E3 Survey Review Part 14 - Mini Games

Next two questions are about mini games. First question is about mini games in general - in any AVN not just Elmwood.

So overall there's not a huge enthusiasm for mini games but there's definitely interest if they're engineered well. If we look back at the E1 Survey it's quite pleasing to see that more than 60% of you like HaremWars - although the E1 survey only had 79 responses here so much less data.

But this question was never about HaremWars - it was to gauge interest in adding additional mini games. Such as something similar to the image at the top of this post. Here's what you said to that:

Admittedly - I was expecting more enthusiasm for this so I'm very glad I asked this question. Only 10% of you were keen on it (which we note is a very similar percentage to those who said they love mini games in the previous question) and the majority of you said maybe with quite a high number (1 in 3 of you) saying that it would suck.

Ok - message received - I'm not going to be adding this.

I'll admit - I was a little excited for it. I was going to call it SLUT SMACKDOWN and the idea was that different girls would have different moves - one of the cheerleaders might throw pom poms for instance. But yeah - it would have been pretty difficult to execute well in the renpy engine. And by the way - one of those Other answers is "Possibly, but I think the development time would be better spent elsewhere..." I agree with this completely and that's why if I did introduce a complicated mini game like this I would hire a coder who's much more skilled than I am so that not only is the mini game better but also it wouldn't slow down production. HaremWars was coded by a very talented person who goes by Mr Thicker, not myself.

But yeah - Slut SmackDown won't be added to Elmwood. I don't think Elmwood necessarily needs more mini games but if there's something really fun that you'll enjoy - I do want to add it. So if I think of any other mini games that I'm seriously considering I'll probably gauge interest in a future survey in the exact same way I did here.

And I've said this before but just to reiterate - HaremWars is 100% optional and victories/losses have no influence on the story. That will be the same for any other mini game if another is added.

Comments

I liked HaremWars, very similar to the Triple Triad that many of us played as kids in FF8, although simpler here as the rules don't change when you visit a new city/town 😁. The AI seems to always play the same way because the hand of cards available is the same, but I repeat, for a secondary mini-game where we don't gain anything by having new cards, it's very good.

Rather not have minigames shoehorned in to make dev time longer. The love corruption system looks complex enough as it is and don’t want it bugging out with all the episodes planned.
