Anon The Mouse King posts

Bad News, I'm Afraid.

As much as I hate doing so, I see little choice but to suspend operations on the Mouse King project for the time being. Recent life changes have dramatically reduced the amount of time I have available to spend on side projects like this and the amount of work I've been able to get done over the past month just isn't enough to justify asking people to pay for it. Initially I thought things would ramp up more gradually and so I could afford a 6-12 month runway dedicated to existing stories, bu...

Alright, it's later than I was supposed to get this out but apparently I wasn't quite as done with spending time at the doctor's office (and in transit...) as I thought a week ago. Moving forward should be a lot clearer, though, and I really needed to finally take the time to write this up.

First order of business is a sitrep on where things stand. At the moment, I have three stories that are in active p...

Return from Hiatus

So, it's really late right now and I'm pretty tired, but I didn't want to get past the start of this month without giving all you wonderful patrons an update on where things stand for me. As such, I'm gonna give you a quick overview tonight and then, once I get a few things processed, I'll take the time to write up a full report on where things stand and what everything will look like moving forward.

At the moment, the basics are as follows.

I have started writing again and am att...

Unpleasant Update

No time at the moment to dick around, so I'll get straight to it. A recent health crisis within my family (nothing imminently life-threatening, thankfully) has dramatically altered my day-to-day situation. For the short to medium term I am going to be a primary caregiver, a role which will leave me with far less time for side projects like this. As such, I doubt I will be able to get much writing done in the next couple of weeks. While I hope I can find at least a little time, I won't be near...

Poll on whether to continue patron-exclusive weekly shorts

Alright everybody, this isn't going to be a pure binary and binding Y/N poll. I'm going to look at the returns for all three answers, add in any direct feedback from higher tier patrons, and then come to a final decision on whether to continue a regular drip of super-short stories on a weekly, biweekly, etc basis.

For those who missed the introductory post a few weeks ago, the basic premise is this. I think there will be several benefits in writing and releasing a steady stream of reall...

Second patron exclusive short in trial

Okay, last week's short was a sample of the 'micro-story' that is probably my main target with these weekly releases, this is gonna be an example on the other end. It's the smallest possible kernel of a bigger idea that I had at one point started writing out but lost the file for and have never gone back to restart. The end result of this sits right around 2.5K, so it'll actually cover two weeks of doing these (to preserve progress on my main projects when these get out of hand)

Weekly update, oh, let's call it #040

Don't have a ton of time tonight for a full recap of the week (sorry, I really should get back into the habit of doing more detailed writeups. I'm gonna work on that.), so this'll be short. Basically, I was out of contact for most of the week but still had a bit of time on my hands so I got a not-quite average week of writing done. Probably 8-9K. The 40K target for this month is pretty safe by now, and I'll get back to you with a full monthly review post next weekend. That one will probably b...

First Patron exclusive super-short.

Right, so, as I already said this story is gonna be quite brief. 5, maybe 6 paragraphs and 800 words.

The short synopsis is as follows: A young girl gets dragged to a feminist protest in a nation that has suddenly and abruptly legislated intense misogyny, they get arrested at that protest, then the girl in question is 'processed' into a re-education camp.

Just a fun little dystopian story that leaves most of the action up to one's imagination. A lot of these will, as writing...

Weekly Update and Big Announcement

Okay, we're gonna breeze through the normal weekend bit in a lightning round today so that I can get to the aformentioned announcement. The basics are pretty standard. It was a roughly normal week with around 10K of overall work getting done, The overall number for march is now somewhere between 20K and 25K, I'm still confident I can get to 40K, I'm still shooting for 50K but it'll still be a tough task. The next major release on the schedule is Gold Star 2 (which I really, really like so far...

Weekly Update #0??

Okay, don't have a ton of time so I'm gonna run through this fairly quick.

To this point in March I've gotten between 13K and 14K words written and/or revised. That includes the tail end of Artemis, a bunch of work on Gold Star pt. 2, and a bit of fresh writing on something else.

