A Week of Sketchup

Just a little update - with some show-and-tell!

The past week has mostly been me spending time in SketchUp grabbing free 3D models (and the occasional paid one) and dropping them into my files to make my environment more lived in.

What you're seeing:

The other end of Judy and Nick's bedroom! It needed some thickening out and thought, so I spent time filling out the corner and developing their bathroom a bit. This is where the chapter will start. 

Then a new exterior of Owen's apartment - I'm really happy with how this one looks, it feels Zootopian! I'm tossing out those bench chairs so thought it would be fun to have Owen put them out with a 'free' sign =D This is where Judy and Nick will end up after their monorail/tram trip. 

Then I've updated Owen's bedroom a bit. Changed things up so it's not all the same. Disheveled the bed and made it look like a fun-time was had - as we'll be in here at the very end of the chapter - and it'll be after all the sexy times. I've also given Owen a tablet, and a messier desk - he's been busy!

Following that we've got some of Owen's living room and kitchen. I've not changed much here, but moved things around a bit and thrown a few more bits in here and there. Given it a ceiling too!

Then I decided it would be a good idea to leave a few doors open this time, and draw in a bathroom - I still need to go in and make a 'small' persons section to it, but figure that can wait, as we'll not be in here this chapter. I do want to one day draw the three of them in that shower tho. I kinda want to figure out a 'dust bath' option too. Maybe some kind of dust/sand/bucket?! Things to think on...

Finally, I've got a few monorail/tram scenes; I'm grabbing a train to use as a reference and then will draw the correct movie version when we get there. The interiors can be the same as the one I purchased a while ago for the TrashTikko illustration.

There's a part of me that wants to go and update the exterior of Owen's apartment, but that's so much work I'm thinking of just keeping the camera with Judy and Nick as they walk around so I don't need to 3D up an epic. 

OH, and I should clarify - I don't pay attention to the colors of things or little errors here and there - these 3d environments are just for me to sketch over. This way I can make their spaces feel lived in and alive! 

Alongside this, I've just been filling up a folder with reference art for the chapter! Finding poses I like, art I think is hot, and filling it to the brim. Next week - I'll start laying out the first three or 4 pages or how many pages that first scene is, and I'll add all those references into the Photoshop files so they're all ready for arting. Fingers crossed I'll have some 'roughs' to share next week!

I know this is a slow-no-art kinda week - but it's all important for my process, and helps me so much down the line. These environments help speed things along SO much, and the references keep me from getting 'stuck', while also giving me a way to 'plan out' a page.
