Viper Concept Sketch

Everyone welcome Harri Kallio to the mech design crew. He's fairly well known as Bradigus online, having done a lot of his own mech redesign sketches in the past, and a bunch of MWO based meme images. I recruited him for his first official work in the Shattered Fortress book and he churned out the best illustrations of the lot for it.
The next big hit? I'm training the lad up on emulating my recent design style and having him contribute to the Clan mech redesign pool.
First to show is the Viper, and for a good reason. We want to know which of these 3 left arm variations you guys prefer. I guess from left to right they scale from "least offensive" to "most faithful."
-Symmetric arms and under slung weapons.
-Symmetric arms but over/under guns.
-Asymmetric arms featuring an upper arm that matches what an Ice Ferret would share.
Thoughts?
I will join the Asymmetric arms train. It is a great redesign. It is the first time I see a Viper and it looks menacing

That's much better. The viper is an awesome mech, but the original jagged chin design made it look a little silly.

Asymmetric arms for me, please.

Underslung all the way!

Congrats to Bradigus! I've always loved his work.
Also the Dragonfly is quite nice. The second missile launcher is best.

Underslung for sure. I wouldn't mind either way for the upper arm geometry, but the launcher looks like it would get in the way on top.

I'd have to see it in 3D/a few angles to make a solid judgement - but I say far right. I always feel (balanced) asymmetry is so much more exciting visually.

I’d vote for the left one too.

I prefer the one on the left

Welcome to Harri from my side as well. And I prefer the first choice...even if the old one was asymetrical. Great your doing that many Mechs...looking forward to buying a lot with the KS and afterwards. 😁

I like 'em in how they are show, the under the arm makes the most sense as the SRM does not block any mobility there and has the widest arc of fire, on the top of the arm not only does it complicate things by having to get the exhaust venting out the sides, bit the Mech's 'bicep' and upper arm are then in the way. Amazing picthre though none the less! :D

I am a firm believer in taking advantage of the Omnimech concept and allowing some configs to have asymmetrical arms. in the case of the Viper here, I am agnostic on the Prime. Traditionally it had asymmetric arms but from a manufactures standpoint it makes sense that it's "Primary" Configuration would have symmetry. flip a coin as far as I am concerned.
THAT SAID! I prefer the Missile Rack on the side and the lasers underslung

I prefer the first from left option...symmetrical left arm with under-slung weapon pod. The second option with the weapon pod mounted on the upper arm looks like it would severely limit the movement of the arm and the third option...although asymmetric arms work well for some Mechs, I don't think it does for this one...welcome Harri Kallio!!!

I like them from best to least in the order they are presented. Keep up the great work!

I personally like symmetric/underslung. Been playing for 30 years, but that's also long enough to see times change and to want a breath of fresh air.

I feel the first option of having the weapons be under slung is the best option for the Viper. I would love to see your take on the Hunchback too. I'm sure you'd hit it out of the park like everything else.

You know, I really don't know what I want... the missile launcher above the fist looks good too. Decisions, decisions...

Hmmm... I kind of like the "forward/ on top" look as being the least generic take. It's like the jenner's backwards legs or Alex's King Crab or Griffin having "backwards" feet... IMO it gives em character and removes the generic gundam feel that is so easy to fall in to.

I personally like the arms in the order they appear, first being best, second being not bad, and third being meh in my opinion. I feel like the first two just have a better, more modernized look to them.

At least if we don't use the Ferret arm, it uses a Nova based arm.
Hardline "sharing parts" is more giving way to "looks easy to weapon swap", in the name of good visuals.

Hips will go on all mechs, more love it than hate it, I know I'm crushing dreams here :P
Though just like the Nova, this will be an easy chop fix if you don't like hips.

I would like to put a vote in for the asymmetrical look (because I always thought of the Viper Prime as having that specific look—isn't that kind of the point of OmniMechs, that they share components?).
I'd say *either way*, the right arm barrels should be underslung (as pictured above on the left).

I guess the "no torso twist" quirk was missed?

I like the under slung.

I like the underslung and offset.
2019-06-26 00:17:41 +0000 UTC
With so many Clan mechs being pushed out all at once. Gotta balance with some more IS stuff :)

We will also have to see what the upper managers think of that option. Most faithful, least aesthetic.
Anthony Scroggins

Yeah while I'm fairly neutral on the options, to new players the full symmetry look will be more easily digested and sturdy looking.

Strong preference for underslung weapons on both sides, slight preference for the boxier arm look.

So, apparently you are doing all invasion Clan (omni)mechs. Nice! Can I expect the Huntsman (and maybe Night Gyr, Fire Falcon and Turkina) soon?
2019-06-26 00:04:21 +0000 UTC
Asymmetric, and shared arm with the Ice Ferret, like the original concept art. Keep the right arm as it is and the left arm, I prefer the "most faithful".
