Chapter 236: Summoning the Great Winds
Added 2025-01-31 14:06:01 +0000 UTCIn a short time, Charlot Mecklenburg had advanced by another rank, and the enhancement in his abilities brought about a transformation akin to a rebirth.
The two sides exchanged over a dozen moves, during which Charlot executed the 77 Movements of Heaven’s Wing flawlessly, fully showcasing the speed and precision of the Arsilo Family’s swift spear techniques.
The orc assassin, realizing after his initial failed attack that the assassination was now impossible, flipped off the city wall and shouted, “Though I can’t kill you myself, dying under the combined might of three Saint rank shamans should be enough of an honor!”
Charlot’s heart sank as he exclaimed, “Three Saint ranks?”
The orc assassin did not reply. Instead, he used the Swiftstep Technique, disappearing in a flash and rejoining the Southern Orc Tribes army.
As the residents of Silver Dove Castle cheered fervently, three figures ascended into the air. Soon after, a mighty gale swept across the heavens and earth. Billowing clouds of dust and sand engulfed the skies, blotting out the sun.
Charlot finally understood why the orc army had retreated. The three Saint rank orc shaman spellcasters unleashed a spell of devastating winds that spared no one, friend or foe. Thus, the orc army withdrew to avoid being caught in the destructive magic.
The winds summoned by these three Saint rank shamans were vast and mighty, shaking the very heavens.
In a place like the Behemoth Principality, such winds could never occur naturally. Only on the boundless ocean or in the infinite deserts could such brutal weather conditions arise.
The relentless wind carried a choking mass of sand and dust, advancing steadily. In less than half an hour, the entirety of Silver Dove Castle was buried. The wind persisted for half a day before the residual force of the shamans’ magic gradually subsided.
The orc army wasted no time. They had long since moved on.
The three Saint rank shamans, having completed their task, did not so much as glance back at the city. Each mounted the wild winds and caught up with the orc forces. Among the orcs, these shamans held an extremely exalted status. If not for the failure to take Silver Dove Castle after two consecutive days of siege, they would not have intervened.
After the storm, Silver Dove Castle was entirely buried under a sea of sand, leaving no trace of its once thriving waterways and intricate river systems. It had been transformed into a massive sand dune.
Typically, such a city, subjected to such annihilating force, would see its people utterly obliterated, leaving behind no signs of life.
About a day later, however, it appeared as though a funnel had formed beneath Silver Dove Castle. The sands that had buried the city began to flow away continuously, as if a massive, invisible hole in the ground was devouring the sand without end.
By dusk, Silver Dove Castle re-emerged on the horizon. The sand blown in by the winds summoned by the shamans had vanished without a trace.
Charlot appeared once more atop the city walls, his face still bearing an expression of fear. He could hardly fathom the immense power of the Saint rank shamans of the orcs, whose spells had wreaked such apocalyptic destruction.
He now roughly understood the orcs’ ultimate weapon against Strasbourg—their Saint rank shamans. They intended to summon winds and use the suffocating sand to annihilate Strasbourg entirely.
At this moment, there was not a single soul on the city walls of Silver Dove Castle aside from Charlot. However, when he lightly tapped his foot on the ground, it was as though life returned to the city. Soldiers of the West Wind Knight Order and residents of Silver Dove Castle began to reappear gradually. The city came back to life, and the familiar clamor filled the air once more. Known as the "Northern Cynes," the city regained its former splendor.
Almost no one understood what had happened. They only knew that the orc army had retreated, leaving them with joy and relief. No one thought to question why the storm had suddenly vanished.
In an ordinary city, such overwhelming power would have left no survivors. The city would have been buried under the sand, its population and civilization obliterated. But Silver Dove Castle, having undergone three stages of labyrinthification, was no ordinary city. At the most critical moment, Charlot had hidden all the residents in the third layer of the labyrinth.
By reversing the layers of the labyrinth, Charlot had concealed the buried city in the second layer. The Silver Dove Castle now visible was entirely unscathed, while the original city had been hidden.
Had the Saint rank shamans stayed even briefly to investigate, they would have discovered the truth, and the residents of Silver Dove Castle would have faced certain doom.
Charlot might have survived, given his Saint rank Transcendent abilities, but he would have been powerless to save anyone else.
Fortunately, the shamans’ overconfidence in their spells had provided Charlot with an opportunity. However, he knew that Silver Dove Castle would not have a second chance. If the orc shamans discovered the truth, they would undoubtedly return to completely destroy the city.
Charlot closed his eyes, unsure of what to do next.
In the end, he made a somewhat impulsive decision.
Charlot said to Anastasia, “Protect Silver Dove Castle for me. I must leave for a while.”
Against tens of thousands of orc troops, the West Wind Knight Order could do little. Yet Charlot felt compelled to return to Strasbourg to protect Annie. Though he knew that Annie was under the protection of Grandma Saint Karen, who was immensely powerful, he could not ignore his duty.
Charlot chose five captured and converted Redback Bear Tribe warriors to accompany him. Among them were Big Bear, Hundred Bears, and Honey Bear, as well as two other Transcendent Redback Bear warriors.
Charlot brought no one else. He wasn’t relying on the combat strength of these warriors but planned to use them to conceal his identity.
If he encountered human forces, he could reveal his true identity. If he encountered orcs, he could blend in with the five Redback Bear warriors without being recognized as human.
With his plan set, Charlot set off with the five warriors. Traveling light and unhindered, he caught up with the rear of the orc army after two days. To Charlot’s dismay, it became clear that the force attacking Strasbourg was far from the only one.
Along the way, he encountered at least five other orc armies, their banners stretching endlessly across the horizon.
Charlot had once believed that Strasbourg, though lacking in numbers, had sufficient Saint rank Transcendents to hold its ground. But faced with such overwhelming forces, he began to lose confidence.
The Southern Orc Tribes had clearly mobilized their entire strength, throwing everything they had into this campaign.
After weighing his options, Charlot decided to infiltrate one of the orc armies alongside Big Bear and the others. To disguise himself, he exchanged his weapon for a pair of meteor hammers, wrapped himself in animal hides, painted chaotic patterns on his face, and wielded orc weaponry. No orc suspected his identity.
The vanguard of the orc army soon clashed with the Royal Knights of Strasbourg in a skirmish. Both sides tested each other briefly before withdrawing, neither ready to commit to a decisive battle.
