“We’re all going to die if this continues!”
Someone stepped forward and shouted angrily. Faced with this life-or-death situation, they were ready to fight Ji Qingqing to the death.
Ji Qingqing’s expression was icy, but she knew that stopping them wouldn’t solve anything. She said coldly, “If you want to survive, help me pull them up!”
“Pull them up? That’s suicide! They’re too far away to save!” someone retorted furiously.
“If they die, we’ll all die together!”
Ji Qingqing refused to back down, forcing them to comply.
If she were alone, she would have already rushed down without hesitation to save them. But if she left, her presence, reinforced by her Dao Heart Realm, wouldn’t be enough to keep these people in check.
If the Abyssal Sky Monument was overturned, they would all perish.
“Don’t you want to live either?!”
Someone couldn’t help but roar, “At least we can save ourselves. Why should we sacrifice everyone?”
“It’s either pull them up or die together!”
Ji Qingqing’s gaze was frigid. She didn’t argue further, knowing every word wasted precious time. She simply gave them the choice.
The crowd seethed with anger, but no one moved. The chains swayed violently, and no one dared to step onto them lightly.
As they argued briefly, a sudden tremor came from below.
Prison Sky Island tilted again as tendrils from the blood lotus in the abyss reached for the chain Li Hao was climbing. One tendril grabbed the chain, while two more lashed directly at Li Hao and his companion.
Li Hao’s face darkened. With a roar, he activated his Divine Force and climbed at full speed.
But the suction force from the Blood Lotus Demon’s mouth was like a black hole, capable of uprooting mountains with ease. If not for Li Hao’s immense strength, he would have already been swallowed.
“Go!”
Li Hao shouted angrily as he pulled Ji Yun Yue forward and sprinted at full speed.
However, with over a thousand miles still to go before reaching Prison Sky Island, what would normally take mere minutes now felt like an impossible climb to the heavens.
“Child, leave me behind and go on your own.”
Ji Yun Yue suddenly released Li Hao’s hand. Clinging tightly to a link of the Abyssal Sky Chain, she shouted, “Don’t look back! Keep moving forward! As long as you hold out, the three ancestors will sense the commotion and come to help!”
Li Hao froze as his hand suddenly felt empty. He turned back to see the elderly woman who had always been kind to him, her face now filled with resolute determination and encouragement. His heart thudded painfully.
Emotion surged through him, but he suppressed it. He knew that turning back would betray her final wish.
Gritting his teeth, Li Hao climbed faster, his speed doubling.
Clatter!
Suddenly, the chain trembled violently.
The Blood Lotus Demon, which had been surging out of the abyss, abruptly paused and sank slightly. Thick chains resembling the Abyssal Sky Chain appeared behind it, binding it and preventing its escape from the abyss.
The blood lotus seemed enraged, whipping its tendrils more fiercely to pull at the chains while continuing its assault on Li Hao.
Tendrils lashed against the chain, sending vibrations and waves of friction toward him. Li Hao quickly climbed to the other side of the chain, hiding in the gaps between the links while activating his Supreme Technique to enhance his agility.
Though unsure if it would work, there was no other choice.
The foul-smelling tendrils grazed past him but failed to harm him. Li Hao exhaled in relief and continued climbing.
On Prison Sky Island, as the crowd watched the island sink further, someone finally snapped.
“All together now! Even if we die, it’s better than being killed by that Blood Lotus Demon!”
“Push over the Abyssal Sky Monument!”
More than a dozen people surged forward with what little strength they had left, charging at Ji Qingqing.
Ji Qingqing’s face changed drastically. She hadn’t yet found a solution, but these people had run out of patience. In this race against death, there was no time for strategizing.
“Over my dead body! No one will touch this monument!”
Ji Qingqing shouted furiously.
Her divine soul flared as she wielded her sword, launching an all-out attack.
On the swaying island, a fierce battle broke out. Ji Qingqing unleashed her ultimate techniques, sparing no energy as she struck continuously, slaying two and knocking seven others aside.
Her divine flames draped over her ethereal garment, making her appear like a commanding war goddess. She single-handedly protected the Abyssal Sky Monument.
Below the island, the Blood Lotus Demon loomed closer. On the chains, people desperately climbed for their lives. And atop the island, the battle raged among over a dozen combatants.
“No one is getting past me!”
Though her aura weakened, Ji Qingqing hadn’t yet used her Undying Force. She retreated to guard the Abyssal Sky Monument, her eyes cold and sharp as stars as she stared down the others.
“A bunch of foolish children.”
At this moment, the Mad Elder, crouched in the distance, laughed heartily. “You could all have lived, but you insist on courting death. Have you not realized the oddity of this Blood Lotus Demon? Its consciousness was erased by the ancestors long ago. What’s imprisoned here is merely its body.”
“Otherwise, if it truly attacked, none of you would even have the chance to argue—you’d already be dead.”
The crowd, panting heavily, found the Mad Elder’s laughter grating. Yet his words made them pause.
