pic with it and with them in it!
Dannie Weatherford
2019-10-07 20:53:53 +0000 UTCI like number three cause we can see other people’s creations! Would this be our own art or our attempts at recreating your ideas? One is fun too, but sounds like a lot of work for you!
Kristina pierce
2019-10-07 20:46:51 +0000 UTCSince there can be so many internet issues and you have patrons from all over the world, I don’t think having a live event where a patron must participate is fair. That’s not to mention all that can go wrong with internet issues. I don’t like the first option because your ideas are so very unique. An art contest may be difficult for some who don’t or can’t create due to illness or disability,. Perhaps you could ask a bit more difficult question, give us 24 hours to answer, and then have a drawing as a tie breaker for those with correct answers?
Leathery Wings
2019-10-07 20:45:53 +0000 UTCI go with Ray "BadServo" Taylor's idea.

2019-10-07 20:36:52 +0000 UTCYour live stream is in the middle of the night for me since I live in Sweden 😕
Lisa Löfgren
2019-10-07 20:19:43 +0000 UTCHere's an idea- how about you release a video- for example the bird cage. People send you ideas for the title of the video- or craft. You pick which one you like the most and that's the winner? Lots of people arent artsy or dont have the time. I needed a Xanax after the trivia session. Your ideas for crafts are waaay better than mine. And I think the giveaways are a huge draw. But thinking of a catchy title involves almost no effort- and will also be a perk for your patrons. Just an idea...oh yah one entry per patron to keep your sanity
Kirsten Perez
2019-10-07 20:07:33 +0000 UTCI love the idea of an art contest, something open ended medium-wise, working from a chosen theme and not a particular skill set. Kind of how Rosie inspired everything from paintings to sculptures to cookies and Christmas ornaments. It’s a fun peek into how one mind inspires another!
Samantha
2019-10-07 20:03:23 +0000 UTCI like the first two options. Although with the first option, maybe we can do a suggestion based on a themed category you give us? For instance, December we could suggest a certain specific project xmas related or February, valentine related etc . Obviously horror themed.
Rudy Bonilla
2019-10-07 20:00:43 +0000 UTCThe only reason the original giveaway was legally iffy was because it was only open to Patrons.
Mayra
2019-10-07 19:59:41 +0000 UTCThat's why I suggested opening the giveaway to all viewers, not just Patrons.
Mayra
2019-10-07 19:57:26 +0000 UTCHonestly, I think this is perhaps not as big an issue as you may think. While the law is clear, the distinction of a "giveaway" isn't. I'd say instead of mentioning any giveaway in the videos, or promoting it as a Patreon perk or anything, just complete your crafts as usual. Afterward, if you have a craft that you don't need and think someone else might like... then pick a random person from the Patreon ranks, and email them if ask if they would like you to "gift" it to them. It's a subtle distinction, but a one-on-one gift is very different from a publicized "giveaway". Personally, I'd be delighted to win an original piece of yours, but my schedule makes it tough to catch live streams, so I'm out in the cold on anything that requires a timed-interaction. I'm happy enough with the videos though. ^_^

2019-10-07 19:42:41 +0000 UTCOooh I like this idea too!

2019-10-07 19:35:42 +0000 UTCHello Christine. I thought the trivia question was a good idea but the time delay made it a bit tricky to answer in an even timely manner. I like the idea for submitting ideas for the next project, that sounds fun and creative.

2019-10-07 19:35:23 +0000 UTCOne big thing is sweepstakes must be free. We are paying through Patreon making it still an exchange of money which is illegal 😔

