Vlahovic Scouting Video

Comments

Vlahovic saga is currently delayed on players wishes to finish season with Fiorentina as it seems. I think that with Lacas contract situation it fits us perfectly. Arsenal should sign immediately give the player rest of season with Fiorentina( it will keep his development flow and him happy, premier league switch mid season is always a risk factor to consider) and let him come to us in the start of Summer in pre season period and properly adjust.

excellent stuff. i'm sold.

200k absolute max, else our wage structure gets all out of place again. These guys (Vlahovic, Saka, Rowe) should be getting 250k/week when they sign their next deals with us when they are 25/26

Great analysis. He reminds me a bit of Kane in his approach to physical hold up play and his shooting. However I really don’t like the idea of him being on 200k+ per week. Nor do I like the idea that he needs convincing to join Arsenal. Of course not every player is going to be begging to join us, but I’d prefer a player who knows he wants to be a part of what Arsenal is building right now

100% agree with your major doubts on his close control and time on the ball. Even in the best bits videos we've seen a lot of sloppy layoffs. All amazing players have huge technical ability and quick handling. Technical ability is the base of everything...! Julio Baptista sprang to mind. First two seasons he scored 20 and 18 goals as a youngster in La Liga for Seville...! Yet, he had the same problem. Raw technical skills, not very agile. Not saying DV is the same player, but Arsenal should be aware of this.

It's not going to be easy to top a video like this one. This kind of transfer link raises hope among fans. Can you imagine how the boys in the dressing room would be feeling hearing this link. Well have to get it done, but we shouldn't go over 200k a week yet, I think

The Clive song must always be used 😄

Arthur scouting video next? 👀

Especially as you could still sell him off for a decent price, even then. He's 21, he won't sit and take money when most Italian teams would do anything to get him, even if he failed in the pl.

yeah i've changed my mind too this guy is a team player and would slot in well into an Arteta team

comradesipho

Wenger did say that we don't buy superstars we make them. It was perhaps a flaw of Wenger's that he didn't do more to convince players to join us that needed convincing. And perhaps it's silly of me wanting to tell Vlahović to F-off becaue he doesn't jump at the opportunity to play for Arsenal. I prefer players like Tomi who just ask where to sign. In my defence, we haven't bought many ready made stars, Bergkamp, Ozil, Sanchez perhaps. I'd barely heard of Henry/Cesc/Freddie/Pires/Viera/RVP when we bought them. I think it's in our DNA to buy young players and nurture them to greatness. Vlahović seems to think he's already great. I get strong Adebayor/Bendtner vibes from him (I hope I'm wrong). I don't want to be anyones stepping stone. Deluge of personal opinion and soft factors there :D

I hear you Clive, and I do love and respect your analysis. When i said love-in, it was because there wasn't much critique of the player, you were clearly focussing on his upside of which there is ample to admire. Perhaps you're right, as a Wengerite I don't want to spend huge when I feel we're shoehorning a player into the team (and into our wet dreams) when his profile isn't quite what we're looking for. If we built the team around him, he could be amazing! But I feel like we have a working template and we should continue along that process by buying a false 9 Firmino/Phil Foden esques player. We are so fluid at the moment, this guy looks clunky to me

As arsenal fans we are not comfortable with big spending and our natural tendency is to pull said player apart without recognising what he could do for us. We have a 32 year old who is low touch and a 30 year old that links for others - imagine the upside of a younger bigger stronger killer finisher - it’s huge and because of that I need to let myself down gently 😀

Love in….so sorry I couldn’t help but like him. As for some of the points like ‘it’s clear we need a false 9 etc. we just need something a lot better than we have. I don’t think this needs much in depth analysis. We are literally talking about one of the best strikers in the world under 23 - it’s more a look at his skill set and how rounded he is. I’ve seen loads of this guy but some of those clips surprised me and that probably came across

I do enjoy these, much appreciated... but... it's more of a love-in than an analysis (sorry!) I do believe that this guy is an elite striker and he’d improve many teams, but I can't help but feeling he'd be an expensive mistake for us. My reasons, some of these are a bit soft factor-ee, but hear me out. 1) Left footed. VERY left footed! We have an abundance of these (Saka/Pepe/Odegaard). I think we need a right footer for balance (Isak/Alverez). 2) It’s clear that we want a #9/false 9 hybrid, someone between a Laca and an Auba. Despite the propaganda, DV is not that. He can do bits. Enough to fill a highlights reel, but the stats prove he is not that guy. He just doesn’t keep the ball and link up play to the standard that we require. You can’t laud stats in one instance and then rationalise them away when they don’t fit the narrative. This guy is the textbook definition of a centre forward, and we’ve tried that with Auba and Eddie and we just can’t square that circle. Laca drops deep, holds-up/links up, vacates space for our killers to go kill (Saka/Martinelli). Those patterns of play, that chemistry/synergy has been the cornerstone of our recent success and we’d be foolish to ignore the evidence before our eyes. A lone striker needs to be a jack-of-all-trades, able to score and create in equal measure. No matter how you squint, Vlahović ain’t that guy. His ability to operate in small spaces and manipulate the ball with close control and technique is simply not there. Julian Alvarez would be my pick on this count, but even Isak looks more convincing in the build-up than Vlahović. 3) Hubris. This guy apparently has it in spades. Which can be a good thing in a striker, but you need a manager who can temper such traits. AW, sure. MA… Guendouzi/Auba/Ozil have taught us otherwise. Allegedly, Vlahović has a huge ego and I’m sure at some point he would fall foul of MA’s non-negotiables. And on that front, what happened to not wanting players that you had to convince to join the sacred institution that is Arsenal?? Our money is clearly good, but this guy is holding out for something better, we are led to believe. Motivation is such a big factor in professional sport. During the bad times, how do you achieve that with a guy that was dubious about the project from the get-go? I don’t think we need that sort of personality Ronaldo-ing up the works and killing the team spirit. At the moment we have a young and selfless team all playing for each other. That’s the sort of Dani Rojas, ‘football is life!’ vibe I want at the club. I like what you said about diamonds in the rough, those players are self-motivated as they have something to prove. I’ve gone on a bit there. Sorry. Vlahović is undoubtedly talented but I feel he’s a square peg for a round hole. We do need a new striker but let’s not break the bank and knee-jerk our way towards a guy that doesn’t fit our current mould

