Dev Build - I Want Candy

The Candy Factory is finally open for visitors!

This place is full of sugary snacks including a mysterious blue gumball that does exactly what you think it does. The character will chew it and grow until they eventually swallow it, triggering a full blueberry transformation.

The gum should basically work at any size, but the transition might look a little bit funky when used in the middle growth stages because of blendshape limitations. The character will also retain the blueberry transformation when switching to different maps and resetting to skinny or a blob shape will remove the effect. You can also break the large mints and cookies on the ground into smaller bite sized chunks if the character is heavy enough.

Despite all the food and environmental variety, this place still feels kinda empty. I want to add some more mechanics like getting stuck in a chocolate pipe or perhaps drinking from the chocolate river. I also want to add some NPC's to interact with. Hopefully I can get some of that stuff working for the next update.

I also want to talk about rolling, or the lack thereof. Right now, the blueberry body is the same as the round body except blue. It gets the job done, but it leaves much to be desired. As I've mentioned before, the softbody plugin I use doesn't support rolling with an animated character attached, which is extremely disappointing. I've spent many hours trying to find a way around this limitation, but I simply can't get it to work. (Any footage you've seen of rolling in the past was using an older plugin that I no longer use because it only works on nvidia GPUs and has been abandoned by the developers for years.)

Rolling around on such a big map sounds like a lot of fun and I don't want to exclude it because of some arbitrary tech limitation. I'm going to try to find some other solution for the rolling problem, but that probably means sacrificing the squishy softbody effects to make it work, which I think is better than nothing. Depending on how it goes, I hope to have rolling included in the next build as well.

Anyway, thanks for your patience with this update. I hope you enjoy it!

Cool!

Rev

I might add popping eventually. It's been requested a bunch

blobygon

Really great stuff! The slow steady filling of berry inflation always leads my mind to popping - any chance of seeing an option for bursting/popping in the future? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I do enjoy expansion with limits that ends in a bang.

Rev

No sorry, it's windows only. It should work with Wine though

blobygon

Is this also available on MacOs or no ?

Jojo Joestar

i love this. its another masterpiece. i hope we can make them bigger in the future.

dabgab

This game is fantastic truly nothing like it! Thank you so much for making it! Also thanks for adding in Male characters playing your game is a wonderful experience!

NoodlesFA

Awesome! :)

Karma TheWolf

Thatd be nice to have. I want to rework all the status effects at some point to add more options like that.

blobygon

goated update, this game keeps getting better and better! if i had to propose a new addition i think it would be npcs that react to your weight, thatd be fun to interact with

Gebabre

Loving this game and it's latest build! Silly question- but do you plan on having the ability to mess with the sound effects for burps/farts? Like changing the length and/or the pitch of them- or anything really on the matter of these sounds. Thanks for creating such a fun little game!

Karma TheWolf

I might do inflation stuff eventually but probably not anytime soon

blobygon

Man, this is such a good update! It would be interesting to have voice lines of the character making comments about their weight / wanting to eat.

SlopShop

Really enjoyed this build, really cool to see stuff like Blueberry added! But it does got me wondering if there's a possible chance for typical air inflation to be added?

Saradominphat

hell yeah

Someguyw1

I would like to do some belly-focused stuff again, but I'm not sure when I'll get to it. It would require a pretty unique setup compared to what is already in the game, but I hope to add it eventually.

blobygon

would you ever be willing to do something similar to your soda binge game where its is mainly focused on the belly rather then weight gain? or a digestion meter that would slowly make your character gain weight depending on how much soda they drank.

Someguyw1

Sure, go ahead

blobygon

outstanding work. i do have a question regarding future features if you are willing to hear me out

Someguyw1

Glad you like it! You can DM me here if you want.

blobygon

The latest build is amazing. It's truly awe-inspiring how you've made all this work. I do have some feedback, tho. Do you have a discord? Would that be a better place?

spicydrumstix

This bug can happen if you transfer saves from an older build. The swatch colors won't appear for some reason, but you should still be able to change the colors of stuff.

blobygon

I think the burp color effects and all the color indicators on the status effect screen are bug too not appear

Clatter Kree

the fruitening, it’s incredible….. bless you blobygon, truly 🥹

CobaltReverie

I don't really comment on things but I have to say this is easily one of the best things I've come across. The cute animations, the jiggle physics, and of course, the blueberry transformation! I'd love to have a "stage modifier" for the blueberry sequence: like a chubby stage or an obese stage of the transformation. Hoping someday you'd be able to add that rolling mechanic. Side note: my gf (she has a fat and inflation kink) loved the design of the in-game character model.

looneywoomy

I don't know if it would be possible to add a linear multiple choice scenario like the snackrooms which I find extremely immersive. I may be asking for a lot, so if it's not in the next projects it doesn't matter. Personally, I'm not interested in non-scripted maps for a good reason: the snackrooms is really perfect in idea, I love it so much. Your character does not gain weight not because we are going to make him eat but because he has to eat! he has no choice in moving forward in the storyline and it's extremely catchy. Once again thank you for everything, you are the artist so it's up to you. I love your creative freedom so above all follow your desires :D Have a nice day until then :)

empreur draaah

Thanks for letting me know. That's a known bug that always happens around that stage in weight gain. For some reason it gets more pronounced the farther away you get from the spawn point. I plan to look into that sometime soon.

blobygon

Don't know if anyone else has noticed it, but in the obese category when eating from bushes the top of the body wobbles around weirdly for a second. I find it kinda funny tbh but thought I'd mention it in any case. Aside from that, amazing work as always, the candy factory looks awesome and while I'm not a huge fan of blueberry stuff myself it's a very nice animation and addition nonetheless

Shadow

having it be a tight round body which would be better for a blueberry.

