Marauder II Lineart

Been a while since did any lineart myself, back when finishing off the Awesome, Commando, and Catapult for the GoAC box.
All our KS mechs need to be inked up not just for the KS project, but also the new Recognition Guides coming out, so we're working away on quite a bit.

The Marauder II had a slightly different design process which caused it to lack a more subtle reference sketch/art, making it hard for an artist to know which 3D model details/seams to size down. Especially now, our models have very exaggerated details to make sure they cast well. A lot of giant double/triple/quadruple edged model seams should only be a single line in a lineart piece.

Just so happens even before I reassigned this one to myself I'd set it up to have a powered down pose for the lineart, so that was fun to take on, and I decided to add some people.
I think this setup really helps sell the scale of things, as even decent terrain scale indicators can still leave it hard to make a mental connection on size.
Cool detail about this is now that we have all these mechs in a scaled 3D scene, I was able to easily grab a generic 3D human figure, set their scale to match by the numbers, and boom, perfectly sized humans with zero guess work. Best of all it looks right.

Anyway, enjoy! Hope the Marauder II looks a little more appealing in this form.

Gorgeous work, man! Absolutely stunning!!!!!

Battlemechs with scale?? HERESY!

Joe Wright

Should be renders of it on here and the KS page. Though we don't have it in plastic yet.

Anthony Scroggins

Alright Anthony, I am now excited to see this in 3D form, I was a bit worried for my ride. Next we meet I will need a signed copy of this one!

That's a good point, thank you for the response. I can definitely see where you are coming from. In my head canon, an Atlas is ~12m tall, but that number can be easily varied due to how many 'air pockets' are within a chassis, etc. So I can definitely see how it'd be somewhat of a touchy subject to address.

DanGar approved.

Me too!

Sapphirus

Fantastic line art. Really nicely showcases the "Titan" vibe of a 'Mech like this. Looks great, Anthony.

Brent Evans

Love this one to bits! The sense of scale is great. Would love to see Marauder IIC done in the same style

Alexei Lundgard

This line art is fantastic. The walls and astechs are a perfect touch. Brings a touch of scale and realism to the image. More of the line are needs to include this. Line an infantryman, battle armor, or vehicle near the โ€˜Mech. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

They're supposed to be, though the first one included old Pack Hunter art. Guess they couldn't wait the bit extra for our redesign to come. The first one out has 7 mechs: 2 GoAC redos, 1 new mech, 1 phoenix re-redo, 2 KS redos, 1 old.

Anthony Scroggins

Aw man this rules! Are the recognition guides going to be all new art?

It's my personal opinion that sometimes even easy to figure out stats should be left vague so that you're not locked into them. Clearly previous canon mentions of size haven't done the setting favors :D But yes, technically right now I can know to actual size of every mech we've completed. If CGL decides to come out with new numbers they'll want to be sure they're super confident in them, as they'll immediately have backlash from all the grogs that hate all retcons no matter how sensible they are. Then those new numers will be scrutinized and referenced for eternity any time something is wrong :)

Anthony Scroggins

reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! ur rong, Colonel Sanders! PPCs all have giant tube barrels! Cuz... uh... reasons! ;) (aight... I'll try to behave now. Wouldn't want to piss off customers to bad... though I bet the ones in question aren't patrons, lol)

Benjamin Myers (Bishop Steiner)

Awe that's hot, that's real hot! So if all mechs are to scale with each other, and you were able to add human figures to the scene for scale, is there a chance we'll see canon heights for mechs announced? Scale has always been one of my pet peeves with BT

PPCs are a good case of let the artists do whatever. Some have a big lens, some have a multi emitter, some do the spike cone.

Anthony Scroggins

Techmanual I dunno. But TRO type stuff yes.

Anthony Scroggins

How dare there be a laser emitter lense in your PPCs! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Sorry. Comments were way to positive, so I figure I'd manufacture some outrage... even though the only practical PPCs built.... have a laser emitter because the laser creates the channel for the particle flow to follow.... Plus it will be entertaining if any halfwits try to "WELL AKSUALLY!" me about particle projection cannons. Good piece.

Benjamin Myers (Bishop Steiner)

Hey alright! Does this mean a potential new Tech Manual in the future?

Tyler Erickson

I doubt we'll ever do it because the original art was silly enough to not remove the top gun anyway. We could give it a center line top LL though.

Anthony Scroggins

Very nice, if Iron Wind gets around to doing the 4A I could see that a chin turret Large laser would really fit nicely! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Robert Moore

Haha, do you mean the most recent KS update? Randall pointed out that was an assembly issue that will be fixed, so it was a little silly to see so many people angry in the comments section. I think the intended pose for this one has been shown.

Anthony Scroggins

Fantastic looking piece of art!!! I hope with the actual model they don't pose it like a retarded chook dancing on a hot plate, like they have with some of the other models I've seen recently...

Danny

This new art is every bit as awesome as stuff that blew me away and got me hook on Battletech back in the 80s. I find my self being draw into the picture. Keep it up!

Dan Hegarty

Very cool. Gives a nice impression of scale, and helps make it seem bigger then the standard Marauder