2019-10-07 19:27:10 +0000 UTCMy thoughts, even though no one asked. #1 I was thinking of number one, but then there might be so many suggestions it might be overwhelming for you, unless you limit the number of suggestions. #2 I don’t care for, because I get too nervous and forget. Also many times I can’t make the livestream. Taking care of my mom with dementia. #3 I like, because it lets us see other people’s work and also gets others to be creative. Will you be giving us a theme if this one is chosen? #4 NOOOOOOO! Many of us would love to have one of your creations.
banglada
2019-10-07 19:22:45 +0000 UTCWell, is there any way you can do the drawing in another state? Where they are legal? I mean I know traveling is hard, but maybe a friend or a relative can do it? Just a suggestion. I don't like the art contest, doesn't seem really fair to those of us who are not creative, or just starting out.
Tania Lorena Rivera
2019-10-07 19:18:13 +0000 UTCHonestly not a fan of the trivia option. That option would not be inclusive to yours fans outside of the US (like me in the UK). Such a shame that you are not allowed to do the random pick anymore. That's the most fair way for everyone to have a chance. I think giving the prize to whomever has the best idea for a future project is the best way to go forward. It engages your supporters to engage with your channel, encourages discussion, is a good way for you to perhaps try stretching your skills in a direction you may not have considered, and is a more inclusive way of giving people a chance to win regardless of time zones or levels of artistic talent.
Miss Maz
2019-10-07 19:13:41 +0000 UTCthe giveaway is a nice addition, but all the options next to the trivia question makes it seem totally unfair for those who are not as creative and artsy as we would like to be. I agree the random drawing is the only fair choice to allow all skill sets and age groups to be eligible. The next best fair choice would be an answer to a trivia question. To make it more on point and current to the months topic, it could be a question that would be known by watching the months video or even having the question and answer in the video and asking the answer during the livestream or something like that. this way, you are rewarding those who have watched the video for the month but still requiring the "skill" of remembering the clue and and then watching the livestream when it is occurring to input the answer when it is time...
Stacia Warren
2019-10-07 19:10:34 +0000 UTCHonestly, we LOVE YOU!!!! You don’t have to give stuff away. I wish I could pay you more. I am so grateful that you want to give us prizes. Just learning from your and being inspired by your artistry is the greatest gift of all<3

2019-10-07 19:05:32 +0000 UTCYour last livestream was great. Loved it even though I couldn't watch it live for the giveaway.
Alan E Marling
2019-10-07 19:00:29 +0000 UTCI like the first idea, but I worry that you could get hit with people claiming you somehow playing favorites or some such. With the art contest option, online votes are easily broken. You would want to have some way to make sure the Patreon folks are the only ones voting, and only voting once. Which may be just as easy as doing the poll in here, I don't know how secure Patreon is that way.
Joe Ravenson
2019-10-07 18:57:53 +0000 UTCI'm really depressed and need something to cheer me up
Paula Osborne
2019-10-07 18:47:57 +0000 UTCWhat if you did the art contest (could even be something like a printable coloring sheet for those less artistic) but the way you picked the best art was by picking with your eyes closed, in a random sort of way ;) .
Linsey
2019-10-07 18:41:29 +0000 UTCI was thinking the same exact thing! Sort of like a little workaround for the law...this way it is still somewhat random and Christine doesn't have to feel bad about making it competitive!
Jessica Lee Hileman
2019-10-07 18:36:56 +0000 UTCWhere do we send in our suggestion for futures projects ?
jackie alvarez
2019-10-07 18:36:45 +0000 UTCI like submitting ideas for your next project and the art contest, but maybe there should be a limit where you can't win more than once, since I'm sure a lot of people are more artistic than others and it would be nice to still have a shot. Or maybe the art projects can all be different themes/mediums of art each time. So it's not always drawing or painting, for instance.
Erika Robbins
2019-10-07 18:36:08 +0000 UTCMy favorite option is also the random drawing, for the reasons you cited. :( Is there any legal way to call it a raffle? As in, your Patreon pledge is your contribution for a "ticket". Or are raffles a no-no in Cali as well?
Rebecca Johnson
2019-10-07 18:35:42 +0000 UTCI'm horrible with art but I love a challenge
Carmen Garsia
2019-10-07 18:30:15 +0000 UTCI absolutely love the idea of art contest because it would: 1. Push me to make something beautiful; and, 2. Even if I don't win the contest, I still *have* something beautiful. I think it might be nice to acknowledge that there are many different types of art and that it doesn't have to be perfect in order to win. <3
Alys Sink
2019-10-07 18:30:10 +0000 UTCI don't need a chance to win anything to be inspired by you.

2019-10-07 18:26:39 +0000 UTCThe only issue with that is she would have to exclude all patreon members from winning and participating in states that have deemed drawings unlawful

2019-10-07 18:16:53 +0000 UTCAn art contest would really fulfil the concept of using a skill (art comes in so many different forms as well), it fits with the creative flair behind your program and work and allows a fair opportunity for the merit of work to be recognised and awarded. I know that not all might, for example, be able to draw but we could make something 3d etc? Think of another creative, artistic outlet - it is after all partly what you do? Love x

2019-10-07 18:01:39 +0000 UTCI like the project idea above the art project because there is more of a sense of community with that and you don’t have to be a super special artist in order to win.
Robyn Moore
2019-10-07 18:00:29 +0000 UTCI love the art idea! I really hope we do this! I've been wanting to do a piece inspired by you anyway!
Angela Stobb
2019-10-07 18:00:17 +0000 UTCI’m not a huge fan of any of those options, because I think it really limits potential winners to those with artistic talent, or creativity, or luck of the livestream (not everyone would be able to watch live because of work). However, I’m not super sure how to get around California’s rule. That’s very frustrating - I’m sorry it’s making it difficult for you to be generous and share your work with your community.

