It was back to the drawing board

I got right to the end of that first iteration of the cycloidal drive, only to realise it had some pretty critical design flaws, and it's form factor wasn't going to be very useful. Luckily things are pretty quiet at work at the moment, so I took the last week of and completely redesigned and (almost completely) manufactured version 2.0!

It's now a combined spindle and gearbox, with some hefty 40x80mm tapered roller bearings keeping everything nice and constrained.

As well as an improved design, the machining went a whole lot smoother this time; practice makes perfect! Oh and my new bandsaw arrived on Monday so processing the bigger stock was a whoooole lot quicker (check out those teeth!)

Finally got the chance to give my internal lapping tool a go, and it works a treat! The fit between the cycloidal disks and the housing is also way better this time around.

All that's left is to add some mounting holes to the spindle nose, turn the new crankshaft (I went with a slightly less eccentric cycloid this time) and knock out the cover plate!
