Hawk Edits in Progress

With the strong feedback you guys gave on the Phoenix Hawk, I'm digging into editing this sculpt. This is the last mech left to be finalized in our current big project, so I'm eager to be done, but I want this one done right too.

Torso is slightly narrower left to right, torso is narrower front to back including better contrast in angles on the chest plates differentiating the CT from the side torso plates. Made the legs attach a little wider and filled out the pelvis to not look like a diaper. Forearms a little longer, large laser beefed up a bit. Shoulder armor slightly scaled down. JJ intakes opened up more.

Last thing to do is tweak the head, but I might just redesign it and replace its entire model at this point, just to make it more appealing instead of "ok".

Is there a 2nd wave of Mechs planned for a next big project? I would love to see more and there are so many more Mechs to be re-done...

Henning Boessler

Much better. I'm really digging this design over the other one shown :)

Steven Molen

Will the crusader be part of the big project?

Robert Moore

I love it, I can't wait to see this in Black Widow colors!

Robert Moore

The head is a little bland but I do like the large view port. I always thought its kind of funny how small view ports are on mechs consider how large they can be.

I think if you bring the forehead forward a tad and add the supports like Josh suggests it will be spot on.

Richard Jensen

It may not just be the "head", but also the upper center torso and pauldrons. Don't get me wrong -- I like what you have right now, but I agree that something about the head area is a bit off. PXH (and original macross VF-1S) art has always kind of ridden a balance of trying to look "human". As a faster, light-ish 'mech, you might find some inspiration in the proportions of lacrosse or hockey protective gear. This looks more like a football's defensive back (wearing a toboggan on the sidelines, rather than a helmet).

Joe M Emmert

Love the look. Will it be in a more dynamic pose when it becomes a physicl model? This would look really cool running...

Anthony, I think you are absolutely on the right track. Body looks as close to perfect as its gonna get, head is, as you know a tad off. I think it needs a bit more forehead, slightly more rounded cockpit, maybe a few angled supports, coming from the top corners, and angling in and down, 45 degrees, almost how you have the facets, but, instead, support beams, over a rounded cockpit.

It is something new that CGL is getting used to and enjoying, that having digital sculpts done in house gives them a lot of utility for creating art, not just minis.

Anthony Scroggins

Even if we didn't see minis based on these sculpts you did a superb job on them. Every sculpt you showed so far exceeded my expectations. I will still pray that we see them not only in artworks but as minis too. :D

Looking forward! It's high time some cool new minis arrived without explicitely being paid for and done in high quality plastics. 😉

Henning Boessler

I can't say when or what, but obviously I'm showing off a lot of mechs haha.

Anthony Scroggins

Cool rework. I like it. So, does this mean that s lot of new mechs should be in their way soon? 😀