2019-10-07 17:56:21 +0000 UTCI love the art contest idea, as it means we're doing something artistic for you, too! <3 (But then, it might not be fair for those who aren't actually artistically inclined -- maybe rotate out the giveaway options, art contest one time, trivia another, idea submission another ….)

2019-10-07 17:54:16 +0000 UTCUse RaffleCopter. It's free to use (depending on your choice of format) & it's self generating. 2019-10-07 17:53:16 +0000 UTCTrivia isn’t fair due to the lag. People answered before we all could even hear the question . Art contest is fair but people shouldn’t vote based on talent but idea and effort

2019-10-07 17:51:19 +0000 UTCI voted for the trivia option, but I wanted to comment that perhaps all the correct answers are entered and drawn at random. That way a slow typer like myself might still have a chance.
Melinda
2019-10-07 17:51:17 +0000 UTCI hope you’re getting advice from a real California-licensed lawyer because a cursory Google search tells me sweepstakes ARE legal in California. 2019-10-07 17:49:48 +0000 UTCThat is such a weird law... does California not have raffles then either? Or does that count because you buy a ticket? 2019-10-07 17:48:05 +0000 UTCI LOVE this idea!! Let me check up on this!

2019-10-07 17:47:02 +0000 UTCI'm not a fan of anything that includes a "first person to" qualification because on internet lag and I'm in bed by the time the Livestream happens.
Patrick Nottingham
2019-10-07 17:46:59 +0000 UTCWould asking a trivia question during the stream, submitting answers via email and doing a draw from the correct answers be legal??
Amy (Izzy) Star
2019-10-07 17:46:27 +0000 UTCI think the trivia is an issue due to lags in the feed. I like the idea of alternating the art and ideas

2019-10-07 17:46:06 +0000 UTCI am not at all artistic but would love to see any creations that other subscribers make!!

2019-10-07 17:45:20 +0000 UTCThe trivia is nice, but the livestreams seem to occur later in the evening for us on the east coast (I know I am personally in bed by 930 since I need to be up for work around 430am).
Kristin Ott
2019-10-07 17:45:19 +0000 UTCI think the trivia option would be best if the question is from the video you posted about the item. That way everyone has a fair chance to get it right. I expected the last trivia question to be the name of the friend you mentioned or a material you used or something similar. I also noticed that before you had asked the question answers were already up because of lag, the first website you used for live streaming seemed to work better! Those are my thoughts, thank you for doing giveaways it's really nice of you 😊

2019-10-07 17:45:09 +0000 UTCI really like Stephanie's idea, if it works with the laws- STEPHANIE HORN: "What if everyone had to answer a trivia question to be entered into the drawing? I have exactly 0 art skills so if it involves art - I'm out " . First one to answer trivia I'm not a fan of, because that means you better have the best internet to even get a chance. But Trivia answers to go into a pool for random drawing would be great, thats something everyone can do and be a part of. Though I love crafting, there are people who just aren't creative/skilled. As Stephanie said about her, if its art shes already out.

2019-10-07 17:44:51 +0000 UTCThis might be a long shot and I could totally be wrong but rather than calling it a “Give away” could it be called a lottery? And since all Patreon subscribers pay to be such, would that count as “buying a chance to win” and then could be a drawing?
Katie Ahseln
2019-10-07 17:42:55 +0000 UTCI do like the idea of the art project, but also think it could be unfair to those that don't have the time or artistic skillset. I think trivia and or letting us pick the art project might be the most fair!

