Great question! This question will be addressed in the Sounds of American English course, which you can access in the Collections tab: https://www.patreon.com/collection/30174 The light L is pronounced with the tip of the tongue raised up, touching behind the lower teeth, and the rest of the tongue down. The dark L is pronounced with the tip and middle of the tongue raised up, touching behind the lower teeth, and the rest of the tongue at a middle level. It takes more effort to make this sound, and it kind of feels like you're pressing your tongue with effort against your teeth.
