What I will say on coughing/sneezing in public transport without having a mask or tissues ready, is that a fair few people have mild allergies they’ve probably never diagnosed. If you’re sitting next to someone covered in dog or cat hair, or using a perfume with a particular ingredient, it can set you off out of nowhere with everyone else thinking you’re ill when you’re not.
