Sales Taxes
Added 2020-06-02 02:05:38 +0000 UTCThis month Patreon started charging patrons part/all of their State local sales tax on their pledge.
Anyone want to give some insight on how that looked on their end?
Were you charged any extra?
It seems like I had a bit of a dip on my end but not much. It may be all deducted on my end, not sure.
I believe the way I itemized by patron benefits reduces what is taxed.
Anywhoo, how goes?

2020-07-02 15:02:20 +0000 UTCThe email I got said something about 10% GST (that's what we call the sales tax in Australia) applying from 1 July. It also said that it would not exceed a maximum of 0.50 cents. Anyway, doesn't matter, I am happy to pay the tax, this Patreon is more than worth it.
2020-06-09 03:54:17 +0000 UTCAs much as it's nice to think otherwise, and yes this is mostly a "donate" platform, I am providing a service to my followers in ways. Patrons can also redeem copies of my art book, which is a product.

2020-06-03 03:20:11 +0000 UTCSales taxes? For what? You're not selling us anything. We're not buying anything from you!

2020-06-02 18:33:16 +0000 UTCAye. But while I'm used to some variance, my earnings dropping $20 this month is more than the norm. The income tracking pages were also implying some weirdness.

2020-06-02 12:23:44 +0000 UTCThe sales tax isn't collected until July 1, not June 1. It's also collected from Patrons, not deducted from pledges. All of this is in the FAQ. :P

2020-06-02 12:07:14 +0000 UTCLet me quickly add, I happily pay the tax. The fact that Patreon is suddenly charging this, will not in any way impact my choice in keeping up this subscription. Taxes could double and I’d still pay.

2020-06-02 11:21:22 +0000 UTCIn Denmark all services are levied a 25% VAT, including my Patreon subscriptions. So no change here.

2020-06-02 09:06:07 +0000 UTCI got a notice from Patreon today saying effective July 1st some pledges could be taxable. Otherwise, my pledge bill this month is unchanged. If they’re taking it out of your end, let us know - I’ll up my pledge.

2020-06-02 04:58:30 +0000 UTCNo Dervish yet, though I did paint one up many years ago.

2020-06-02 04:04:43 +0000 UTCAt least States do a bit better with efficiency and representation. This isn't a Fed tax. And IMO if we're gonna be angry that big corps evade taxes, we need to be willing to hunker down and pay our own too. If they did start this month, I managed to keep them minimal.

2020-06-02 04:04:14 +0000 UTCNo it was still 2 bucks. Off topic for a minute, are you or have you done the Dervish mech for the miniature yet?

2020-06-02 03:15:42 +0000 UTCNo changes for me this month. Total BS though. Just another gimmick to nickle and dime everyone. With the amount of waste this government has, there is no reason for more taxes at all.

2020-06-02 02:52:40 +0000 UTCMy calculator jumped up $30 at midnight, then ended up dropping $20 instead of gaining when charging was done lol.

2020-06-02 02:45:28 +0000 UTCPretty much just the US I think. There are ways here for online sales to avoid state taxes, they're ending that for patreon.

2020-06-02 02:45:21 +0000 UTCMine looks good, I read the email from Patreon though and it seems only certain pledges or if a pledge is over a certain amount they will charge tax on it.
2020-06-02 02:42:52 +0000 UTCIt's because, while they're still being fairly benevolent towards the idea of donating money, patreon is a place where physical and digital products are being sold as part of that transaction. States are wanting their semi-rightfull piece of the pie. If we're mad about Amazon dodging taxes, we can't exempt our own online endeavors.

2020-06-02 02:40:38 +0000 UTCNo extra charges for me.

2020-06-02 02:36:18 +0000 UTCI'm in Canada. No taxes this month or any previous month - exactly $2 USD.
2020-06-02 02:29:29 +0000 UTCI ...can't tell. Nothing ever adds up to what Patreon says it's going to anyhow. I actually seemed to end up with...5$ more than it said I would?

2020-06-02 02:18:52 +0000 UTCI just checked, no difference this month. But i already payed the VAT (19% for me in germany) since at least half a year (checked old receipts) so maybe this just applies to some countries?

2020-06-02 02:16:41 +0000 UTCI don’t think it takes effect until July.

2020-06-02 02:12:51 +0000 UTCMy state doesn't have sales tax. Also confused how this could be subject to sales tax?

2020-06-02 02:08:03 +0000 UTCZero increase on my end this month.
2020-06-02 02:07:30 +0000 UTCIn Indiana, I didn't get hit with sales tax
