Yeah, after watching the quality of The Wire I was ASTONISHED that David Simon was not a household name in the manner of David E Kelly or Sorkin, etc. One hit wonder, unfortunately.

2021-02-19 18:26:46 +0000 UTCAlso, David Simon did a series with James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhall in the last 5 years called The Deuce. It's a show about the formation of the porn industry. I personally don't like James Franco in dramatic roles and find the show in general to be a bit of a step down for Simon but Gylenhall is fantastic in it. I think Simon never had another hit because his stuff is so high-brow and doesn't play to the audiences. The difference with The Wire was that it had the hook of a traditional cop and gang dynamic that audiences always love.

2021-02-19 18:15:25 +0000 UTCJust wanted to put in a good word for Treme. The Wire tries to capture the essence of Baltimore. Treme attempts the same with New Orleans with the backdrop of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and a constant smattering of New Orleans jazz music thrown in. I personally think it's the most forgotten gem of a series in television history and consider it to be very close to as good as The Wire.