Initially I had a bit of a hard time with Gold Star, but starting Friday I really got into a groove that I've been riding since. I don't think that one's to halfway just yet, but I've been making pretty g...

Artemis Release

Honestly, I could probably spend another month polishing up this story and not be entirely happy with it, but at some point I have to just go ahead and release it. So, here's your link. Hopefully you all like it.

February '24 Update

So, first off, I really, really, really wanted to have Artemis formally done and released by the end of February but it stretched just the tiniest bit too long. Instead, it will be releasing to patrons either tonight or tomorrow. At this point, the entire chunk that's been giving me so much trouble the past few months is completely written and completely rewritten, but there's still 12-15 hundred words that still need proofing. That's probably more than I can get through by the end of the nig...

Quick midweek update

Sorry I missed another weekend, but I should be back to normal operations from here on out. Jury duty is now over and done with and I don't have any major commitments for the rest of the month outside of the normal day to day.

Total production for the month is almost certainly going to be disappointing as expected, but GSG 1 is out and I'm making decent production on Artemis. Well more than 30K words are finalized with not that much more to go. I'm hoping I can get the finishing touches...

Release - Gold Star Gratitude Chap One

Terribly sorry for missing a weekend report, I was mostly out of contact and almost always busy the last week. But, in the time I was able to sneak away, I got the finishing touches down on a new release for you all. Hopefully that makes up for it.

This story I've teased a bit of already, but in short it features an inexperienced and less than confident high school senior who intervenes to prevent a stranger from being taken advantage of at a party and then, a little while later, gets a...

January '24 Update

Just a heads up, this report is probably gonna feature a fair bit of good news/bad news approach, so brace yourselves. Including in the recent progress chunk. On the positive side of things, I successfully passed the 50K quota for January, which makes me pretty confident going forward. There were periods of really fast manic progress and some periods that really didn't go well, but on the whole if I can hit 50 once I should be able to do so regularly. The downside, however, is that in order t...

Mid-Week Mini-Update

Apologies on missing the regular check in over the weekend, all, things have gotten a little hectic here as of late. So, super short check in now.

Last week had a bit going on, so I was held to around 8K in total production. Then I got around 2K each of Monday and Tuesday which, assuming I remember my math correctly, puts me at or around 40K on the month leaving just 10K to go and a week to work with. That should be very doable.

The bulk of that work was on Artemis which I am abou...

The Watchtower Download Link

Included here all patrons can find the download link for the first 'Sack of Kharishan' short. As I just laid out it (among others) in some detail not long ago, I don't feel a particular need to reiterate the synopsis here. Check the bigger post from a week or so back if you want to know more before reading it.

Weekly Report #034

So, I spent the vast majority of last week sick (to varying degrees at different points). This has led to a number of discoveries. Mostly, however, there are two that are relevant. The first, which is positive, is that I can apparently make shockingly strong progress on writing while I am feverish (at least as long as I take the path of least resistance and don't try to force myself to focus on a specific project.) The second, which is not so positive, is that the final stage of writing (proo...

Sack of Kharishan - Proposed Shorts

Okay, as described in the weekly update I just finished, I'm going to use this post to lay out for all patrons some/all (unless I forget any) of the various scenes which I intend to eventually write out as one vignette/short or another under the 'Sack of Kharishan' umbrella. For the most part, their chronology doesn't really matter and they could thus be written and released in a any order with a few exceptions (some of the more climactic ones I'd rather not do immediately.)

So far ther...

Weekly Report #033

Come one, come all, to the latest weekly report. I am in quite good spirts at the moment as the last week has been shockingly productive despite the last family obligations of the 23-24 holiday season. In total, I got nearly all of the first sack short completed and quite the head start on a new project for which inspiration struck as I hit a minor snag with 'Sack'.

Basically, Monday through Wednesday I spent powering through the proofing stage for Sack 1. Monday went spectacularly, the...

