Chapter 213: A Very Distant Grudge

Well, by common sense, no matter what the object of veneration was, people should be above it.

Charlot considered Princess May’s imposing aura for a moment. Suddenly, he thought, perhaps being beneath her was acceptable.

The posture didn’t matter.

The commanders of the two Byron Empire magical alchemy warships weren’t entirely sure what the Ingrima forces were up to. They did, however, recognize James Cook. After all, young officers of his rank—high-level Transcendents and captains of magical alchemy warships—numbered fewer than twenty across the Five Great Empires combined.

This was basic intelligence that none of the Five Empires would lack.

As Princess May maneuvered near the two Byron magical alchemy warships, one of them fired a projectile. With a subtle twist, Princess May dodged the alchemical shell, which lacked precision due to the long distance.

The alchemical shell fired by the Transcendent-grade magical alchemy cannon exploded midair. Although it was still far away, Charlot’s hair stood on end. In a low voice, he said, “Princess May, we can retreat now.”

The Grand Princess replied coolly, “How could we leave without retaliating?”

Before Charlot could respond, he felt the rush of wind in his ears as Princess May dove sharply and hurled him toward one of the magical alchemy warships.

Freed from the burden of Charlot, the Grand Princess unleashed a surge of battle energy, transforming into a pink comet as she charged toward one of the Transcendent-grade magical alchemy cannons.

Two Byron Saint-rank vampires scrambled into the air to intercept her. Each Transcendent-grade magical alchemy cannon was extraordinarily expensive, requiring materials and techniques far beyond what personal Transcendent weapons could match.

If Princess May destroyed even one, the loss would be devastating.

Charlot never expected to be tossed onto an enemy warship.

He hastily drew the Unicorn Griffon, and with a flash of his blade, cut down two Byron naval soldiers who rushed at him.

“I must have offended the Grand Princess!”

“Honestly, staying on the warship and telling her stories wasn’t so bad. What’s wrong with being exploited a little? With so many web novels in the world, I could recite one opening per day and still have plenty left after a year or two. If those run out, I could always turn to world classics!”

“Why did I complain? Why didn’t I appreciate the blessing I had?”

Charlot muttered to himself while fighting desperately. He was giving it everything he had since the entire crew of the magical alchemy warship was converging to attack him.

Fearing being shot at or surrounded, Charlot dared not stop moving. Activating Swiftstep Technique and Spider Technique, he darted around the warship like a madman. His mastery of Arsilo Swordsmanship displayed dazzling brilliance, with sword light blooming in a riot of colors.

Even during the siege under Silver Dove Castle, when he single-handedly killed Jonan, Charlot hadn’t felt such intensity.

At least back then, the wilderness around him offered countless escape routes. Now, trapped on a magical alchemy warship, his space to maneuver was severely limited.

This warship had not only a high-level Transcendent but also seven or eight mid- and low-level Transcendents on board.

This battle was the most perilous and exhilarating fight Charlot had faced since his transmigration.

Brandishing the Unicorn Griffon, Charlot clashed with a Byron officer who met his strike with a sword of his own. After exchanging one blow, Charlot failed to kill his opponent and immediately used Swiftstep Technique to leap to the lower deck.

Alone, Charlot knew that if the Byron forces surrounded him, he’d last no more than a dozen moves before being beaten to death. He dared not engage anyone for too long.

The entire crew of the Byron magical alchemy warship seemed to go insane. None of them had anticipated that a lone human would board their ship and launch such an attack.

Charlot used the Mask of the Cat to disguise himself as James Cook. While his energy was not of the oceanic type, and his swordsmanship lacked Ingrima’s stylistic hallmarks, his ferocity made it clear that only a captain-level Transcendent could pull off such feats.

Though some suspected him, no one had time to think deeply. All they could do was focus on eliminating Charlot.

From a distance, James Cook watched as Princess May threw Charlot onto the enemy warship. Alarmed, he worried for Charlot’s safety but soon noticed another Byron warship accelerating toward the Titanic Whale.

In an instant, James Cook realized the opposing captain believed he was absent and sought to destroy his warship.

A magical alchemy warship’s combat effectiveness was worlds apart with and without its captain. The enemy wanted to capitalize on James Cook’s presumed absence to crush the Titanic Whale.

After a brief hesitation, James Cook made a decision. Setting aside his concern for Charlot and Princess May, he commanded the Titanic Whale to slow down, seeking a location suitable for a one-on-one battle with the Byron warship.

Meanwhile, Charlot continued to fight with blood and sweat, unsure of how many he had slain. Wounded in six or seven places, he had no choice but to keep fighting. Escape was impossible, and he lacked the energy even to curse the Grand Princess.

Swinging the Unicorn Griffon, Charlot’s blade swept horizontally but was parried by another Byron officer. Activating Swiftstep Technique, Charlot tried to evade but coughed up blood, his injuries catching up with him. The officer’s precise swordsmanship pressed him relentlessly, leaving Charlot in a desperate situation.

Even as he struck down six or seven more sailors, another wound opened on his body. When Charlot thought all was lost, a delicate hand descended from above, grabbing him and lifting him into the sky.

Princess May flew upward, her battle energy blazing as she slashed backward, forcing the two Byron Saint-rank vampires to retreat.

The warship Charlot had battled on began to follow. While Saint-ranks could fly, they couldn’t sustain it indefinitely and required periods of rest to recover energy. The warship had to stay close for the Saints to return and recover.

To the Byron forces, their Saint-ranks could rotate back to the warship, but the Grand Princess couldn’t. They believed they could eventually wear her down.

Gasping for breath, Charlot felt utterly drained. The previous fight had consumed his Blood Glory to the brink of exhaustion. As he panted, he heard Princess May’s calm voice.

“You admire Menielman?”

Startled, Charlot didn’t understand why she brought this up but answered instinctively, “Senior Menielman is my idol.”

Princess May chuckled lightly and asked, “Do you know why I became a widowed princess?”

Charlot had no idea. Before he could respond, Princess May said, “My husband was killed in a duel by Menielman’s fiancé, the infamous Zimourman Axel Robin.”

“Now you know why I threw you down there?”
