Best hip-hop album of all time?

As I have been getting a few requests for Ultramagnetic MC's HQ's, I will add their stuff to the next drop.

As for this post - it's just a humble nod to the best hip-hop album of all time (in my opinion). The timeless classic of 1988. There are few albums I know perfectly from start to finish - this is the one. A must have for everyone.

If you, by a chance, happen not to be familiar with this one, here are few youtoobs -

Ego Trippin' - Ease Back - Give The Drummer Some - Critical Beatdown

Here's a great 2003 group review from discogs by DJ_Qubits:

"Arising from the Boogie Down Bronx in the mid-'80s as a far-flung hip-hop trio with a heap of new ideas to try out, Ultramagnetic's Kool Keith, Ced Gee, and DJ Moe Love occupy something of a singular place in the old-school pantheon. Combining funk-heavy tracks with jeep-rocking beats and obscure lyrical references, Ultramagnetic MC's have a list of firsts to their credit: the first group to employ a sampler as an instrument, the first to feature extensive use of live instrumentation...the first to feature a former psychiatric patient (Keith) on the mic. Early singles like "Something Else" and "Space Groove" were block-party staples and created waves in the underground, eventually landing the group on the disco-dominated Next Plateau label, where they released their underappreciated debut. The following years found the group shuffling from label to label, releasing albums on Mercury and Wild Pitch before splitting to pursue various projects."

Agree to disagree? Which ones do you consider the best hip-hop albums of all time?

Best hip-hop album of all time?

Comments

Yes. It was appropriately called ''no one can do it better''.

Totally agree about D.O.C.... that one album there he did that I can't think of right now was 100% dope through and through..

But I love the ones you named as well. I still think Lady Of Rage album is underrated and D.O.C. would have been in consideration among the greatest emcees to ever hold a mic unless that tragic car accident.

OuB

Named all the heavyweights there. My hip-hop escapades have been more along the line of NYC 88-95 era and boom bap.

My personal favorite album of all time will always be Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle. I got this album when I was 13 or 14, it was the first ever Rap album I consciously chose to buy and it influenced my musical taste from back then up to today like nothing else. And it introduced me to a lot of great other artists (in my opinion) such as RBX, Dogg Pound, Lady of Rage, Nate Dogg, Warren G and D.O.C. I think I still remember 90% if not 100% of the lyrics of all songs and skits. Oddly enough, I don't think I ever heard an Ultramagnetic MCs album. :-O Will do that with the next update. :)