Getting a 50mil+ signing doesn't have to cripple you if it goes wrong............Grealish, Lukaku, Pogba, Maguire, Sancho, Havertz, Pepe, Kepa, Di Maria, Morata, Pulisic, Auba, Ndombele, Keita, Martial, Fred, Torres, Mendy, Jorginho, Wan Bissaka.......

Jake Walker

But Vlahovic offers breakaway pace with the ability to push off and hit a shot early. It makes good sense. Sortof like a super Giroud. I do wonder if there might be another striker still to recruit. Maybe Jonathan David?

I love the analysis. I think the idea with Laca was to have an Aguero type of forward who could cause problems with his low center of gravity and finishing ability.

God damn this guy is sick. EXACTLY what we need. A pivot for the younguns, a lethal finisher, and a total balls-to-the-wall competitor. He would really take us to the next level.

Vlahovic reminds me very much of Ruud van Nistelrooy, mentality, movement, attitude. And as much as we disliked him, I think that is something we can use in our traininground culture. Also feel that mentality and confidence will see him improve as a player. Didn't Wenger say the most important aspect after 23 is the mentality. Henry v Anelka. Based on the clips. Feel his shortcomings are his right footed link up play, the time he needs to control the football. Love the idea of his character playing for us. No nonense, pure winner. Cultural change for us. No more nice guys.

Lovely. About the fees vs quality. Guess when you're a chef cooking dishes, you go for the right ingredients. Sometimes your vegetables are perfect, sometimes okayish. Sometimes it's cheap, sometimes a bit more expensive as you want that special kind meat or beer or herbs that's out of stock at most places. Win some lose some. We're definitely targeting the right ingredients at the moment and sure we may judge on the cost vs taste of the dish, but let's not judge it on cost of the ingredients as they are always subject to many variabel factors we can't control. ;) Tomiyasu and Partey for a combined cost of 70m, fine. Also, I feel a club that is ambitious should at times make a statement in transfers.

😀😀👍🏾 I do remember

Great video. What I really like about him is you're not worried about him playing in the Prem. Can already see him battling with the Dan Burns and Tyrone Mings in the league but also being fast enough to run away from them.

Not sure if it is just my video but Clive's eyes turned into hearts midway through. The wife might get jealous :D

Hey guys love the show , Clive do you remember talking about Vlahovic like maybe a year ago? I had never heard of him before you mentioned him , now look 👀

Glad you liked it! It can be dangerous using clips to evaluate a player but once we left the “best actions” playlist that’s an honest look at him

First time to watch a scouting video and loved it. I like the comp of him being a left-footed Harry Kane. Wasn’t sold on him from the YouTube highlights, but this may have won me over.

You guys (actually fans broadly) need to take a different view when looking at player costs (transfers and player compensation). Need to look at the whole cost base - the summer transfers literally ENABLE a big spend on a single striker. IE five decent purchases for low average cost last year enable us to move with a bit more freedom with a striker transfer. As Clive mentions the salary costs are lower overall too with departures. All we should care about is that a) Arteta is getting the people he wants and b) they are not killing our income statement in the process. I’d imagine net spending overall on players is dramatically improved…. Not sure when annual / periodic financial statements are published but if we as fans care about the cashflow this is the area we should focus if we want to analyse the numbers.

Great stuff. Thanks for your detailed analysis.

Welcome! And welcome to our jinxing powers 😂

New to patreon, First time watching a scouting video! Man! I hope we get this fella, he looks to be the future of that position! Could really make the difference in the second half of the season

I’m up for that. I don’t know him as well but I’m learning fast as you never know

Skeptical, but good stuff tbh. A facilitater that scores goals.

would love a jonathan david scouting video even though the links arent as strong.

Do danilo from palmeraes next maybe. Only left footed midfielder we’ve been linked with so far, makes more sense

Wait a minute..who said he can’t do link up play?? Fiorentina’s entire setup is based on his link up play! Incredible! Throw the kitchen sink at this deal Mikel! I’ve heard we’re offering £150kp/w with bonus’ up to 300k Willian style…let’s do it !

Great analysis, keep it up lads 👍

For me the thing that makes me think "yeah he will be good for us" is that Edu is going BIG for Vlahovic. Edu/Mickel were bang on re Ramsdale, Ninja etc so why should we doubt their push for him?

I’m sold. I started on team Isak, thinking he might be better at linkage. Watched their game the other day, was a little underwhelmed, he went off with an ankle sprain—regardless, doesn’t seem like we’re perusing Isak anyway. As for Vlahovic, reminds me a bit of Kane in play and certainly not as ugly. Lots of link up play to see here and his ability to get his shot off so quickly is what makes him so dangerous in the box. Guys, I’m giggling like a school girl over K-pop. Show him the money, baby!

Let’s break the jinx
