Here's a look at some stuff I'm working on that will be coming soon in the next dev build. Firstly, the feeding tube is back by popular demand along with some new options for a liquid diet. So far I have chocolate, cheese sauce and lard, but I'm open to more ideas. So if you have any let me know in the comments.
Secondly, I'm getting the round body hooked up and animated so there will be another body shape option soon. I've been trying to get rolling to work in this physics engine, but so far I haven't found a good solution. For now, it will just have to waddle like the other body types.
While I'm on the subject, here's a behind the scenes look at the tech behind the blob physics. Every blob gets divided up into these particles which kind of act like squishy springs along the surface of the mesh. Inside it there's a simple skeleton that holds the positions of the hands, feet and head.
By animating the skeleton, the particles jiggle along with its movements. This is great for waddling since the surface particles like to follow the skeleton. However, it's terrible for rolling since the skeleton does not like to follow the particles. So if I roll the blob, the skeleton gets left behind which is no good. I'm going to keep trying other methods and hopefully I'll find a way eventually.
