Align gimmicks (pistons, joints and rotator)

Hi, Alex again.

In this post I am going to show you how to align the gimmicks for scenes (it works for any scene)

What do you mean by "align"?

It is simple. I mean that both the pistons, joints and rotators are at the same "speed". I say it like this, because said speed (1.00) is not the same, but it is the default for all animations/gimmicks.

What are gimmicks?

Basically they are items that have the function of moving items and/or bones.

A very basic example of gimmicks would be pistons.

There are various gimmicks, but mostly pistons, rotator and joints are used.

How do they line up?

To line up the gimmicks, we'll use a bit of math.

Don't worry, it's simple, we'll use the V to name the Velocity.

So: V=Velocity

The default speed of all animation and gimmicks is 1.00.

So: V=1.00

For a normal/slow speed, the gimmicks have to be like this:

Pistons: V=1.00

Joints: V=3.00

Rotator: V=0.30

To align the pistons with the joints you have to multiply the speed of the piston by 3.

So: V 1.00  x 3 = V 3.00

Examples:

V 1.00 = V 3.00

V 2.00 = V 6.00

V 3.00 = V 9.00

To align the pistons with the rotator you have to multiply the speed of the piston by 0.3.

So: V 1.00 x 0.3 = V 0.30

Examples:

V 1.00 = V 0.30

V 2.00 = V 0.60

V 3.00 = V 0.90

In addition to using the normal pistons, you can also use the hooh pistons. The difference that the hooh pistons have is that the speed instead of being 1.00 is 1.20.

But you don't have to multiply the speed of the hooh pistons (1.20) with a joint or rotator, otherwise it will give you a different result.

Here is a simple example for everything:

Hooh Piston: V=1.20

Normal Piston: V 1.00 = V 1.20  -  V 2.00 = V 2.40  -  V 3.00 - V 3.60

Joints: V 3.00 = V 1.20  -  V 6.00 = V 2.40  -  V 9.00 = V 3.60

Rotator: V 0.30 = V 1.20  -  V 0.60 = V 2.40  -  V 0.90 = V 3.60

Here is a gif of how the gimmicks would be at a constant speed (aligned):

That is all!

I hope you have understood. This will be the first tutorial of many. It's not that it's very useful if you don't do animations, but if you like to watch scenes, I think it will be useful when changing the speed.

Although, I will do another post on how to change the speed in the animations and make it not look all linear.

Have a nice day. Enjoy.
