We hadn't had much activity on social media lately, and we're terribly sorry for this.
However it doesn't mean we sat back and did nothing all that time, though some things went pretty tough. No matter what, we continue our work on the Sweetie Bot Project!
And the first thing we should mention - we’re done with consumer grade servos. Of course, nowadays Proto2 and Proto3 include them - Dongbu Herkulex, to be precise.
What seemed to be a nice decision back in 2017, now pres...

Sorry for lack of updates last months. Actually we do have updates, but most of them is far from finish. COVID19 lock-down limits our ability for meeting but we work online.
1. We developing machine vision module for Sweetie. On attached video you can see some examples of plush body and muzzle recognition. Especially for this, we created and label out plush dataset and teach neural net on it. More objects is on it's way.
2. We participated in online competition at the Russian ROS ...

For ears and tail we use small hobby servos, so we need a board to control them the same way we control main servo. The internal firmware gets binary commands on UART bus and translate them to PWM signals.
We have a lot of progress on a software to. Right now we almost finish intergration of SOAR cognitive architecture into Sweetie.
The goal of the Soar project is to...

Our main software repository is located here https://gitlab.com/sweetie-bot/sweetie_bot
And there is the mirror on github.
There is installation instruction in the readme. Anyone can install it on linux PC and experiment with the robot in a virtual 3D environment.
It's still WIP. We are look...

Earlier we showed the battery for Proto3. This one is for Proto2.
It is very important to be able to completely disassemble the battery if we want to be able to travel with the robot. In some countries there are restrictions on transportation li-ion batteries in the cabin and bagage. Exceptions exist only for certified devices and individual batteries.
Small teaser: we are planning a big trip this summer! :)

As you know we have asked about a new head design earlier. The votes were divided almost equally there: 9 for keeping KP-ShadowSquirrel model and 8 for making a new design.
But we've decided to make a new head design for Proto3 anyway. :)
You see, we have a lot of changes that affect the internals of the head. And KP-ShadowSquirrel's model does not fully fit our needs.
For Proto2 we will ke...

We have almost done all the necessary preparation for the Sweetie Bot Control software release!
We've put a lot of effort into it. It's one of the most difficult part of the project. You know, without the software Sweetie Bot is only a doll.
Of course, it will be Open Source (we chose a BSD license), that means everyone can download it and try it oneself. It's necessary if we want more developers to join us in the future.
And here we have a small teaser: "sweetie_b...
