I made a precision gearbox - with NO GEARS

This was one heck of a project, but I made it in the end. A (nearly) zero-backlash 4th axis for my home made milling machine.

Almost 300 AUD 😅

How much of that was spent shipping to Box of Shame, Kentucky, USA?

Thanks man! I spent probably too much time figuring out the graphics, but I figured it was the best/only way to get the concepts across. Took me ages to wrap my head around the mechanisms when I first started looking into it. Will have to look into the torsional stiffness!

That's pretty much how all of the PCBWay ads go, if I ever had a reason to use them they would certainly be the first company I would consider.

Very good video ! Appreciate the thorough editing and graphics. Made me smile and laugh the whole way ! Measuring backlash is always difficult, also called virtual play. Best to measure it as a torsional stiffness (which is probably non-linear). But applying the torque with an arm also means applying a force on the rotor ... best way to measure the stiffness is with two (servo) motors and a torque cell ... but yeah, not easy or cheap.

Oh, I'll also add that I had a services budget of $800USD, but I paid an extra ~250usd for shipping, and ~350aud for customs duties

So glad to hear this for a whole bunch of reasons. I was late to send off the order, so I didn't have the chance to really use them on the project like I had planned. Also genuinely impressed with what I got from them. Obviously you're free to take this with a grain of salt, as they are paying me pretty well, but I've got no reservations about recommending them. Thinking about using them for potential future merch for the channel (I'd love for it to be something useful!)

Very good execution of Incorporating PCBWay. Such a relevant sponsor didn’t intrude on the story and kept my simple mind engaged.