Annual Report - Year One

Right. So, this is gonna be a bit of a long one. Apologies in advance. Gotta do the standard review/preview of last/next months, but I'm also gonna do a macro version for years one and two as well. So, ya know, that's gonna take a bit. But, hey, I'll use headers so you can only read any individual sections if you want. Anyhow, here goes...

Locker Room Lessons Release

Alrighty, everyone, Pixeldrain is back up and running as of tonight so I don't have to try and find a new download site. Yayness.

The new story is definitely on the more, ahem, aggressive side of NCR as opposed to my more usual dubcon sort of stuff. It features the aftermath of a powerhouse high school (American) football team's final game of the season in which several members of the team turn on a recent female recruit who they blame for prematurely ending their season after a disappo...

Story Delivery Emails are out.

For whatever reason, I couldn't access the site I've been using for downloads so instead I sent a copy of the new story direct to every active patron's email. Please let me know if any of you didn't get yours. Hopefully the site is just down for maintenance or something and I won't have to try and find another new one.

Anyhow, I'll be back tomorrow morning to put up a quick weekly update and (hopefully) a download link to the story.

And I'm running out of time, so if anyone ...

Weekly Report #032

Last week went pretty well overall. I was able to write every day monday through saturday and as I result I was able to shave a pretty hefty chunk off of the to do list. With how much I got done (6.5K) and how much is left (a bit under 4K of initial draft) I anticipate the locker room story going out sometime Thursday-Friday, possibly Wednesday evening if I have some really productive sessions but today has been a bit of a disaster which set me back a touch.

On top of that I got 2K of w...

Weekly Report #031

Good news, all, the first week and change of December has gone quite well on the whole and I'm getting near to at least one (and possibly multiple) releases. Between writing delays and bouncing around WAY too many projects at once, it's been far too long. But that should be about to change.

In the first stray days of December, I got about 3-4K words written, then last week I powered through 7-8K more before a busy weekend. That 11K or so is primarily split between what I think will be t...

Monthly Report -- November

So, this is kinda more of a 'report part one' since November and December are being merged, so I won't go into quite as much detail on upcoming plans and all as I usually would. Suffice to say, November went more or less as I anticipated.

Taking the first week or so off to recharge, plenty of expected family/friend commitments around Thanksgiving, and some less expected tech issues with my main computer kept me to something like 20K words on the month. Somne of that was scattered to a h...

Weekly Report #030

Okay, I am really, really bad at doing reports on Sunday. The mornings tend to be way too busy, and by evening I've got a hundred other things on my mind. Maybe I can try Saturday evenings instead? Or would Monday morning be better? Gonna have to mull that over.

Anyway, I'd grade last week as 'mediocre' on the whole. I lost a day or two to family matters (that's gonna be a theme for awhile. Mostly the next two weeks and then the tail end of December, I think. Hence why November and Dece...

Weekly Report #029

Okay, just a quick little update today (with the usual apology for being late...). Last week was a bit stop-and-start as I forced myself back into the routine of writing every day or nearly so, but by the end of the week I was approaching normal levels of productivity. On the whole, it wound up as something like 6-7K words written, I think. Next weekend I should be able to do a more comprehensive breakdown of how November's gone to date.

In terms of projects, I spent most of the week cy...

Major Update pt.2 -- Works in Progress

Right, so this post is going to serve as a reminder of/introduction to every story I currently have at any stage of production, an assessment of how far along they are, and a rough idea of where they rank in my priority list. The latter bit could well change depending on any feedback I get (via comment, direct message, or email) and I may or may not post a formal poll for Sympathizers and Radicals to formalize that in the coming days once I get back in the swing of things after taking a week ...

Major Update

Okay, I've got a whole lot I want to brief everyone on, and I'm not entirely sure the best way to go about it all so this might be a bit scatterbrained.

To start with, let's do an abbreviated version of October's monthly report since I didn't do a normal one. First three weeks went pretty great. I was making good progress and nearly keeping pace with the target quota despite overwhelmingly focusing on revisions which take a lot longer. Then week four started a bit choppy and by the end ...
