Instant Reaction Format Feedback
Added 2022-03-17 15:20:14 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Disappointing result last night but in many ways a great sign of the positive direction of travel I think. Aaaaaaaaaanyway....
The reason for this post is that I want to make sure the instant reaction pods are as good as they can be. When I first decided we should do them, it was based on the idea that capturing a more emotional post-match response would distinguish these from the regular pod. I added the stock rising and falling section so we could identify a player/moment/tactic etc that really excited us and also ones that felt like areas for improvement or missed opportunities. It was really important to me the keep these somewhat structured and distinct from the main pod.
This is just me talking now but... I don't think good analysis is ever just praising what's great about the club and/or a performance (aside from those really special nights when it all comes together perfectly.) I want the pod to encapsulate the entire experience of the match.
Having said that, I also recognize that the format may be getting stale or missing the mark. An improving Arsenal means the nature of the conversation is changing. People recently have had some concerns/complaints with the "stock falling" segment. That sections was never meant to be "here's a player who is bad" or anything like that. It was always a free opportunity to name something about the match that wasn't quite right. And I think it was meant to be a good fit for the more emotional instant reaction pods which are recorded right at full time with no time to rewatch, or process the emotions.
On the internet it can be hard to judge whether feedback is representative of a wider issue or limited to a small segment. And I don't want to make changes without involving everyone.
So this is a long way of saying that I wanted to run a poll seeing if the instant reaction format should be changed somewhat. I will never really be open to a format that doesn't give room to address flaws in a performance because I just don't see how that's quality analysis. But if the stock falling segment is causing enough people issues, we can certainly tweak it!
Ultimately I want to do an instant reaction that gets at the core emotions and issues but also doesn't become repetitive, boring, or just misses the mark.
Thanks as always for making this a fantastic place. Love you!