Saul Wright

Maybe you could just switch it to a toggle you can check for which shape you want and it just goes on automatic?

Nemo

Alrighty, finally had a moment to play this. The new candyland is very nicely designed. A nice change of pace from the grounded other areas- even the snackrooms are more grounded in their visual style by comparison. I like how (relatively) vertical this area is for a change and how many of the scenery elements are edible- I also noticed the addition of particle affects! Which is neat. Overall very good. I dont have any comment on the blueberry stuff because its not my sort of thing, nonetheless cool for those that like it. I think the sort of 'automatic' gain that the berry mode utilizes has potential in the future. I could see a slower such auto-gain being a sort of soft time limit- you need to escape so and so place before your too fat to fit through the door. that sort of thing.

MemeMarsh

Ah ok, so im assuming just the blobs then? Very helpful clarification. In that case I dont mind.

MemeMarsh

This kicks ass

Scarf Guy

Thats basically what I intend to do for rolling, make a dedicated body type for it. The other ideas are interesting. I might be able to do something like these.

blobygon

phenomenal job! can't wait for the updates!

DiscoJacket

Not right now but I'll see if I can make that work. Currently it would get in the way of selecting different body shapes as you grow.

blobygon

Probably. I'll see what I can do.

blobygon

Absolutely amazing work!❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Suzy_D

really like the new update. would it be possible to have the blueberry's growth speed be adjustable?

Johnny boi

a small suggestion if I may, but is there a way for us to enable a similar sort of seamless swelling/weight gain?

Geoffrey

Awesome! Keep up the amazing work Blobygon!

Popparocksordonpatch

Based on what I've seen, maybe the best option to have a rolling option, is to make a 5th body type that switches out the wobbling for rolling but has to make major adjustments to the softbody mechanics. As for some suggestions, I would like to see how you deal with a river and if swimming would be a option. Maybe a fun mechanic you could add with swimming is a gulp mechanic. Where the fatty can drink the water/chocolate and swell up. And if they are a blob, they are just comically floating in the river due to how fat floats. Another mechanic that could be fun, but complex, is if you trigger the fatty to get stuck in the toob, then some workers will come out and either sing a song, or cause the toob to fill up and either push her out or she drinks it and breaks the toob. One last idea, maybe add a candy monster. It hides in the factory like a normal piece of candy. But when the player interacts with it, it traps the player and force feeds them candy of some kind until they become a blob. Anyhow, I'm glad to see these ideas in motion. I can't wait to see how you will further develop this game.

SlimeyJayStudio

o7 high lord of big makin

Dont

Probably only the blueberry body would roll. The other body types would stay as is. Perhaps some kind of rolling version of the round body could happen too, since that's basically what I'll be doing for the blueberry anyway.

blobygon

that idea of the character getting stuck in a chocolate pipe is fantastic and im super excited to see that implemented!!!!

clinko clinko

Either way super excited to see what you have in store!

Popparocksordonpatch

Amazed by the new level we get to runaround in! So from my understanding from the post is that The Sphere and Maybe the Tall body Type will have the new rolling mechanic in a future build, but limited soft body physics and the remaining two would have full soft body interaction?

Popparocksordonpatch

I like these ideas. Although the rope swinging might be tricky but perhaps I could do something similar.

blobygon

I should have clarified that I don't plan on removing softbody effects from any existing content. I would just exclude it from body types that can roll like the blueberry. I agree that different expressions/reactions to weight gain would be nice. I plan to do that eventually.

blobygon

There would still be softbody physics on the other body types. I'd only sacrifice it for any body types that can roll.

blobygon

Havent had an opportunity to play this yet though it looks wonderful. I second that losing the softbody physics would be a HUGE loss to this game. I'd suggest holding a poll on the matter.

MemeMarsh

Amazing work! However I have some very mixed feelings on the approach to rolling. As much as it would be really fun to having blueberry rolling in the game, I feel like sacrificing the squishy softbody effects is not worth it. Half of the enjoyment I feel myself and others get from this is how the softbody reacts to player movement and the world, watching the body ripple and squish more with more weight added upon it is the biggest thing I feel that makes this game unique. Losing that just for some rolling feel like neutering the game to a large degree. I know next to nothing about coding so please take my suggestion with a large pintch of salt (I'm not even sure if this would work at all) but maybe make two seperate models, one for normal fat stuff and the other for rolling, have the normal fat player model switch out when the blueberry transformation completes (When the poof transition happens when replacing character sizes). Or maybe make blueberry rolling into it's own level/minigame seperate from the other stuff. Yet again I'm not sure how hard this would be to impliment but It'd be an absolute shame if we lost the body physics that made this so great. Aside from that, I love the direction the game is going in. Would love to see after the cadyland stuff for there to be a bigger focus on character expression, like being able to make them moan or be excited during the weight gain rather than the default looking uncomfortable while it happens.

LordOfMeaty

Wonderful! A few suggestions for the game: Chocolate river/tube: Wouldn't be hot if she got stuck and the pressure forced chocolate inside of her, causing her to inflate, maybe even breaking the tube from the belly up from her swelling. Blueberry: Bigger. Much bigger. And some cartoonish popping to reset the weight would be so hot! Especially with some creaking sounds, moaning, and facial expressions like eyes crossing or buldging slightly like a cartoon when she's swelling to critical size. Enviroment: how about some nerd ropes to swing from or climb out of the chocolate river? The character: perhaps some clothing ripping effects in the future? Anyways, so far, this is amazing! Keep it up~
