No Hanno this week...

Spent way too much time learning the abilities of the 'golden child' render engine, Iray in Daz3d. I keep getting told I have to move on, and have been black-listed by HF until I swap over to the render engine they prefer (yeah, I still have the email).

Both pictures were rendered using the exact same set up, absolutely no difference in the models, lighting, or camera.
Render time for 3Delight, less than 5 minutes, Iray over 2 hours.
On the surface, Iray looks better and brighter. But then you see there is no shadow coming off the lantern in Iray, the image is washed out (no real contrast) and shadows are nearly non-existent.
3Delight drops to black instantly on the edge of the main spot giving a key-hole appearance, strong shadows on the lantern but very weak light (the blue from the door is nearly gone. The shaders are also nice bonus with Iray, the ground shows good bump mapping which is absent in 3Delight.

Hanno and Pryia probably cannot make the transition to Iray meaning I'll need to  flip to a new story line but my girls have tonnes of those scattered throughout the house. It will be impossible to render animations in Iray as well because of the massive time hit.

I'll probably just give up and move to Iray. It's ugly, terrible to work with and very unpredictable...but everyone loves the bright yet blurry images that come out of it.

I will begin testing Hanno this weekend and should be able to continue the current story OR begin a new one in Iray next friday.