2019-10-07 17:42:47 +0000 UTCI have missed the live-streams because I keep forgetting about the time zone conversion. I’m going to start setting alarms!
Laura Chambers
2019-10-07 17:42:43 +0000 UTCI vote for art contest! But for those who may not be as creative maybe you can switch off ideas every other giveaway. But I love art projects! And I think it would be great to have that option for the creative and talented individuals. 😀🎃

2019-10-07 17:42:36 +0000 UTCFYI. Was able to go to Winchester Mystery House Halloween overlay last Friday night. First thing we did was spend time go around and around your gingerbread house there. Just stunning. The individual shingles all over--the individual bricks--AND that stunning draping royal icing defying gravity. (some of them have broken off and are laying on the ground :-( --at least I'm hoping they just fell off and no hands were involved....). Keep doing an thing you want, I think it SO works for all of us.

2019-10-07 17:42:07 +0000 UTCI would say art is art and I would allow nearly any medium! Also, the five I pick would vary in skill level as I would want everyone who entered to have a chance :D
Christine McConnell
2019-10-07 17:42:07 +0000 UTCYou could hide an easter egg in your videos and the first person to message you that they found it could win? Only Patrons would know to look for the thing.
Julie Scott
2019-10-07 17:41:47 +0000 UTCI personally don’t like the trivia, but I think it’s a fair option, my internet lags, so I won’t be there live. I love the art project because it adds a little creep to every day items. I love your edited videos, there fun to work to.
Maria Lyn Bradshaw
2019-10-07 17:41:35 +0000 UTCalso how about a video on making cool Christmas wrapping paper, boxes and Christmas cards?! I think that would be a great video everyone can do themselves and with the family.

2019-10-07 17:40:57 +0000 UTCIt would be awesome to see the creativity you've inspired in others. Art contest!
Christine Lambert
2019-10-07 17:39:25 +0000 UTCI like the trivia idea but I can't always watch the livestreams. :/
Julie Scott
2019-10-07 17:39:00 +0000 UTCI’d love to see a photoshop tutorial video! You have such amazing edits. I’d also like to see you make some crowns/ horns/ hair flower things. Also any decorating tips for people on a small budget, like cool ways to paint your walls, how to make cool photo frames..
Kassandra Love
2019-10-07 17:38:27 +0000 UTCIf it's an art project then I have no hope 😅

2019-10-07 17:38:23 +0000 UTCWhat if everyone had to answer a trivia question to be entered into the drawing? I have exactly 0 art skills so if it involves art - I'm out
STEPHANIE HORN
2019-10-07 17:37:33 +0000 UTCArt for sure as I can’t watch the live streams live being in the UK!!
Amy
2019-10-07 17:37:22 +0000 UTCThe art project idea is great!
Lizzy Cupcake
2019-10-07 17:37:13 +0000 UTCIt doesn't get more skill based than an art contest! The drawing was my favorite, but the laws are the law. Maybe if you end up moving to the East Coast the State you move to will allow drawings 😊
Sinister Sarah
2019-10-07 17:37:07 +0000 UTCCan the art project be something we’ve sewed or does that not count as art technically?.. that’s my main form of art
Nikki
2019-10-07 17:36:51 +0000 UTCI know you don't like the option, but maybe it would be better to hold off for now. I didn't vote on it because I know it isn't ideal. I know you were talking about that move to the East coast. I would look into the law over there. Maybe it would be legal over there and you could pick it up again at that point. Not giving it up forever, but just putting it on hold until circumstances may allow.

2019-10-07 17:36:39 +0000 UTCDoes anyone know how long it takes for the autographed photos to ship? Joined the $20 tier in September and just wondering. Loving the videos! 🤗❤️
Angeline Wible
2019-10-07 17:36:15 +0000 UTCWhat if you did a drawing but the person drawn had to answer a trivia question to officially win? That way it’s still a drawing and therefore fair... but there’s still “skill” involved.
Brooke Cochran
2019-10-07 17:36:15 +0000 UTCI love the drawing/art idea. It leaves it up to everyone and it’s creative and everyone can join and feel more involved ! I think it would help with everyone getting inspired as well!
Amanda
2019-10-07 17:35:48 +0000 UTCI think the idea option or the trivia option are the fairest, since those don't rely on any specialized talents or skills that not everyone has.
Jo
2019-10-07 17:35:42 +0000 UTCI think the art project and the trivia are hard for some. I am not great at art and don't have much time for it since I'm in school and working. And there was a lag on the trivia last time so it threw me out immediately. The best craft idea is probaby the best of these.
Emily Hurt
2019-10-07 17:35:33 +0000 UTCI like drawings the most since it leaves it up to chance! I always have issues with livestreams lagging. So sad it's not an option anymore
