Dire Wolf Concept Sketch

Kerensky did create the Atlas, but he also created the Clans, Here's something big with autocannons, lasers, and long range missiles :)

The Dire Wolf is a mech that has generally looked good in most appearances through the years, so it wasn't too much of a challenge to polish off. Main points of contention were how to handle the cockpit/nose area (I was very intent on not having a chopped nose), the weapon protrusions from the arms, and general scaling.

With Clan mechs there's a much more prevalent need to consider the look of omnipod weapons too. I definitely put consideration into that, though at the same time I don't want to sacrifice good looks, or get trapped into a monotonous consistency. If they look easier for techs to work on, that's a solid start.

I think this will be the most voluminous mech of our new line when it hits the table. A true big boi. What other Clan mechs do you want to see?

This is a fantastic redesign. Took the original and made it better, I am so glad we have a modern look without the big, clunky, stutter-step look MWO gave them. Whenever CGL releases the next run of minis I may go broke.

Andrew McKenna

The solid stance just carries that amount of menace that the Direwolf packs. No huge gun barrels, just lots and LOTS of them on a big, bulky form

Steven Cross

Fire Moth or Myst Lynx. Those are really cool and would look awesome in a more dynamic pose I think.

Henning Boessler

I'm hoping I'll be able to put to use some of that japanese battletech artwork some time.

Anthony Scroggins

I’m happy to keep it at the 100 ton level for a suggestion; the Kodiak.

I would love to see any of the original IIC mechs. Like many of the Project Phoenix mechs, I feel like the art was rushed and, without trying to be insulting, looks like an example in a 'How to Draw Mecha' book from the early 2000s. Also the 3055 and 58 Clan Mechs would be very nice to have art for that doesn't seem a little... silly. The Kingfisher looks like a clown wearing a barrel with way too long shoes, for crying out loud.

Raymond White

The MWO version could have looked a lot cooler with a few proportion changes, even it's concept art looked better. Instead it's just fat and has a prancing walk animation lol. Of course I still used the heck out of it, shredding people.

Anthony Scroggins

Duuuuuude! THIS!!! This looks sooooo much better than the MWO

Joshua Bressel

Nobori Nin/Huntsman. that thing deserves a bit more love given how utterly effective it is in game

Yeah once we grow this new line of minis a bit more the variety and force scale on the table can grow enough to look epic. Right now most players still need to use old sculpts if they want any variety. We've gotta keep observers informed that more is coming, and that every box sold lets CGL know what we want.

Anthony Scroggins

I was playing classic battletech before the new boxes came out and all the 40K players were like "but look at these minis how can I put time into painting this monstrosity" with the new sculpts they say "these look ok. Not bad". We have some of them playing now with the new boxes. Keep up the good work and hopefully we can continue to see new faces on the other side of the table!

How long ago was only a few years? The most recent lineart I've seen of the original clan mechs is still old art and barely updated visually. None the less, my view is that any mech that is popular or a staple in lore, deserves to have a modern look. The problem with the common "this one looked ok already" opinion is that it's often contrasted against other BT mechs. But BT on whole is extremely behind visually, so even our best sculpts are merely average to below average in looks to a passer by. I don't get to decide our direction on redesigns entirely, but I do completely agree that it's a good idea to offer a new modern look for several clan mechs, so that they can grab attention while in play at game stores.

Anthony Scroggins

I can't say what products these go towards, just show off pretty art :)

Anthony Scroggins

I feel a bit mixed about it. I like it, it is recognizable, and updates the original in subtle ways. But the 3050 Clan omnis were redone only a few years ago by Chris Lewis. Are you planning on bouncing around through the earlier canon or do you have an action plan? I've liked a lot of your work on the Classics, so I'm really curious. Could I ply you with beer?

Humm I love it, teasing the next TRO book?

Thank you.

Anthony Scroggins

Oh wow. This is so cool. You really get the impression of how imposing and massive it is while also streamlined and highly sophisticated (compared to its spheroid counterparts).

If given the option I'd want it to look like the MW4 version, that thing is nice.

Anthony Scroggins

A redo of the Conjurer / Hellhound.

squarenuts

Well, you can already check that out for the most part in the Forever Faithful novel cover :) I'll post the tweaked final concept soon though.

Anthony Scroggins

Timber Wolf, we always wanna see more Timber Wolf.

Glad you like it, I've always liked jet nosed mechs. Not the safest for pilots, but they look cool.

Anthony Scroggins

The cool thing about your re-design of the cockpit is that it now looks like one could trace a Timber Wolf -> Dire Wolf design lineage, linking both designs together much more as belonging to the same... Well... Design-culture. :) Great job! And I'd love to see the Mad Dog next. It was always an intriguing design. I like Artillery mechs like the Archer and the Catapult and I always also lilked the Mad Dog. :)

Matt Ceb

Those are some ugly mechs haha. Though not quite main line enough to garner attention yet.

Anthony Scroggins

Crimson Langur and Stooping Hawk

Andrew Bethards

"Do everything" is everyone's ideal outcome lol.

Anthony Scroggins

I'd love to see the Gargoyle and Executioner get some love! And the Summoner... Hell...the whole line of omnis, honestly.

I think I can help with a few of those.

Anthony Scroggins

Mad Cat, Thor, Vulture, Loki.
