If ever in Mystic, CT one of my favorite American pubs is the Harp & Hound. Recommend all the food and drink in Mystic, but that is the only pub.

Alright lads, right out the gate - I live next to Tewkesbury and have grown up going to the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival most years. Every year they re-enact the Battle of Tewkesbury - in which the House of Lancaster lost its male line with the death of Edward of Lancaster, at the age of 17. Last year I got to see the final duel between the reenactors who played Edward, Prince of Wales, and King Edward IV (Which didn't actually happen, but outside of cannonshot, people love to see a duel) both of whom I saw begin their careers as their respective figures nearly twenty years ago. Basically to say: I don't think we do sports reenactments, we just deck each other with forged steel for an hour and a half, in front of an audience of families.

A pub feels like it should be akin to a cafe, in the sense that you should feel comfortable enough to buy one pint and sit in there for hours doing as much or as little as you like. It’s a place for having plans, making future plans and having no plans at all. A public house open to all without reservations or restrictions. Long live the pub!

My main factors that make a pub are: • Carpet • tiles • Beer mats, not napkins • Low stools • No loud music (apart from live music nights) a bar might play quiet music during the day but come a certain time, that volume is getting cranked up. Not a pub! • Stout Bar staples: A large food menu Extensive Cocktail menu Loud music Dimmed lighting
