Mongoose Concept Sketch

Bishop has been nudging me daily to post this one so that y'all can talk about it haha.

The Mongoose is a tricky one because it has a very unique look that can't easily be tossed without it losing everything that makes it recognizable. At the same time, I personally find it quite ugly :P
So I set out with Bishop to see how well we could push the design without going the easy nuclear option of switching it to a primarily angular design.

This look here passed the gauntlet, coming out about equally preferred to the angular option I submitted.

So, yee few Mongoose fans out there, how did the man do?

my favorite recon/ light command mech. she looks great. now all i need is some Talons to ho with it.

Jeffery Smith

looks kind of cute for a mech. dunno something about the legs and "bunny ears" antennae.

James Abbot-Cole

I'm not personally a fan of the mech, but this looks way better than the old one and I am glad it maintains its distinctive look. Also, the legs are incredible, and I am glad I am getting a copy just for that element alone.

Ryan de Haas

The slight change in proportions has done wonders for the design without having to sacrifice much of its original character. I always felt that the original looked like two different mechs stuck together. There is a better fit between the upper half and the lower half now.

Nyxus

The rounded look is a lot nicer than just going for angles all the time.

I really like what you guys have done here - Other versions reminded my of a 'mech on clown stilts - This one looks like the front half of a centaur chasing you down, in a good way! A very cohesive improvement over legacy while preserving the overall aesthetic.

I REALLY like this design! Much better than some other versions.

I really like it, and the Mongoose is a top 5 light mech for me. Great work Bishop!!!

this seems to be a good compromise. I am a big fan of this mech. I think it looks great. I am a little curious what the more angular design looked like.

That's because it's not a Mongoose Gunslinger? ;)

Benjamin Myers (Bishop Steiner)

I think you did well on this one.

James Hauserj

Reminds me of a centuar somewhat.

Charles Lubanje

I LOVE all the 2750 designs so I think this Mongoose is great! Nice job!

Todd W

I like it a lot. I was always tepid on the Star league mechs, but all these designs for them are bangers

Joe Wright

Keeping it's distinctive look while removing the cartoonish silliness that always plagued this design was a tall order, but you totally crushed it! I raise my glass to you Ben. Cheers!

Kanrei13

That's fetch.

wiski

It's not bad. But it's no Mongoose Gunslinger.

Tyler Erickson

The puckered lips will always be weird, but it's great depiction and I like the idea of keeping a lot of 2750 mechs curvy. Love the detailing. Legs look a bit big, though; I feel like I'm looking at a centaur instead of a satyr. But... I trust you guys to get the proportions right once it's modeled.

Carlos Sempere

Aww man I had to close my eyes before clicking that link. The Mongoose is my absolute favorite mech from TRO 2750. Happy to say I love it! The center cockpit glass took a bit to get used to for me, but it works. The indents on the sides of the cockpit glass were a perfect touch. It keeps the unique "eyes" of the original, while updating to a more realistic cockpit. I am not a fan of the gunslinger version, but you've blended that version with the original quite nicely. The legs are awesome, the weapon pods are spot on, and the head still has that angry jack rabbit look to it. The lower left and right torso's might look better with a smooth round armor plate there, but it looks so good as is, I can't actually decide which I would like better. Great job man. I can't wait to get a few of these on the table.

much as I love my Urbies, obviously as a general purpose mech.... they have their flaws. Mongoose has been my fave "all around" Light since I got my grubby teenage hands on TRO 2750 in 88 or 89. So a solid decade + before my Urbie fixation began.

Benjamin Myers (Bishop Steiner)

Really love this , she;s still smooth and rounded and is a vast improvement over the original design

Steven Cross

Absolutely incredible job! This looks great!

Damn , I would call this one a home run . One of my fav light mechs, I'm going to need a lance of these . Good job Bishop .

Charles granger

Perfecto!

Really dig the leg design, makes it look like it can go super fast.

That was my first directive for it haha.

Anthony Scroggins

This was the one I was waiting for. Definitely takes more influence from the Gunslinger Mongoose which happens to be my favorite Battletech model!

YES! YES! YES!

didn't pass muster with the PTBs. After it's "cleared" I'll be posting the early concept stuff on my Patreon page.

Benjamin Myers (Bishop Steiner)

I love the Mongoose. I think it's an excellent-looking mech, and I was actually a little skeptical that it was included in the Kickstarter when it could've been, say, a legitimately ugly or bleh-looking mech like the Dervish or the Whitworth. I understand it fit into the SLDF/ComStar themed packs, but why redesign what already looks good? That said, this looks GREAT. It is, as you said, everything that makes the Mongoose recognizably what it is. The weird digitigrade legs, the blocky over-arm lasers, the big center torso laser, the point face with "ears", the "grumpy" look, the rounded body panels... it's clearly the Mongoose, just updated for the more contemporary high-detail look that the other mechs are getting. Great job. Definitely keeping this one.

Robert Schuster

After comparing to the old one I like it. I really look forward to seeing the 3D render. Well done to you both! 👍

Robert Moore

I love this ! With the possible exception of the face /eyes , I was hoping to see a bit more ccg mongoose

I never really liked the mongoose before but this makes me want to field it just based on looks alone. I think you both nailed the design while keeping it similar to what came before.

That looks awesome!

Special Mongoose! Great update there; keeping the essentials of the original while improving it across the board
