It took quite a long while this time, but it was because I’ve started using the model of the Rawr Arena to make instant-backgrounds, and it wasn’t as instantaneous as expected.
Firstly because without having the characters actually placed in the scene you might not get at the first try the best camera angle.
Secondly, Blender has the tool that lets you draw 2D on a 3D background, the Grease Pencil, but it’s a vector tool meant more to make clean outlines than scruffy chaotic sketches. I made very basic sketches just to get the approximative locations of the characters in the scene and did all the rest of the work with my old friend Krita.
Thirdly, and that’s dramatic both in a negative and positive sense, having a defined architectural background means you have to populate it with tons of characters if you don’t want it to look barren and bleak like a Kingdom Hearts world.
Celebrity Bangmatch is a big sports event followed by a lot of people, and I want to give that feeling.
So much that some of them organize their personal matches between the bigger ones. In this case, El Macho, the OC from Powerplayer, fights my orc Kondar in the corridors under the bleachers.
The audience is made of some other OCs, like Gnarg, Oz from John Galt, Zur from Orgrath, the well-known goo orc Zur’Gon, another character from Powerplayer, and other two of my creation, the human-orc couple of lumberers from my comic.
Don’t question the existence of that ring: they’re orcs, they can build a ring faster than you can make a card house.
And if you’re wondering, this was a Patreon Reward, way beefier than usual, but since it was a concept that fits in my CBM universe and expanded on it, I felt a lot like over-delivering.
I might accept the ideas for more unofficial matches, both with your OCs and other copyrighted characters if have the patience to wait for the time that takes me to finish a batch of 5+ pages.
If you were also wondering, Rillaboom too is a pokemon from Zangief’s team, but he couldn’t assist him in his fight because he was still busy being milked. I will post his full team in two interludes.
Let’s just say that Machocke/Machamp isn’t one of them.
Addendum:
Another thing that took me quite a while to make is the new VS screen, more videogame-inspired. All the floating graphics are now made with vectors. Even the logo has been retraced and now is a nice sharp vector object that can be bent, fixed and scaled at my will and not leave rounded corners or smudges of pixels behind. So proud of it.
