That was funny on so many levels: the ED lyrics Okarun sings are directed at Momo, while he does basketball defensive moves on Jiji. Jiji misinterprets this as some sort of Slam Dunk song game and sings the OP (also a love song lol) while doing the same moves xD, but it fits because he seems to have feelings for Momo as well? These songs are classic for the Japanese audience (I believe even most non-anime watchers in Japan would know them). Slam Dunk was to basketball in Japan back in the day what Haikyuu!! was to Volleyball. Directly influenced the popularity of the sport within the nation.

It's a 90s anime so I don't know how much demand is there for a reaction to it, but I would be glad to watch it.

2024-12-20 18:02:07 +0000 UTCThe song Okarun and Jiji started singing was the opening and ending song for Slam Dunk. Slam Dunk is the most popular sports manga/anime from the 90s. I would say, Slam Dunk is kind of like the Dragonball Z of sports anime. It’s about basketball and it skyrocketed the popularity of the sport in Japan in the 90s. I actually think you guys would love SlamDunk. From what I remember there is also a love triangle in slamdunk with two guys and a girl, so that’s probably why they referenced the songs this episode. Okarun was singing the ending song, and Jiji sang the opening song. I think it also shows these two love the same things and will be great friends.

The cliffhanger was brutal but it'll keep me hyped until the next season! I think it could be a top 3 anime for me if it continues the way it's been going into the next season.

Btw I looked up what the songs Okarun & Jiji were singing at the beginning were (they sounded like an OP but I couldn’t place it) and turns out they’re the OP & ED of Slam Dunk.
