Necroepilogos, armatus - 8.8

Pira's been holding out on her Commander, keeping deep secrets; what was The Fortress, Pira? What did you try to build, out there in the ashes?

Last chapter of the arc, I think! I always write these posts just before I start drafting, so right now I'm not 100% certain, but I am prrrrretty sure this is it, and with the next chapter we will be onto arc 9. (Okay, actually, no! Turned out that Pira had a hell of a lot more to say than I expected, so arc 8 is going to one additional chapter, 8.9, next chapter!)

Time for Elpida to keep her word to the rest of her comrades. But! First! I know not every patron frequents the discord channel or checks other parts of the site, so I wish to share with you this incredible artwork of Pheiri, drawn by sporktown heroine over on the discord server. There's another reader currently working on a gigantic virtual lego model of him, but that's not quite ready yet.

In the meantime, onward we go, back to the ruins of the endless corpse-city.

Glad you enjoyed this one, thank you! Yes, this whole conversation was very intense and charged, Pira's carrying a lot of weight. And a lore dump, haha, yes! I always try to make sure that 'lore' or exposition is weaved into the story as part of characterisation and dialogue, so I'm glad this part was enjoyable.

That is a spicy conversation. I like it. So much lore, too.

Yeah! Serin actually mentioned this, back in the chapter where she provided Elpida's group with a bunch of severed heads. She implied that those who decide to try surviving off the omnipresent nano-mould very rapidly run into energy problems with maintaining higher-order functions and the like. The implication of changing into slow grazers is intentional! But, such creatures would be unlikely to survive against other predators unless they're capable of defending themselves.

Something I've been wondering about: Is there anyone that had tried living off of just that nano-mould that grows everywhere. I know it's not very nutritional for them, but what if there are those that changed to become like slugs or something and just spend ever hour of there day slowly moving about and feeding on the nano-mould... ever since that stuff was first mentioned, I imagined that there would be at least a few people that would break and end up going down that kind of path. Or hell, even changing so they can eat bricks or something considering that everything is made of nanos now. Just a weird thought...
