process: making new tier illustrations!

update: I added a screenshot from my Notion page now that I'm on my PC and not posting from my iPad heheh and I added the final versions of the last two tier illustrations!

Hello my dears! Happy Thursday~ I’m coming at you from a cafe work date with Connor, and I wanted to share what I’m working on - new tier illos!!! My little fruit/sprout kids were very cute! but extremely outdated in terms of my style lol so I got a creative wind the other night and sketched up a few ideas hehe

My process for designing smaller graphics like this (spot illos, emotes, branding stuff, sometimes even full illos tbh) is I will scribble around a whole bunch, like on the second page, and then I will select each sketch that I like and paste it onto a new canvas. I resize it (they’re usually VERY small hah) and then make it red, and draw a finessed version on a layer above the sketch. And then from there I just color in my line work like a coloring book! My April postcard was more “painterly” than I normally do, and it’s a fun/beautiful style, but strong lineart is always my go to when I want to make work kinda quickly. I really like the process/challenge of making sure the qualities I loved in my sketch translate to the final lineart. Sometimes I just use the sketch for lineart if it’s big enough, but I doodle so small that I often gotta copy it over and redo it lol.

Also, there’s a bunch of extra doodles on that sketch page that I ended up using in my new Notion set up !!! I want to use it for a few days to see how it feels, but if it seems to stick, I will absolutely make a casual little Notion tour video for y’all. Because of my ADHD, I need everything to be visible on one page at all times or I’ll never interact with it, so it was a fun challenge to configure it all. >:)

Anywho! Two of the tier images are done, and I’m hoping to finish the last two later today. I’m also gonna finally be cracking into my P.o. box stuff today!! I know y’all said you wanted to see a video of it — because I have a very large backlog (shoutout to executive dysfunction ;;), I don’t think I’d have the bandwidth to edit it too much, so it’d be a very lengthy, mostly ambient video of me opening mail, and showing the camera anything that I feel comfy showing off. Does that sound alright or way too boring? Let me know either way pls!