Indeed, although the Blood Lotus Demon was tugging at the chains, it was a creature of immense power. If it had truly acted, they wouldn’t have stood a chance.
“It’s dead?”
Someone shivered and voiced the question, though it sounded absurd even to them.
But beings of the Saint Realm were already beyond their comprehension.
Many turned to look at the Mad Elder, aware that he had lived for an extraordinarily long time, dating back to the time of the three ancestors.
The Mad Elder, noticing their gazes, chuckled even louder, making no further explanation. His expression was mocking and carefree, as if completely unconcerned about the swaying Prison Sky Island that was on the verge of being swallowed by the Blood Lotus Demon.
The crowd grew furious at his attitude, but his words left them pondering. Some began noticing the chains binding the Blood Lotus Demon and its inability to escape the abyss.
“I’ve got it!”
Suddenly, someone exclaimed excitedly.
Those who ended up as criminals often possessed intelligence above the average person—they had simply taken the wrong path.
“We don’t need to push over all three Abyssal Sky Monuments—just two will do! That way, the natural buoyancy laws of Prison Sky Island will straighten the remaining chain. The Blood Lotus Demon’s body isn’t long enough. At most, only one or two tendrils will reach us, and it won’t be enough to pull the island down!”
The speaker was thrilled as they explained their plan.
The others ran to the edge of the island to observe the terrifyingly beautiful face of the Blood Lotus Demon and its demonic tendrils.
Indeed, it had stopped rising, bound by chains pulling it downward. The chains seemed to fix its body at the center of the abyss, forcing it to stretch its body outward to reach the walls of the abyss.
With only one Abyssal Sky Chain left pulling Prison Sky Island, the island would straighten and drift to the edge of the abyss, perpendicular to the stakes anchoring the chain to the Abyssal Sky Peak below.
In that scenario, the Blood Lotus Demon could touch only a small section of the chain, reducing the risk of it pulling the island into the abyss.
This idea offered a chance of survival.
The group’s eyes lit up at this realization. If this plan failed, they could still cut the last chain and let Prison Sky Island ascend to face the scorching Holy Fire of the Sun.
Ji Qingqing was momentarily stunned. Hearing the proposal, she felt some relief. If they only toppled two Abyssal Sky Monuments, it might work.
“This time, you have no reason to stop us, right?”
Someone eyed Ji Qingqing nervously, worried she might lose her mind and insist on dragging everyone down with her.
“Go ahead.”
Ji Qingqing relented.
The others exhaled in relief, quickly dispersing to head for the other two Abyssal Sky Monuments.
Standing beside her, Nanny Ning turned her head and noticed something unusual on another chain—two figures climbing desperately.
“What’s that?”
Nanny Ning’s soul manifested, sharpening her vision. She immediately spotted two figures clinging to the chain.
Ji Qingqing heard her and focused her divine soul on the chain as well. Her pupils contracted in shock as she froze.
On that chain, about three hundred miles from the island, two figures were struggling to climb.
They were already close. Having traversed most of the several-thousand-mile Abyssal Sky Chain, they had only the last tenth left.
The suction force appeared weaker this close to the island. Their ascent was slow, but in four or five minutes, they would reach Prison Sky Island.
Ji Qingqing recognized the two faces instantly.
Her mind roared as if struck by lightning, leaving her dazed for a brief moment.
Li Tiangang!
Her husband!
Ji Yunqing, his uncle!
Ji Qingqing was stunned as if struck, her body trembling.
But in less than a second, she reacted. Her divine soul surged upward toward the Abyssal Sky Monument closest to that chain.
“Stop!!”
Sword light roared as it struck the ground in front of four people about to topple the monument.
The four were furious, shouting, “Are you insane?!”
“Wait until they make it up.”
Ji Qingqing’s divine soul trembled as she spoke.
She descended swiftly, landing in front of the monument. With her sword drawn, she stood guard, her back against the monument like an unyielding fortress.
The group grew angrier. “If we leave two Abyssal Sky Chains intact, it won’t help! The Blood Lotus Demon will still drag us down!”
“Give them time.”
Ji Qingqing gritted her teeth.
Her physical body turned to gaze at the two figures climbing with all their might. Tears welled in her eyes.
She never imagined Li Tiangang would appear here.
Earlier, when Nanny Ning had mentioned that Li Hao had come alone, Ji Qingqing had found it strange. Based on her understanding of Li Tiangang, he was highly responsible and would never let his son come here alone.
She had suspected some unknown reason but now realized he had come too. Nanny Ning’s information had simply been outdated.
“You fools… why must you always be so foolish…”
Tears streamed down Ji Qingqing’s face. She had warned him before—never step into the Ji family territory without first breaking into the Fourth Pillar Realm. Yet now, with a single glance, she could tell that Li Tiangang’s cultivation was only at the Reverse Fate Realm.
There was no doubt he had come to the Ji family fully prepared to die.
Just as he had once shielded her behind him, standing tall against a hall full of opposition.
A general who had always adhered to the law had, for her sake, broken his own principles for the first time...
Bang!!
