State of the Workshop, February 2024 - Now in 4K!

Hey guys, here's where we're at: I got a haircut, we've got a new lathe, we're making progress on the tripteron and the cycloidal drive, the workshop is DOUBLING in size, and I'm dipping my toes into video sponsorship for upcoming videos (They'll be ad free here!). Would love to hear your thoughts on everything in the doobely doo. Cheers!

Love seeing your shop grow. And don't feel bad about hoeing your channel around the internet. its a great way to get more money for more shop toys!

Those other machining channels are also either well established or are side gigs only. Example: Blondihacks. Quinn doesn't do sponsors, but she has a lot of revenue from Patreon and Youtube. She also gets equipment/material donated to her frequently. Generally, the quality Maker channels have sponsorships. Almost every major 3D printing channel, Xyla Foxlin, Electroboom, HTME, Jeremy Fielding, etc.

Thanks for the positivity guys, it means a lot to know that you're all behind me. I think my reservations around it a based in the fact that a lot of my content so far has been very much about what it's possible to achieve with a bit of interest and determination, and I was a bit worried that paid segments might be a bit contradictory of that, as well as the fact that a lot of other channels in this space tend to avoid sponsorship. There's a deeply philosophical aspect to it all, and I'll be doing my best to only take on deals that I think are good for the channel and the audience in the long run. Appreciate all the support from you guys, you're a bunch of legends 👌

Yeah, I'll be staying away from those, and raid shadow legends 😬

I couldn't resist 😅

A Pierson fixture plate is on my wishlist for sure!

Time is money and nothing comes for free. People will pay for that which has value to them. Find those key valuable components and deliver the entertainment/educational content and sponsorship as well as having Patreon won’t be a problem. My first side gig consulting netted me 4 times my wage. I only got paid that because the client found relevant value in what I delivered every month. So basically what Brandon said and he has an awesome channel. Outsourcing is fine as well. But don’t be afraid to make random stuff for a project a feature episode. I enjoy seeing variations with each maker even if the final product is similar to others I’ve seen made.

Don't see any issues with sponsorship as well as running a patreon - another one of my favourite YouTubers does the same (Internet Shaquille). Happy to see your excellent work recognised.

Since you are planning to get into complex fixturing, I highly recommend the channels, Titans of CNC, and, Pierson Workholding.

8:37 absolutely terrified me

The chaos of moving that lathe in place killed ma haha Sponsorships aren't selling out if they keep you making the videos we are all here for. And with your brand of humor I guarantee people will actually look forward to watching them! I know I will

Go for the sponsors! What ever makes your life easier to make interesting content. As long as you stay away from gambling and boos sponsors I don't mind the distraction. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Bert

Accepting sponsorship deals isn't selling out. We and all your subscribers are here because we like your content and support you. If accepting sponsorship deals means you can build the channel, continue entertaining and making quality content, then I say, go for it!
