Ties That Bind - Page 10 Finished!

One big happy Sunday to you all, friends!

Page ten, hot off the press. I'm hoping it all catches you just at the right moment - this one is fun in so many ways. We're finally at the turn! With this page in hand, we're officially rolling on things. Owen unchained, Nick... chained, and our Judy happily squished in the middle of it all.

There's still more to the chapter; stuff I can't wait to get into - but it's going to have to wait while I disappear for two weeks. I'm hoping to come back with a few spot illustrations or a fun charactersheet for our trio - anything I can get away with, while the family run's amuck. Hoping to get into the layout for the next few pages when I get back and we can start sealing the deal on the chapter. 

I had a lot to redraw on this page - honestly, I thought it would be an easy page, so I tried not to shy away from pushing myself on the details - in the end, it made it into a 'hard, but rewarding page'. I wasn't happy with Owen's 'war face', I wasn't happy with the Judy body position atop of Owen, and rather than just calling these things good enough I really tried to spend the time and hammer it out to be stronger. It took more hours, but in the end I'm feeling really positive about it. There's a whole lot I like about this page, from expressions to loaded conversation. But my favorite part might just be my focus on the closeup; showing off the tie, and then pressing it down firmer, while telling Nick he no longer gets to have 'em ' I think there's something delicious about that.

I tried a slightly different way of rendering the come too. Or at least I was looking at a fresher reference - Meesh for example uses quite thick whites for his. I wanted it to feel like a real MESS, really make the come 'pop', so I tried to channel some of that 'thicker whiter gloop'. I still think I have a lot to learn about drawing come; I always end up down a rabbit hole of rendering, and after a while can't tell if what I'm doing looks good or not. I think the end effect looks shiny and interesting, but does it look like come? I don't know. Maybe something to continue experimenting with. 

Single panels will drop maybe Tuesday/Wednesday? Then I'll be AFK for a while!
