Chapter 235: War Is the Most Efficient Way to Cultivate

The Redback Bear Warriors were tall and powerfully built, among the strongest types of orcs.

Charlot Mecklenburg had eighteen of these warriors under his command, so he was well aware of their prowess. Without hesitation, he pulled out his Anti-Space Long-Range Rifle, aimed at one of the Redback Bear Warriors, and pulled the trigger.

Although the Redback Bear Warrior was a mid-tier Transcendent, it couldn’t withstand the force of the Anti-magic Armor-Piercing Rounds and was blown apart by a single shot.

Charlot swiftly turned his rifle on a second Redback Bear Warrior. This one raised its warhammer in an attempt to block, but the armor-piercing rounds penetrated easily.

Without a top-tier weapon wielded by a master combatant, even high-tier warriors struggled to withstand the power of these rounds.

By the time Charlot had taken down his fifth Redback Bear Warrior, the orcs’ strongest fighters had already breached the walls of Silver Dove Castle, storming the battlements.

Charlot stowed his rifle and drew his Berserker Blade. Gripping it with both hands, he channeled his energy and dispatched two more of the bear warriors in quick succession.

When using the armor-piercing rounds, Charlot targeted only mid-tier Transcendents, maximizing the value of the expensive ammunition. But with his Berserker Blade, he focused on ordinary Redback Bear Warriors, conserving his energy.

This strategy ensured that his combat efficiency was maximized.

Even though these ordinary warriors lacked Transcendent powers, their sheer strength made them as deadly as their extraordinary counterparts when slaughtering regular soldiers.

As Charlot fought, his subordinates also joined the fray.

The presence of eighteen Redback Bear Warriors among the attackers caused unrest within the orc forces. They shouted loudly to their comrades, but these transformed Labyrinth Guardians no longer recognized their former kin.

The battle, while intense, lasted only a few dozen minutes before the Redback Bear Warriors retreated, leaping down from the walls.

Charlot moved quickly, incapacitating the injured warriors who remained on the battlements. He used his spear to deliver heavy blows, leaving them either gravely injured or unconscious.

At this point, he didn’t have the luxury of being merciful. All he could do was wait for Silver Dove Castle to complete its third labyrinth transformation and claim another batch of Labyrinth Guardians.

The orc army’s attacks were relentless, wave after wave, giving the defending West Wind Knight Order no time to rest. By nightfall, Charlot’s hands were so exhausted that he could barely hold his spear. But he had finally endured long enough for Silver Dove Castle’s third transformation to complete.

Charlot pressed his hand to the ground, initiating the transformation of all captives into Labyrinth Guardians.

Over a hundred orc warriors, who had infiltrated Silver Dove Castle but hadn’t perished in battle, rose shakily to their feet. One by one, they howled toward the sky, emanating an eerie aura.

While this bolstered the castle’s defenses, Charlot remained uncertain about its fate. The orc army outside was simply too vast.

He couldn’t understand why the orcs continued to attack piecemeal instead of launching a full-scale assault. If tens of thousands of orcs attacked at once, even a labyrinth-transformed Silver Dove Castle couldn’t hold out for long—it would have fallen by noon.

Charlot silently activated Blood Glory, channeling the sinister energy through his Blood Vortex to restore his stamina and energy reserves.

As the Blood Glory energy transformed into Stardust Battle Energy, a bottleneck in his cultivation loosened. With a slight push, the energy broke through, elevating him to the next tier.

Charlot took a deep breath, thinking to himself, “War truly is the most efficient way to cultivate, though it’s far too dangerous—life and death are on the line at every moment.”

Having reached the ninth tier of Transcendence, Charlot grasped his Berserker Blade once more and shouted, “Victory is ours! Silver Dove Castle will prevail!”

His declaration was met with resounding cheers from not only his West Wind Knight Order but also Anastasia’s Silver Dove Militia, the other knight orders, and the castle’s militia. Charlot’s reputation in Silver Dove Castle was unparalleled. He had led them to countless victories against the South Seraph restorationists, even slaying their leader Jonan. Compared to the fleeing Baron Febollet, Charlot was the true lord in the hearts of the people.

Pointing toward the horizon, Charlot proclaimed, “Tomorrow, we will drive the orc army away and restore peace to Silver Dove Castle!”

The residents erupted in even louder cheers.

Of course, Charlot couldn’t guarantee they would repel the orc army the next day. But he could evacuate the residents to Machubi Fortress Labyrinth, leaving behind an empty castle for the orcs to capture.

After a day of brutal combat, Charlot wasn’t confident in holding off the orcs’ all-out assault. The South Seraph restorationists had never commanded forces of this magnitude, nor did they field so many Transcendents.

The triple-labyrinth-transformed Silver Dove Castle was sufficient to ensure the residents’ evacuation while inflicting some losses on the invading army.

Charlot quietly considered his next move. He had no one to consult. Neither the West Wind Knight Order nor the Silver Dove Militia had anyone proficient in strategy. Discussing tactics with Dubin, Yellow Bear, or Anastasia would be futile.

The burden of leadership fell entirely on Charlot.

He waited patiently through the night. At dawn, the orc army resumed their siege.

This time, Charlot avoided holding the battlements and instead lured the orcs into the castle, using the labyrinth’s defenses to repel attack after attack.

By afternoon, Charlot had repelled the orc forces twenty-one times. Then, a cheer arose from the defenders.

“Look! The orcs are retreating!” someone shouted.

Charlot peered into the distance and saw banners from several orc clans moving toward Mostar Castle. He exhaled a sigh of relief. Whatever their reasons, the orc army retreating was good enough for him.

At that moment, as Charlot’s guard dropped, a spiked hammer flew toward his head.

Reacting instantly, Charlot deflected the hammer with his Berserker Blade. His spear clashed against the weapon, neither side gaining an advantage. With lightning speed, Charlot counterattacked, unleashing twenty-eight consecutive strikes.

The orc assassin, confident in the perfect timing of his ambush, was caught completely off guard by Charlot’s swift reaction and relentless strikes.

Despite having spent two or three decades honing his skills to perfection, the assassin lacked the natural talent of warriors like Charlot, Hughes, or Ban Lamorak. His strength, built painstakingly over time, had reached its peak long ago. Without innate brilliance, there was no room for further growth.
