AD-Free Episode 418 - Is The Air Hostess Panicking

On this edition of the Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast Elliot (@yankeegunner) is joined by Clive (@clivepafc), Tim (@stillberto) and Paul (@poznaninmypants) to discuss a poor draw away to Leeds. The pod starts with a discussion of a decent start that gave way to a dreadful performance overall. There’s a debate about the tactics and lineup along with an examination of the midfield. Then the pod turns mostly to discussions of Willian and Pepe and where Arteta goes from here with his man management. All that and more on this edition of the Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast.

Paul just keep defending Willian for some strange reason.

Zulu is my favourite film (it's Zulu the one you refer to) so I really digged this pod

The discussion re Xhaka reminded me of a text I sent during the game: “I will never understand why Xhaka always runs back to join the back line as a cb as opposed to marking up midfielders in the 18. Then he gets caught out when the ball goes to them and can’t close before the shot. Like clockwork” About 3 minutes later he ran straight to the back line, turned around, the ball was already at the 20 and he had to react, throwing himself to the ground in an attempt to block a shot. It makes no sense and kills our defensive depth. Maybe it kills passing lanes by stuffing the box, but it allows long shots and kills our ability to clear the ball as clearances just go straight to an unmarked opposing midfielder. When tracking back on defense, find a midfielder, not rob holding, and engage.

If we zoom out to four days ago, we were all asking for Pepe to be given a chance despite him not being consistent because he was good, and he said we wanted to work hard and prove he was worth starting, all while it felt like Arteta had different rules for him and for Willian and Lacazette. He does start, is one of the better (or less bad) players in the team and gets sent off because he reacts passionately to some provocation, maybe btw because he is under way more pressure than is fair, and he gets thrown under the bus publicly by his manager. He was stupid, but he doesn't deserve that.

A player in bad form getting sent off should not be the end of his career at the club lmao not sure how Arteta can justify outcasting another player, he’ll play Europa surely and with AMN ESR and Balogun on the pitch I expect him to play well

The issue is he’s been a lot more diplomatic for players who have also let us down ie Kola at Spurs and not said anything about it

I really didn't have a problem with the "he let the team down" comment. It's true, and he didn't go on and on about it.
