Equilinox Trailer - Another Version

Hey everyone,

Thanks a lot for all your feedback about the trailer yesterday! I found it extremely useful.

I've made a few changes to the trailer based on the things some of you suggested. Unfortunately I don't have time to significantly redo the trailer (as you may have seen in the devlog video it took me the entire week to make and I don't really have the time to do that again) but I've made some changes to the text and order of the footage as well as redoing a couple of bits, which hopefully changes the feeling of the trailer slightly.

The main things that I've tried to change are:

-Make it feel less like listing features/mechanics and more about how it feels to play the game. Mostly done by changing the text.

-Show less complicated UI. I removed 2 bits of footage which showed rather complicated looking UI. There are still a couple of UIs shown but I'm not really sure how to replace them. I don't know how else I could show evolving without showing the evolving UI, and the stats of the boar are just shown to make it clear that its not just a creative-mode world building game, but that the animals do have stats of some kind and need to be looked after.

-Have more of a coherent structure to the trailer. I changed the order round a bit so that it starts with talking about creating ecosystems, then goes on to talk about nurturing them and watching them flourish, and finally it talks about diversifying by genetically modifying your species and evolving them to unlock new ones.

As already said, the changes I've actually made to the video aren't huge, but let me know if you think it's a step in the right direction or whether you preferred the previous version.

Thanks a lot!

Karl

Maybe add a fade in / fade out?

Really well done! I wasn't a fan of the first trailer (though my girlfriend liked it), but this one was perfect. Nice job.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! If I have some time I'll try and improve that scene :)

Thanks :)

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try making the text stay on the screen a bit longer :)

Thank you :)

I think I agree with that one...

Definitely an improvement. The greater focus on the charming animal behaviours makes it more engaging, and I too love the Pink Pig! I still think it would be better with some kind of voice over, but it's a lot closer to where it needs to be already. Thumbs up!

Definitely looks a lot better than before! The only thing that's still throwing me off a bit is the timelapse scene, the fast movement of the water is a bit too hectic. If you still have the time too work on this you could try temporarily smoothing out the water in the game and recording the timelapse again, and see if that works better. Other than that, if it's not too complicated to edit, maybe you could try to have the timelapse also contain significant changes in the skybox, like starting with a sunrise, having the sun set on screen, and showing at least part of the night. One final idea I had for the timelapse was to have it repeatedly speed up and slow down to normal speed again. It might look cool, but then again it would be a lot of effort and might need the shot to be on screen longer than it is right now to be effective.

Great trailer, I can't wait to see it released!

I think the trailer reflects very well the look and feel of the game and goes a long way towards capturing the interest of a prospective player. If I were my first contact with the game however, I think I would be left wondering what the objective of the game is - how do I 'win'. Knowing the game, I realise that it's not exactly that sort of game, but I wonder if the trailer shouldn't include an indication of the goals. Otherwise, great game and beautiful trailer.

Great job on the trailer. My only critique is the text descriptions seem a little rushed. If it is possible to extend their time on screen by a second or two, it would help with readability and reinforce each related scene. It may not be needed where it would require extending the duration of a scene too much, such as the unlocking species scene.

I honestly don't see any more improvements that I can think of other than what was already mentioned since the first version. As a gamer and a consumer, you've still managed to hold my attention undivided, and I find myself returning to this video to see it again. Game Consumers tend to dissect the trailer to see what they can infer about the game and make their final decisions on making a purchase. Overall, this trailer is fantastic, and I hope this game succeeds with great recognition.

The pink pig make me laught ! It's definitly better than the first version.

Itโ€™s ironic how the changes werenโ€™t huge, but made a huge difference ๐Ÿ™‚ This felt much better ๐Ÿ™‚
