Summoner Concept Sketch

Ask and you shall receive, sometimes. Here's your new Summoner / Thor.

I've always thought the Thor looked fine, depending on what version you looked at (I like the Mech Commander era art), so I didn't want to change the main shape of this one, feeling like that would betray the rugged workhorse look it has. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" is definitely a big part of my design philosophy on redesigns.

For a base I had a semi recent commissioned piece, though it contained a lot of MWO details that had to go. Arriving at the middle version it still needed some proportion tweaks and form/detail improvement to the legs primarily. And for a curious note on the final approved design, you'll note the new leg pose. It's often easier to "sell" the same details if they're in a more heroic pose. A little art psychology for ya, sometimes I have to play those games. Our designs and sculpts will always look much better when they have their final production poses applied.

Stunning. You've improved upon the Thor and it was already a handsome looking beast, solid, imposing, and different because of the odd arms and the off centre cockpit. <3

I do so love this mech! It’s been my favorite since the animated series.

Glad you like it.

Love it. I love that you kept the angular knee pads, the asymmetrical shoulder joints, and triangle on the chest. This has always been one of my top 5 mechanical, and you nails the reimagining.

However, half of the upcoming Clan mechs in my pipe can jump :D

Anthony Scroggins

One of the few standard jumping invasion mechs.

I think we need big legs because they support the whole mech, big torsos because they hold all the goodies, but arms just have to support a few weapons. I did want to bring the tube arms back after the era of blocky mechwarrior aesthetics, just not as terribly fragile looking as the old stuff.

Anthony Scroggins

I like that it’s fairly angular until you get to the shoulders, then it’s more rounded. I think the spindly upper arms of the Clan heavy Omnimechs is a point of advanced design and engineering: “Our design is so solid, we don’t need bulky arms to support the weapon pods”.

That's awesome. Cash money sir.

Well-bargained and done. :)
