Can Shinobi Training Make You Better at Sekiro?

A couple of weeks we got to play the game, but beforehand Powers trained up in the ancient ways of the Shinobi. (He got a wooden sword to help.) After hours of gruelling training, where he was complimented on his parrying, we started the game to see what difference it would make.
