Shogun 3D Sculpt

Here's that weird mech some of you like, the Shogun.
Design by me, sculpt by Alan Blackwell.

I still think it looks funky, but what we have now is certainly an improvement over the myriad of old designs with their wide range of proportions.

What do the Shogun fans think?

Also, is part of the designs popularity that it's got a pretty decent loadout? Or is it your sick attraction to the egg mechs? :D

I'm impressed as always - you somehow kept a part of the original I hated but was iconic, but changed it so its still recognizable and looks good. In this design it was the pot belly, hips, and feet. The torso still looks similar with the large curved slope to the front, without going overboard. The feet just look better while retaining the wideness. The hips are the best improvement - they are still wide and not tucked into the torso, but the curvature and thinner lowee torso make it look much more aesthetically pleasing. A+

Much appreciated. I do like mercs - in a way, it feels like they open up mech selection. I feel more comfortable taking 'factional' mechs like the Dragon or Enforcer in a mercenary company than in a non-matching house unit. But I don't feel comfortable doing that with Wolf's Dragoons mechs. They're not only factional, they're also rare.

Carlos Sempere

Much better , now I can flesh out some wolf’s dragoon’s .

I think mercs just tend to be the easiest point of entry, right? Like, one of the hurdles of getting into 40k and many other modern wargames is figuring out who you want to play: model aesthetics, color schemes, rules, narrative ideologies... all that can factor into the enjoyment of a specific wargaming faction. BT has a nice "out" because most people see mercs as "play with anything from anyone FOR anyone!", despite the truth being a little more narratively restrictive. Regardless, it's a great way to introduce people into a setting without requiring them to know much about who's who, or without being narratively tethered to the canon story (the first time I painted up a lance for a specific unit, that unit was destroyed during the Jihad, and that was disheartening). That said, while I'm DEFINITELY not complaining about the inclusion of these Dragoon-iconic mechs, I do find it odd when they make it into generic force packs. Do you know if the intent is to narratively loosen availability in earlier eras over time? Like we've seen with the Marauder II and Annihilator? I'd love to actually field a Shogun in a Draconis Combine force without having to rely on "salvage". Always bugged me that a mech named "Shogun" didn't originate with the Combine... =P

I told the bosses they need to stop the focus on Mercs that every BT IP holder has been doing lately. Limits the selection when people want faction stuff.

More useable stalker, ahoy!

Great work. The round shapes would allow for nice looking planes of light. Also, there are panels that look big enough for decals. Well done!

I think it looks funny from a low angle, like a big head with arms and legs. Like a JagerMech III. But it’s great from higher up (so, on the tabletop) - the cockpit looks mean, more like a sleek head on an armored body than eyes on a head. I’d rather limited-availability mechs like this one and the Marauder II were sold in Wolf’s Dragoons forcepacks (or some other merc company) rather than generic lance packs. Conversely, the Sagittaire feels more like a house mech than a mercenary mech. I would’ve swapped them.

Imp next, pls and thank ;)

It’s like a Sentinel Orion thing.. l was never a Shogun fan but this looks 20x better than the old stuff.

I think this is actually pretty dope! Usually not a big fan of lrm hands but overall I dig it

Always been an odd--and oddly effective--duck of a 'Mech. I'm at least partially of the opinion that it's supposed to be paired up with an Annihilator.

John Kraemer

Much better. My love for it came from the fact that it was a mysterious "lost" SLDF design that even they didn't get to deploy very much. And yeah, the loadout was decent. Now I need one with "SHO 'NUFF!!" stenciled on the torso. :)

Mitchell Berthelson

Ah the Shogun. Proving that the Wolf's Dragoons really did have Plot Armour in the times long long ago.

The DRT

So much better than the Original! Great work!
