Chapter 281: Princess May’s “New Carriage”

In the Ingrima Empire, Charlot had surpassed the insurmountable Unreachable Class, and back in his homeland, his life was even more comfortable and well-connected.
As for High Priest Auguslatin, he was still in Britain.
When Charlot arrived in Britain, he immediately went to visit High Priest Auguslatin.
This esteemed High Priest, enjoying his time in Britain, seemed utterly unbothered about Fars. He was living a blissful life. On this particular day, he was seated in a carriage on his way to discuss church affairs with several local Radiant Priests when the carriage door suddenly opened. A young man barged in.
High Priest Auguslatin was startled to see Charlot and asked, “What brings you back to Britain?”
Charlot shrugged and replied, “Personal matters!”
“I know, High Priest, that you don’t care about wealth or glory, but here’s an opportunity to save the people of Fars. Surely you wouldn’t want to miss it.”
Though High Priest Auguslatin had his eccentricities, he was a genuine Saint rank individual.
In Charlot’s plan, this High Priest played a crucial role.
The moment the words “wealth” and “glory” left Charlot’s lips, the High Priest’s eyes lit up. “What opportunity?” he asked.
Charlot, with a pleasant smile, replied, “An ancient magical warship belonging to pirates is docked at a port several hundred kilometers away. I stumbled upon this information…”
The High Priest’s voice trembled as he asked, “Is this true?”
An ancient magical warship was of immeasurable value. If it belonged to pirates, it meant it had no legitimate owner, making it ripe for the taking.
Charlot confirmed, “Of course! I even stowed away on that very ship to arrive at the island of Britain.”
“And,” Charlot added, with a sly grin, “there’s no Saint rank aboard. In your presence, it’s as defenseless as an unguarded… pure virgin.”
The High Priest grew even more excited. But after a few minutes of enthusiasm, he paused and said thoughtfully, “Unless you can find another Saint rank, I won’t act.”
Charlot didn’t question the reasoning behind this condition but agreed immediately. “I can do that!” he said.
The High Priest gave him a knowing smile, the kind that seemed to conceal countless unspoken remarks.
Charlot planned to visit others for assistance, but before he could leave, the High Priest said, “Go to 698 Seventais Riverside Street.”
Charlot was startled. “Why go to 698?”
The High Priest, smiling mischievously, said, “Princess May returned from Fars and got herself a new carriage.”
Charlot suddenly had a bad feeling.
The High Priest confirmed his suspicions, adding, “It’s none other than your Dark Luxury.”
“Originally, the Grand Princess lived a reclusive life at 699 Seventais Riverside Street and rarely ventured out. Now, however, she goes to the bookshop almost daily and visits bookstores regularly. Every time she steps out, she rides in the Dark Luxury. All of Britain knows about it…”
Charlot stiffened. “What does this have to do with me?” he retorted stubbornly.
The High Priest patted him on the shoulder and said, “Perhaps you’re unaware, but Emperor Alfred Guillaume recently promoted you!”
“Charlot Mecklenburg, you are now a Level 23 Second-Class Civil Servant, Archivist of the Red Dragon Palace, and Literary Consultant of the Obsidian Spring Palace.”
This surprising news brought mixed feelings of joy and bewilderment. Charlot couldn’t fathom why the High Priest was connecting these events.
Seeing Charlot’s confusion, the High Priest dealt a final blow, smiling as he said, “Your promotion was justified as having ‘earned the Grand Princess’s favor.’”
Charlot blurted out, “Isn’t this just forced matchmaking?”
And it wasn’t just anyone orchestrating it—it was Emperor Alfred Guillaume himself, personally fanning the flames!
The High Priest didn’t understand what “forced matchmaking” meant but continued smiling as he said, “We’ve arrived at 699 Seventais Riverside Street!”
“Charlot Mecklenburg, I wish you the best of luck.”
“If you manage to find another Saint rank to join, I am at your disposal.”
Charlot stepped out of the carriage, feeling somewhat dazed. When he glanced at the small hill by the Seventais River, he hesitated…
Five minutes later, he was standing in the hall of 699 Seventais Riverside Street.
Even before Charlot could say a word, the door opened on its own.
It was Charlot’s first time visiting Princess May’s private residence. It resembled 698 in style—imposing and filled with books.
The Grand Princess, as always, was dressed entirely in black robes, her demeanor cool and aloof. She didn’t even offer Charlot a glass of water.
Since he was already there, Charlot decided to cut to the chase. “There’s an ancient magical warship belonging to pirates docked at a port several hundred kilometers away. It has no Saint rank aboard. I’m looking for a few people to seize it.”
Princess May was silent for a moment before asking, “Is it the Queen Bee?”
Charlot nodded. “Yes, that’s the one.”
The Princess replied, “You won’t be able to take it.”
Charlot was startled. “Why not?” he asked.
The Princess, still cool and composed, explained, “The Queen Bee’s control core is one of three golden rings. It’s currently in the hands of Herolf, the Golden Ram. Its containment vessel—a crystal vial—has long been lost.”
“With Herolf holding the golden ring, even if we destroy or sink the ship, as long as that Golden Ram summons it, the Queen Bee will return to Saint Michael Island.”
Charlot’s hands trembled with excitement as he pulled out a crystal vial and handed it to Princess May. “Is this it?” he asked.
Princess May touched the vial, removed the ring containing Dark Luxury, and returned it to Charlot.
Charlot’s earlier joy vanished instantly.
The Princess remained silent for a while but uncharacteristically offered an explanation. “Even if you take the Queen Bee, you won’t be able to keep it.”
“However, with my endorsement, no one will dare lay claim to it.”
Charlot’s rational mind told him the Princess was right. If he secretly seized the Queen Bee, all would be well. But with figures like High Priest Auguslatin and Princess May involved, many would soon learn that a legendary warship had fallen into the hands of a mid-level Transcendent.
If nothing else, the Fars Empire’s Central Government Office could issue an order, or Julius Axel might intervene, leaving Charlot in dire straits.
Even if the Queen Bee were nominally handed over to Senior Menielman Soumet, it wouldn’t deter the empire’s upper echelons from coveting it.
But with Princess May, there would be no problem. She was, after all, the aunt of Alfred Guillaume, the fifteenth emperor of the Ingrima Empire.
