Dan mentions writing in a Jamaican accent - Sam Selvon's The Lonely Londoners is written almost entirely in patois, and was an effort to explore the difficulties of being a migrant to London from the Empire's reaches. The book was written in 1956, and Selvon was born in Trinidad; it's pretty good, if hard to adjust to.
