Holy shit I thought I was alone in thinking people should have to get proper licenses to have pets and kids. Love hearing some echo chamber reinforcement! Obvious issues in how to reinforce that without being evil but hey, leave that to the grown ups to work out

2024-08-14 11:41:46 +0000 UTCThere's an excellent John Oliver Last Week Tonight segment on the death penalty about how there's literally no good argument for it and some of it is absolutely astounding. For instance: The drugs needed for lethal injection are illegal in the US so they have to go through a loophole and, in some instances, prisoners are asked to source their own! Also, doctors can't administer them because of the hypocratic oath so guards do it and often botch it. Also the moral aspect, the financial reasons (costs ten times more than life in prison), prisoners who were killed then found innocent later, the estimate that 4% of all current inmates are actually innocent, etc. It's incredibly fascinating.
