Maybe you picked up on this- but Maomao suspected that there was more to the pregnancy story that Gaoshun brought to her- meaning that “pregnant” was just a metaphor/stand in for what the girl was actually sneaking out to do, and Maomao remarks herself that the cousins of the envoy could pull off the mirror trick from the story

2026-02-06 11:37:38 +0000 UTCI don’t think Gaoshun is a eunuch- maybe the translation varies, but back when we got the official reveal that Jinshi was taking something to suppress his hormones, Gaoshun told him that if he took it long enough he would eventually actually become sterile- and Jinshi responded with something like “wouldn’t it be the same for you,” to which Gaoshun responded with something implying that it wouldn’t matter to him because he already has grandchildren

2026-02-06 11:35:21 +0000 UTCI can think of why Maomao might be suspected as being the one to poison the concubine who died- she’s in Gyokuyou’s service, and known to be knowledgeable about poisons, so it might be feasible to think that Maomao would have been trusted by her to take revenge on Gyokuyou’s behalf (since that concubine is the one believed to have poisoned Gyokuyou back when she was pregnant- though we know Maomao didn’t even know about this until now, but it’s plausible that people could think that she was confided in and loyal enough to her to do it)
